Elton did this 11 minute version of Levon last night at the Forum in Inglewood and it was one of many high points in the almost 3 hour concert. This was his 25th appearance at this venue.
I was at that show too. Levon was hands down the best song he did that night. I was blown away. That experience turned the song from one I always kind of liked, to one of my favorites from him.
@@chrisbeagle2800 👍 Agree with you - ‘Levon’ is just about my personal fav Elton one too! I’ve already left my own comments on this video, but to repeat myself, slightly, not only was his voice great (in the 2 ‘Farewell’ concerts I was at in ‘22) but his talented piano 🎹 playing with this one esp. was absolutely amazing! ❤ the more instrumentals he’s added to it as compared with his earlier years and styles. Plus, Ray Cooper does an outstanding job on drums, and with so much enthusiasm like always (as well as the rest of the band members, but Coop takes the cake imo!).
Ray Cooper adds so much to Eltons music. I always thought there was something missing on Looking Up but at this show to have Ray on the tambourine just put that missing piece in. What a great combo! Much love to Ray and Elton and all the band for playing better than they have in 10 years.
He's been doing this version during his farewell tour, saw him in October 2019 in Milwaukee. Amazing show. Any chance I get to see him again before he hangs it up, I'll take it. Simply amazing.
Oh okay....so I have been searching so hard to find this live on an album or something. So it doesn't exist? Gutted....I need this for my car concerts sung by me haha!
I don’t know if it helps you or not, but I bought this entire concert as a DVD after watching it on TV (a local PBS station I believe, and around a year after the actual BBC Radio2 concert). It has EVERY single song on it, plus it was a perfectly done video visual version to boot! I know it’s now more of a ‘technology’ thing for music to be played on various apps, and ‘on the go’, but watching it on a huge, wide screen TV can’t top them imo! Hope it’s a little bit helpful at least - that’s if you even see this message!
If you think about it, these are a bunch of old guys jamming to one of their hit records they made in their 20s. The story of Elton John and his band may be tragic (RIP Dee Murray, Guy Babylon, and Bob Birch), but it is great as well.
❤ This version of Levon and the other one that was done in 2016 in London (BBC Radio 2, I believe it was) are my absolute favorites on what’s my personal favorite song of his! It’s now 2022, and I just saw him 2 X’s live in concert for his ‘Farewell’ tour at two different venues near me in NJ, and Elton’s performance was just as good as it was back then! Ray and the rest of the band members were also performing with him (minus the 2CELLOS that were in the other one I mentioned along with some other backup singers), and Ray Cooper was STILL knocking himself out as always, as were the others! This entire concert is great, and I don’t think that Elton’s aging or having had Covid - or anything else, made him less than terrific! To me, he’s not only a talented musician and singer, but he’s also a great entertainer - which isn’t that common in my eyes. BTW - I’m 67 years old now and was a classical pianist and organist since I was 5, and believe me when I say that his piano 🎹 playing on Levon is NOT easy to do well, and esp since he has short, chubby fingers!
Levon is my all-time favorite Elton song! Just saw his ‘Farewell’ concert twice in ‘22, and he played it too, with Ray Cooper STILL giving it his all like he does in this one! ❤ that all the other musicians here were also there doing the same, including Elton❗️(I’m 67 now and grew up with EJ and his music, but personally I think he’s gotten better with age and like that he has been putting more 🎹 instrumentals in his performances!)
is this crowd dead or I hope just in too much amazement as to what they are witnessing. my God. they are seeing the coming of the king. IM SAVED AFTER THIS PERFORMANCE. AMAZING BAND
I think the guitarist’s 🎸 name is spelled Davey Johnson, but I could be mistaken? To me, what’s more important than this is that he’s great, as are Elton and ALL the others in his band - esp. Ray Cooper, who is always knocking himself out - ❤ it! I wish I had 1/2 his energy (and I’m 67)! *** I just saw his ‘Farewell’ concert tour (2 X’s!) in ‘22 (the 2nd with 1st row floor seats, right on the stage), and Coop was there too! Unfortunately, the 2CELLOS weren’t 😢.
This version of Levon has too many musical instruments playing at the same time, youcan barely feel and enjoy the song. A perfect example that most of times the better way to go is just let the "piano man make his stand in the audithorium"
his piano playing is literally insane

Yeah!!! One of my favorite Elton John songs ever!!! Fantastic live performance!!
definitely the best live tune, him and his band always tear this song apart
This man is by far the most talented musician ever existed!
I wish Elton would release the live versions of Levon (the ones with the epic solo) on Spotify

I was close to the front. It was a fuckin' jam!!!
Elton is great. Bit too much going on in this version sadly. However the lead guitar work on this performance really stands out. Who is playing?
his guitarist is davey johnstone
Hahaha you stupid bastard! XD
Agree.

I miss Bob Birch
❤Ray❤
just need Tina Turners Dancers to bring it home.
Burt Mustin on percussion?
Bald guy is ray cooper and the one with the hair is john mayhon
I love Elton......but I did not enjoy this version of Levon. It seems his voice has gone. I noticed this around 96-1997

Thiago Dalboni It is perfect. I could use less percussion, and that’s it.
Love to see him jam. No vocals. Such a great band
