@@montagemanman1389 not exactly. Bend Studios got told no to DG2 because their pitch to Sony wasn't good enough. Bend can still work on whatever they want as long as their pitch justifies the cost. As someone who was anxiously anticipating the Nintendo Switch port of these games before ever playing them I can wholeheartedly recommend buying this game at launch price of $39.99 US and regional equivalents. It not only met but EXCEEEDED my expectations graphically and from a performance standpoint. It plays great in both docked and handheld great. I haven't noticed a single dip in frame rate through all my time playing. I honestly thought the game was running at 60fps until I saw a review with frames showing it locked at 30 essentially. I ended up buying this game twice digitally. Once for my old/main Switch that almost always stays docked and one copy for my Switch Lite which I like to take around and play offline when I don't have connection to internet. I will very likely buy a physical version of this as well I like it so much. If you played the originals you may be in for a nostalgia overload. The courses all come back like old friends with big makeovers while leaving everything in tact. The updated mechanics and visuals just bring everything up to 11 and give the game a huge face lift. The soundtrack has the best tracks of the original (Superman is there aka So here I am doing everything I can) along with a few extra tracks and skaters. I am amazed they fit this game running at this level of visual fidelity, solid performance from day 1, and extra skaters with so much content onto such a small amount of space (under 10GB if I'm correct it's around 8GB). I am so hyped for these games and as I have not played the other versions any differences don't matter to me. The only times I noticed some graphical downgrades was on some shadows that I zipped by or when loading board or clothing graphics for a split second. Loading is impressively fast. By the time you are ready to hit A to get the game on with it's already loaded. The tutorial with voice over from Tony Hawk himself in the beginning of the game is a quick refresher on the mechanics new and old and it's a nice treat for a lifelong skater and fan of the franchise to hear and see Tony Hawk himself represented in his character model. I also like the new skater additions in addition to the create a skater where you can customize your look fairly well and also your stats. When playing online the playing field is even where everyone has the same maxed out stats so it's not unfair in that regard its all skill. I love they have splitscreen multiplayer as well though I don't know if I will use it. Vicarious Visions went above and beyond to fully deliver on this Nintendo Switch port. The graphics, to my eyes, are perfect. If this game was in a vaccuum where no other versions existed for comparison I would give it an 11/10 for being able to run, look, and sound so great. Since there are other versions I still give it an absolute 10/10 for the sheer joy of playing and fresh coat of paint albeit with small compromises that don't ultimately affect my experience of the game to a substantial degree. Ok can you tell I love these games? Very glad I preordered and I have been playing through on both my Switch and Switch Lite almost non stop. It's brought back so many memories of playing the games when I was younger and also made me want to jump back on my skateboard and take a ride through my old neighborhood with all my friends. Simpler times those days were and this game is comfort food for those who remember playing the games and just an all around fantastic experience for new comers to the series. Get them! Also if you're unsure you can always wait for a sale. I imagine these will eventually get into a regular sale rotation but at $40 on a triple A production like this it's already very well priced. PS: I hope they do remakes of Tony Hawk's Underground aka THUG in this style. After the originals those were my favorite games. THUG 1 + 2 remakes would be the next dream on my Tony Hawk's remake list. Either that or an all new game in this style with the open world/sandbox features of THUG.
Why did you buy it twice? You could have made the switch lite the main console and your home system would have been the one to require the connection to sign in.

as a skater i should be really into this, but as of writing this comment I am all consumed by mario golf atm. But i will definitely get this game at somepoint for sure. glad to here it is a good port that makes me happy
What blew my mind was that my muscle memory kicked in from playing on the N64 as a kid in the 90s, I instantly knew the controls from the moment I started the game! Now that's impressive!
This game has been a hard transition for me since I’ve been playing skater xl for almost a year. That said, it’s sooooo fun relearning everything and just jamming out
Definitely worth it on the switch. Awesome being able to play on the subway or streetcar or wherever you are. Plus they are great remakes with good upgrades than the original versions. 💯 recommend!
