I couldn’t think of any partners who had worked as hard as these two, they were my favourite and even though i think it was unfair that they are gone, i’m glad they came this far.
He was so damn good. I wanted him to be in the final so bad. I'm glad they got him back for the Christmas show cause that dance just proves he totally should of won or at least in the finale

I loved the concept and the styling. For me it did 'work out' although it does not surprise me that it isn't to everyone's taste.

I think Shirley wanted to make a bit of drama but it was ridic . Mollie has no chance of winning and Aston did . The music was a bit dreary and he needed to come back next week . I've lost interest if they just want to make shock headlines ..
It's such a coincidence that both him and Alexandra were on the same season! Considering they were both finalist's on X Factor. o;
He had so much potential, they made a mistake by letting him go, he was one of the contestants that could have stopped Alexandra from winning.
Still gutted they were eliminated they had some many amazing moments on that dance floor worst elimination ever

All I will say is these smug gloating people going 'Oh you should have voted'...I was voting Aston and Janette every week, this weekend included, so eat that one.
And as for Shirley Ballas. Qualified professional judge of ballroom and dance she may be, but she doesn't hold a candle to the warmth, humour and light that Len Goodman bought to the table as a judge that made him so popular and such a big part of the show.
In fact between this and how she has treated the likes of Charlotte Hawkins this series, I think the BBC are fools if they decide to continue on with her as a judge on the panel in 2018. Craig is no better either. The OTT gesturing at the feet of Debbie from both of them these last two weeks has been beyond embarrassing to watch.
There is almost a grim inevitability to how things will work out from hereon in now. A final with Debbie in (and no doubt Alexandra), that she wins and gets overmarked perfect 40s on (her Tango wasn't all that this week). This series was still exciting a week ago and just as good as last year because one of its real contenders was still in it. If Ore Oduba, who won it last year and was that year's one to beat had left at this point last year I would have felt exactly the same.
Regardless, good things will prevail for both Aston and Janette in due course though, because they always will. Good things eventually prevailed for Aston (and the rest of the JLS lads) in 2009 and I'm inclined to believe they will again. Just you watch.
His exit seems all the more ridiculous when you listen to the judges giving him high praise for his previous dances in this video. I'm still so annoyed. It's always sad when one of your favourites are voted off, but it becomes frustrating when it's an unjust exit. There were so many things working against Aston on Saturday night, all of them out of his control - the song, the theme, the costumes, the choreography, and most importantly, the unbelievably unfair marking. Yes, it wasn't his best dance and yes, the public should have voted for him more, but the judges should have also judged him properly. If Craig hadn't given him that unjustifiable 4 (you get a 4 for just turning up fgs), he never would have been at risk of being in the dance off in the first place. I'm happy the judges voted for Mollie in the dance off as she danced better (I would have saved Aston on any other day), but I'm annoyed Aston was second from the bottom on the leaderboard on Saturday, putting him in the danger zone for the results show. All I can say is that he was royally stitched up and it's all just totally unfair. Anyone that continues to vote for so-called entertainment over dancing ability can get lost as well. We've lost a potential finalist and now have to endure more prancing around on the dancefloor. I like joy and fun too, but I get my joy and fun from watching good dancers.
Hema Malik previous dances don’t count in dance off, those are the rules. So it’s all public fault. If Ruth who was right at the bottom went through then so would’ve Aston if his fans voted enough, it’s really as simple as that. In fact I can think of atleast 3 celebs who are worse than him and yet have never been in dance off.

I understand you were unhappy with the judging during this edition which resulted in Aston Merrygold being voted off the show.
We love that our viewers are passionate about the contestants. Your opinions form an important part of the voting process, as no matter where the contestants are placed on the leaderboard after the judges’ scores have been awarded, the audience votes can change everyone’s position.
However, the judges do have the final say when it comes to the dance off. Their decisions are based on their professional opinion and expertise. They are in no way influenced or instructed how to score or who to save.
If there is a tie in the judges’ vote in the dance off (that is, two-two) then Shirley's vote as Head Judge takes precedence. This has always been the case on Strictly. This applies if the judges are split with two votes each. Of course if it is three to one and Shirley is the 'one' then Shirley is in the minority and the three votes take precedence.
We do appreciate that it can be disappointing when a favourite dancer is voted off, but we have no control over the outcome of the public vote, and the judges make their final decision based on the performance in the dance off alone.

