Thank you for your comment. Wet film combs can be used on concrete surfaces. However, care should be taken that the roughness of the surface does not affect your measurement results. It may not be possible to get accurate, reliable measurements on extremely rough surfaces. ASTM D4414 states: "The procedures using notched gages do not provide as accurate or sensitive measurements of wet film thickness as do the Interchemical and Pfund gages described in Test Methods D1212. Notch gages may, however, be used on nonuniform surfaces, like concrete block, that are too rough to use the Interchemical and Pfund gages." Hi, If you would like to measure dry film thickness we have a wide selection of devices available ranging from destructive to non-destructive. They can be found here: www.elcometer.com/en/coatings-inspection/all-coatings-inspection/dry-film-thickness.html If you have any other questions please contact techsales@elcometer.com
Hi, We offer a range destructive gauges for this exact application. They can be found here: www.elcometer.com/en/coatings-inspection/all-coatings-inspection/dry-film-thickness/destructive.html If you have any other questions please contact techsales@elcometer.com
Thank you for your comment. You can use the wet film comb to measure wet film thickness along the axis of a cylinder, but not across the curved surfaces. Alternatively a wet film wheel can be used to measure wet film thickness on curved surfaces, depending on the size and curvature of the surface. Thank you for your comment. For measuring powder coatings we recommend the Elcometer 155 Uncured Powder Film Comb: www.elcometer.com/en/coating-inspection/wet-film-powder-thickness/powder-thickness-measurement/elcometer-155-uncured-powder-film-comb.html If you have any further questions, you can always contact techsales@elcometer.com or visit www.elcometer.com/contact-us to find your local Elcometer distributor.
Thank you for your comment. If your coating is applied as a liquid and has 100% volume solids content, then the thickness value you obtain using a wet film comb will most likely be the same as the dry film thickness once the coating has cured. However, if your coating was only 50% volume solids, your dry film thickness would half the value of your wet film thickness. If you have any further questions please contact techsales@elcometer.com or visit www.elcometer.com/contact-us to find your local Elcometer distributor.

The best explanation of this method on UA-cam.
Wow, I knew what the comb was for but the science involved is mind blowing for laymen such as myself.
Well that's bloody brilliant.
Thank you
Thanks