You sure you can play THPS1+2 on the go anywhere everywhere with the switch? Last I checked it required a constant Internet connection to be playable except for Steam Deck.
The sound track is amazing! As a 42 yr old man I find myself buying every remastered game that comes along on the switch. These games have stolen 100's of hours of my life And I don't regret it 😂 the online leaderboard is awesome!!!
As a newly turned 42 year old to say I agree with you would be an understatement! 😅 Not to mention Having these retro games on the go 🛹 makes it even better.
Crap.. was looking forward to picking up the physical? Is there any portion of the game playable without the download? Perhaps it’s just the multiplayer part (like with Doom) ?
That one has always been my favorite. But more people like 1 and 2 and they're way more popular. I like all of them anyways, even the "bad" ones. Well, the Neversoft developed ones, none of that Ride and Shred crap.
The part that made the Switch port the best port for me was the fact that the 30fps is the same Frame Rate that the Playstation original ran at, literally EVERYTHING muscle memory carried over easy
I got this on ps5 and on the switch and got dam is this game glorious on the switch I think I may prefer it compared to my ps4 copy because of its ability to go protable and still maintain standards
I know this is a year after launch, and I have had this on Xbox Series S since then, but I just got a snazzy new Switch OLED recently. I mainly got it for the exclusive Nintendo IPs, the Marios, the Mario Karts, Smash, Splatoons, Switch Sports, etc. but this may be one of the few games I re-buy on a different console. Full-fledged 3D Tony Hawk on a portable console has been a dream of mine since forever. I know there were some on DS and PSP, but I never had those, as my portable console topped out at a GBA SP until I got the Switch. There were some really good isometric view Tony Hawk games on Game Boy Color and GBA, notably also developed by Vicarious Visions, so it's no surprise they've delivered such a great port here. I think for some time they were mainly knows as the studio that adapts mainline Tony Hawk games to Game Boy, (they did a very good similar port of Jet Set Radio on GBA too) So now, 20 some years later I have my dream of being able to play a full-fat Tony Hawk's skating game wherever the hell I want lmao.
That’s funny. I probably would’ve been the same way if I actually bought Mario Golf. I originally was going to buy it believe it or not, but then when I was at GameStop and I saw this game, I was just like screw it, I want this game instead. Not regretting it one bit.
“Any attempt to increase representation in video games should be vigorously applauded” This mindset is so fucking stupid, Like how about we applaud well done attempts to have “representation” It’s such a stupid thing to require anyway, But no I won’t mindlessly applaud video games that have some representation just because. And to make it clear, I like the non binary skater in the game, That’s a fine option and form of representation, I’m just complaining about the mindset of “Oh look, A group is represented in game, Time to give them credit simply because they did the bare minimum.”
I know why your muscle memory worked despite having only played 4, Alex. Like PJ said, they added some of the fundamental tricks from 3, 4, and Underground: reverts, spine transfers, acid drops, and wallplants. I had the same experience... Only with 200k combos, not to toot my own horn lol.
No game is 720 handheld, most are 540 dynamic handheld. Switch doesnt even support 1080p docked either it maxes out at 900p but this is 720p docked. Its between 400 and 640p handheld with an abysmal frame rate
Got a cup of coffee, Started this bad boy up the morning it was out.. and the 2000s vibe hit me in a way I did not expect. Got a bit emotional even. It was like seeing and immediately connecting with an old friend and being transported back to simpler, better times. Definitely my Switch game of the Summer. I also booted up the old GBA version of Pro Skater 2 from 20 years ago, for comparison’s sake. Really puts the evolution of Nintendo portables into perspective.