They got voted off because they were too good and too far ahead of the others to make it any real competition. The talent/fitness/flexibility/musicality/inventive choreography of this perfect couple was a complete joy to watch.
Wildcard / Just bring him back, the voting on Strictly needs to be changed from the Judges to the Public. Otherwise it could be argued the show is rigged....

I have never been more shocked watching strictly come dancing ever! Aston Merrygold was in my opinion, the best dancer of this series and my favourite to win, and he didn't even make it to Blackpool week! Sure the Viennese waltz wasn't his best dance but it wasn't terrible, and he could definitely have had a chance to redeem himself. When the results came on the next day, I was certain he'd make it through to next week despite not having a spectacular performance, but you know what, he didn't! He ended up in the dance off with Mollie King. I wasn't actually raging at this point, sure I was disappointed, but I thought to myself: eh, I got nothing to worry about, the judges will definitely choose to save him! What did make me rage though was the fact that it shockingly came to a casting vote from Shirley Ballas who chose to save Mollie! Aston was out of the competition and it was only week 7, he definitely should have make it a lot further than that, in fact if anything, he should have been a worthy finalist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
I’ve already posted this comment but I will post it again: Well done to the British public once again for proving you are not worthy of voting for anything, whether it's general elections or a bloody tv show. I find it mortifying that people are actually voting for the worst dancer in the competition a.k.a Ruth. It's so sad to see what was once a dance show now turning into a comedy sketch thanks to fucking Anton du Beke (just retire already ffs). Genuinely upset to see Aston and Janette leave, they were worthy finalists. Signed: a Brit abroad who can’t vote 😞

You have to remember, much like many other shows, people unfortunately believe the strongest links are often already safe; & when that mindset in the general public is set, they get too complacent. That’s when people like Aston fall through the cracks. It happens on I’m a Celeb.. Big Brother (more so the old school Big Brother on channel 4 when it was actually entertaining.. !), as much as it does on Strictly, & people are continuously shocked when it happens. That’s why people have to vote if they wish to see their favourite stay in.
Although I don’t agree with the final decisions laying with the judges. I never have. I fell out of love with Dancing on Ice for that very reason. It feels redundant to vote if our votes make no real change in that final decision, however, thats simply my opinion.
Laura Williams Well said :) it’s just so frustrating to me because I watch Strictly from a dancer’s point of view like the judges and to have someone like Ruth go through is just a complete farce! People can say what they like but at the end of the day it is still technically a dance competition :(
In fairness Aston’s Waltz was a weak routine. Certain contestants always attract votes, but it was the judge’s marks that had kept him safe. Without that, the public appeal wasn't there and past performances dont count. It's just taste, SCD is a light entertainment show. I thought Ruth and Anton were wonderful, not the best technically but delightfully amusing.

Yes... and I found it bizarre because when Tom Bergeron was handed the results envelop and started screaming "hmmmmm interestingggggg, hmmmmm unexpected" like an idiot, I took his exaggeration to mean that there was going to be *no* elimination. But it was the opposite. Artem's face broke my heart!

Amy Taylor Ruth is entertaining which is why I feel she has an edge over Gemma. Gemma isn't really entertaining or interesting and isn't a stand out dancer either!
Wow, they were in the competition for a lot longer than it seemed last year. They still went too soon.
Craig gave Aston a 4, the same as Ruth, and they fell over in a heap at the end !!!!!!!! ???? how can he possibly justify that ? he is trying to be controversial on a show which does not need it, this is not the dreaded XF. And when a decision is that close, the decision must go in favour of the couple with the best chance of winning, at the end of the day it is an entertainment program.