I hear ya man. The first game came out my freshman year of high school and me and my buddies played it for 100's of hours. We'd even skip school sometimes to see who could get higher scores. I was the first of my buddies to break a million on the school and roswell levels. Brings back some supremely simpler more enjoyable times. I do like this remaster so far but I think the character moves too damn fast most the time or I'm just getting old and can't keep up like I used to. Lol Still fun but I'm nowhere near as good at it as I was the first original game.
It is absolutely worth it. I love this game. It's such a faithful remake to the original. I do wish there was a quick way to turn around though. But that's just a tiny thing that doesn't effect the game at all
@Video Game Themes I could see it start to go on sale a bit just how Spyro or Crash have been. Probably a bit cheaper than $30 but it may take a bit for that to happen.
Personally I think the load times are pretty okay! And that's coming from a PS5 owner with the upgrade that basically boils the load times down to like 2 seconds lol. Great review!
Everyone knows Underground and Underground 2 are the best Tony Hawk games!! Cool story, fun missions and areas, plus the ability to walk and get off the skateboard. I'm still gonna pick this up probably.
I bought it, for nostalgic purposes i had thps on the n64 and thps 2 on the Dreamcast. This game looks great. But there are some frame rate issues in the multiplayer and pop in the in some of the stages and in the view goal section. But overall it looks very very very good the game is a must have
so glad the remake has come out on the switch, I have fond memories of playing one of the games (maybe a pair of them can't quite remember which ones exactly) during college on the OG Xbox. Can't wait to get my copy.

Never played any these games (I’m mainly a Nintendo fan) but they look like a blast
Play games that aren't made by Nintendo, jfc.
@@WaddleDee105 Let him play whatever he wants.
@@JCO78 He'll never know what he wants if he only plays games from one publisher.
@@WaddleDee105 Did that seriously make sense to you when you wrote it?
@@WaddleDee105 I have played many games made by companies other than Nintendo, hence why I said mainly. Try being nicer next time. Thanks 🙂
Character creation? Take my money!
Got all the achievements on Xbox and still getting this for on the go funzies
as a skater i should be really into this, but as of writing this comment I am all consumed by mario golf atm. But i will definitely get this game at somepoint for sure. glad to here it is a good port that makes me happy
How is mario golf for you personally? We’ve watched videos and all of that, but love personal opinions! Thanks :)
As a killer I should be really into cod, but I'm playing tony hawk instead
I used to play these with my big brother. 😄
What blew my mind was that my muscle memory kicked in from playing on the N64 as a kid in the 90s, I instantly knew the controls from the moment I started the game! Now that's impressive!
The N64 version of the first game didn't come out until 2000.
Same even the gameboy advance Version had a nearly similar button config, felt awesome!
💯 recommend!
don't miss your stop tho
You sure you can play THPS1+2 on the go anywhere everywhere with the switch? Last I checked it required a constant Internet connection to be playable except for Steam Deck.
The sound track is amazing! As a 42 yr old man I find myself buying every remastered game that comes along on the switch. These games have stolen 100's of hours of my life And I don't regret it 😂 the online leaderboard is awesome!!!
As a newly turned 42 year old to say I agree with you would be an understatement! 😅 Not to mention Having these retro games on the go 🛹 makes it even better.
If they put THUG 1+2 on switch, i would buy it
Playing this with the N64 controller they just announced will be fantastic!
I’m so excited. It’s downloading rn. Nostalgia here we come
this is when i brought home tony hawk for my gameboy advance..... this is what i was hoping it was going to be. I NEED A SWITCH NOW!
JoyCon Drift: I'm about to end this man's whole career.
Yo, there will be kids playing this that don't know what a VHS tape is
I really hope underground 1 and 2 get the same treatment switch and all, that being said wait for sale, will probably before the end of the year
I bought the cart but still 10gb download. Annoying. Have to archive stuff now so it'll fit
Memory cards are so cheap now.
I have a micro sd in the switch too
Crap.. was looking forward to picking up the physical? Is there any portion of the game playable without the download? Perhaps it’s just the multiplayer part (like with Doom) ?
@@flyingplantwhale545 I heard that the whole game is on the cart. What you are downloading should be the day 1 and multiplayer.
@@flyingplantwhale545 at least it's not one of those pointless "physical" download keys in an empty case things.
In my opinion, they chose the wrong Tony Hawk's game to remaster...it should've been Underground
That one has always been my favorite. But more people like 1 and 2 and they're way more popular. I like all of them anyways, even the "bad" ones. Well, the Neversoft developed ones, none of that Ride and Shred crap.
I actually agree. Imo, should have been Underground 1 + 2 or THAW. I'm still having a blast with this one tho
@Brian Donegan That's THUG 2 tho, THUG 1 was more serious.
This game is honestly amazing and nostalgic. Other games should take notes from this remaster. I got it yesterday and haven't pit it down since
I honestly want a call of duty for the switch
What?
They should release a cod zombies collection
Wouldn't do so good on the Switch
The part that made the Switch port the best port for me was the fact that the 30fps is the same Frame Rate that the Playstation original ran at, literally EVERYTHING muscle memory carried over easy
I got this on ps5 and on the switch and got dam is this game glorious on the switch I think I may prefer it compared to my ps4 copy because of its ability to go protable and still maintain standards
Bring back Tony hawk underground
When I can pull myself away from Mario Golf, I'm loving THPS. Soooo nostalgic.
That’s funny. I probably would’ve been the same way if I actually bought Mario Golf. I originally was going to buy it believe it or not, but then when I was at GameStop and I saw this game, I was just like screw it, I want this game instead. Not regretting it one bit.
I already got this for PS4/5 so might wait for a sale. Just was looking to see how well optimized it is. Good to see its actually pretty good.
“Any attempt to increase representation in video games should be vigorously applauded”
This mindset is so fucking stupid, Like how about we applaud well done attempts to have “representation”
It’s such a stupid thing to require anyway, But no I won’t mindlessly applaud video games that have some representation just because.
What are acid drops?
Skate 3 or 4 on switch please!!
Is it 1080p docked and 720p handheld? In any case, I can't wait for this. I had the GBA version (on GBA SP) but this looks like a fair improvement 😃
No game is 720 handheld, most are 540 dynamic handheld. Switch doesnt even support 1080p docked either it maxes out at 900p but this is 720p docked. Its between 400 and 640p handheld with an abysmal frame rate
@@ammanus356 very late to this comment but switch does support 1080p docked fyi lol
@@1venusflytrap Dynamic, but its essentially a locked 720p that hits 900p very rarely. It literally never hits 1080p, despite their claims
But that's just a tiny thing that doesn't effect the game at all
Down, down, right spin button quick turns if I remember right from the ps4 version
Is anybody else’s mind blown at how awful this dude is at THPS?
Haha great review though man.
Absolutely Pick this on "sale " someday
@Video Game Themes I could see it start to go on sale a bit just how Spyro or Crash have been. Probably a bit cheaper than $30 but it may take a bit for that to happen.
@@zeldan64fan50 I think physical versions go for $30 on PS4 right now, PS5 is a bit more.
As someone who considers these some of my all time favorite N64 games, this feels right at home having it on Switch!
Personally I think the load times are pretty okay! And that's coming from a PS5 owner with the upgrade that basically boils the load times down to like 2 seconds lol. Great review!
right? Personally I think people are being too overdramatic about it.
Im so happy with this game almost want to start skating again Next I want American wasteland
Same
This and GTA trilogy on sale currently..
Still unsure due to little to no praise elsewhere..
Do you like this game Alex? I can’t really tell.
A lot of waffeling 😅
Nah....
Noted above? Did you forget you were reading out loud?
Your skater looks JUST like you 🤣 awesome.
Everyone knows Underground and Underground 2 are the best Tony Hawk games!! Cool story, fun missions and areas, plus the ability to walk and get off the skateboard. I'm still gonna pick this up probably.