Idk why I comment on these videos but I do, Aston should’ve won I don’t care what anyone says, Molly had a shit show in that dance off and Craig and Shirley need glasses for voting for her
I watched when he came back - and very rightly - won the special at Christmas last year, but for me this is the point I stopped caring about/taking as much of an interest in Strictly. It lost all credibility for me when Aston, by far one of the best dancers this show has ever had, was the sacrificial lamb in Craig and Shirley - and I dare say the producers' - convuluted ploy to fast track Alexandra and/or Debbie to a win and voted him out tactically, which neither of them got in the end anyway because Joe won. But it just didn't feel like a satisfying watch from that point on. Pleased to see Aston's done so well since off the back of the show, sell out tour of his own, also starring in the West End with Harry Judd, Jay McGuinness and Louis Smith in 'Rip It Up' and setting up his own dance studios. He's had the last laugh undoubtedly.

Tom Mason: That 4 from Craig was out of order. The rest of the judges gave 7's. His score should have mirrored the other judges. No way was a 4 justified. I still miss Aston.
Judges knew Aston and Janette were sure finalists and made sure they wouldnt get there by undermarking him this week based on the concept and costumes rather than the actual routine. It also bugged me that in the DO, Mollie had an illegal lift overlooked and another stumble, yet Astons performance was flawless. Shirley needs to be booted off ASAP as the bias shes showing towards Debbie is just becoming a joke and its obvious now that the judges have a clear, personal agenda.
mschrissi100 It is based on the Dance Off. Mollie fixed her mistake, but for Aston, he couldn't fix his dance. The Viennese Waltz Isn't supposed to be bouncy like the Quick Step, but Janette choreographed it to be bouncy. I know Aston is an amazing dancer, but it is how they did that week.
Im a former dancer, and technically there was nothing wrong with Astons dance other than that slight bounce. It was the theme and set up they didnt like. The pro dancer can only work with what they are given by the producers who chose the song and concept. You cant judge a dance on that. If its purely based on the dance off, then the judges should have booted off Mollie for her illegal lift and stumble, so she didnt actually fix her dance. Like i say, its clear that the judges (especially Shirley) have their favourites (Debbie, Joe and Gemma)
I know it's been three years, but Aston and Janette getting kicked off in Week 7 is precisely where the show "jumped the shark" for me and I stopped caring about it as much. My respect of both Shirley and Craig went down the toilet with it. I still say this wouldn't have happened under Len Goodman's watch or indeed on a Brucie era episode of the show. Strictly has now gone the way The X Factor went, where it started believing it's own hype and being all "Nothing is bigger than the show", and the thing is you can't escape it because the tabloids are all full of it months in advance, and it seeps into every possible BBC show that it can, and all it exists for now is to be their cash cow that gets people talking about "the latest scandal" or the "latest controversial moment". Which was never the point of it in the first place when it started.

They “had” to judge based off the final dance. Mollie was better in the dance off. It doesn’t matter if Aston was generally the better dancer
I think it should be based on combination of both the dance off and their overall potential in the competition. Mollie had a slight foot stumble on that dance off, Aston didn’t!

Yes Aston was one of the best dancers and a favourite in our house, but Janette's routine this week was a dud and he didn't perform it that great either. Judged purely on the dance off this week he deserved to go.

Don’t know what’s wrong with people trying to put the blame on others and not acknowledging the fact that he’s performance this week was weak and it would not be fair for him to be kept in after dance off just because he’s been good other weeks when others have left purely on dance off.
Also, lets not forget, if the public had voted more for Aston, he would not have been in the Dance Off despite a relatively low score from the judges. Ruth does this every week.

It's a fix, that' all I have to say, very disappointed in the BBC.
I have never been more angry at a Strictly Come Dancing results show before. He shouldn't of even been in that dance off to start with, just because this dance wasn't one of his most amazing (but still it was technically impressive.) As the judges said he was always one to watch and should of been in the final yet they voted him off against Molly, who can dance but who will probably be voted out in the next two weeks. Len would of kept him in yet Shirley (who I think suits well in the show) but she only praises the women allllll the time! SO SO angry, biggest and worst decision ever to kick him off the show!
Shirley Ballas and AJ are very good friends, so of cause she's going to save Molly and AJ.
It's sad they've gone but after that awful routine I'm not surprised- he was clearly the weakest in the dance off compared to Mollie, who improved from the original.