Yeah I loved Underground 2 and American Wasteland
I bought it, for nostalgic purposes i had thps on the n64 and thps 2 on the Dreamcast. This game looks great. But there are some frame rate issues in the multiplayer and pop in the in some of the stages and in the view goal section. But overall it looks very very very good the game is a must have
I have it on the ps5 but I want it on the switch too so I can play in bed lol
I have fond memories of this game as a kid. Does it live up to the nostalgia?
Gameranx said it does
Idk why but the skateboard always looks like it’s hovering off the ground
I'm still getting the hang of the game but so far It's wicked good
I played Tony Hawk Underground Remix on the PSP back in the day. The switch version takes me back lol
The only downside of this reboot is that you cant choose custom music it did on the original XBOX. I will def grab this game again.
I'm totally buying this to see how weird it feels on the Joycons
Skate 3 + switch? Think about it :)
Is this online multiplayer? Can I play 2player with a friend or just split screen?
I hate to say it but skate 3 needs a port on switch
so glad the remake has come out on the switch, I have fond memories of playing one of the games (maybe a pair of them can't quite remember which ones exactly) during college on the OG Xbox. Can't wait to get my copy.
Are both games on the cartridge or is it just the first game and a code for the 2nd game?
Thinking about picking this up soon even though I have it digitally on PS4. I had both games on the N-64 back in the day. Lol
Review made me buy it instantly 😂 I'm doing a video on Tony Hawk and skateboard culture coming week so timing was perfect (or is it) but I was initially going to wait till after the weekend, nope, and glad I didnt 😁🤟🏻
All I need to know.... does it have the same soundtrack as pro skater 2?
Does the physical version requires a download like other big titles? Or can I play with just the cartridge with no download at all?
As if read in other comments apparently the only download needed is for using the online multiplayer which is 3gb, but the whole single player game is on the cartridge.
Tha back of the game case says 10gb required download so I don't know if both games are on the cartridge
would rather do stunts on a video game instead of trying to break myself lol
Skateboarding isn't that dangerous, actually! It's statically one of the safer sports out there
Been doing it for 4 months now and still no problemo, highly recommend it 😁
@@hyperfixatedd when your not that flexible anymore.. I'll stick with video game version lol
Was a day one down load for me👍🏻
Where do you find mulity player feature at?
You if own the home versions and go to this version going from 60fps to 30 FPS might be a struggle.
Or will be a blast of fun if you prefer 30fps over 60.
@@adrenaliner91 nobody does
@@paulerlingheuser8453 younger gamers might, but 30 feels more natural for this game tbh. As someone that grew up with the series, 60fps just doesn’t feel as good.

Probably the best looking switch game to date.
Anyone else think we’re due for a Dave Mirra BMX remake?
Just give me the old game boy vibes yessir glad I had it on the main system and my switch
7:28 what aside?
I'm glad more people can enjoy this wonderful remaster of my childhood.
"Hello there lovely people" = instantly hit the back button
I never played Tony hawk so I hope with review helps
Do not buy it. Save your money. It is incredibly repetitive and boring. You’ll master every trick the game has to offer in less than 5 minutes.
I like how these original games came out in PS1 gbc and n64. And you just said the switch port was them transition to less powerful hardware.
just put an order for this game, can't wait for it to arrive
Now Someone should remaster Dave mirra freestyle BMX or Matt Hofmanns BMX
I hope this will be the same experience as the tony hawk psp
My daughter is wanting a skateboard for Xmas. Thought this might be a nice extra present. But she is 7, I see the age rating is 12. Can anyone advise if it’s either unsuitable in any way, or would the difficulty be too much??
These games bypassed me for some reason back in the day, so would be a good excuse for me to have a go as well 😂
don't be a Karen and just get her a game! :)
Just waiting for the first underground to be remastered
