I recently discovered Nate's stand-up while going through a rough patch a few months ago, but I was an immediate fan. This podcast has become my solace during my lonely graveyard shifts at work. I'm support staff at a homeless shelter, and some nights can be unbearably boring. There are so many moments during this podcast where I've had to stifle my laughter, so I don't wake up the residents at ungodly hours. The cows wearing the pants almost killed me. Thank you for the laughs, you guys :) please tour the PNW soon!

Hey Bear. I’m not having a good time. Been awake all night doing an experiment; my husband is in snoring denial. Every time I hear him snorting like a farm animal, I hit record on my phone. I’ve done some sound editing and he’s about to wake up to the sounds of his own snores! He can sleep through my all-night Nateland marathons- I keep my phone under my pillow. He did ask me about the guys I’m sleeping with and I knew what he meant.
His helpful idea is that I should go to sleep earlier. We’re about to have an epic dumb marriage fight over this. He’s snoring again.

    • @kriashun
      @kriashun Рік тому

Ohh Ive been there-so many dumb arguments! I finally told him if you say that you’re not snoring then you are saying that I am lying-and he knew I wasn’t somebody who made up stories or lied. That didn’t really fix it but I stuck to it and started sleeping on the couch in order to get any sleep! We’re not together anymore lol not from that, or maybe?🤔 he is now his current wife’s problem!!😳😎

Hello Folks! My 14 year old son and I are HUGE fans of Nateland and listen every week. We were listening in the car ride home from school when Bates mentioned the idea of listening at 2xs speed. I tried it and we didn't care for it. The next option is 1/2 speed and I clicked that. My son and I laughed harder than I thought was possible because all of you sounded completely intoxicated and the beginning banter on the Dakotas was surprisingly believable as things intoxicated people would say. You really should listen to a portion of the show at half speed to see what Im talking bout. Keep up the great work. My wife and I bought tickets to Nate's show in Baton Rouge in February.

I was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota…two weeks after graduating high school I left for the Marine Corps where I spent 9 1/2 years. During my time in I met people from all over the country and world…EVERYONE would say the same thing, “you’re the first person I’ve met from there.” Cut to now and Rapid City is the fastest growing city in the Midwest! Love the pod and god bless!

Dusty, there is a documentary about Sue the T-Rex that would blow your mind. Lots of history but you have to check out the true story of Hugh Glass who inspired the movie The Revenant. Hey bear. Finally, I once saw a real UFO but didn’t think to actually report it. Hope Nate’s show is half as great as last time!

Things the boys missed about the great state of North Dakota: the Badlands, the Medora Musical; Theodore Roosevelt National Park; The historic Lewis and Clark trail (and that Lewis and Clark wintered in ND); the Potato Bowl; The Garrison dam, and that Phil Jackson, Angie Dickinson, Peggy Lee, Lawrence Welk, Roger Maris and Louis L’Amour are all from ND. Also, The Audubon Society (not Ranker) lists ND as one of the top places for birdwatching.

I traveled from Northwest Indiana to Oregon in 2017 and took I-90 through South Dakota and remember seeing signs for this mysterious place called "Wall Drug." But what was weird about it was how far away this place still was. The sign read "Stop at Wall Drug in 394 miles" and then subsequent distances from there on until you arrive in this weird place that ultimately ends up being a giant strip mall size gift shop with ice cream, food, miscellaneous South Dakota themed gifts and clothes, and so much more. It was an experience for sure! Just thought it was a South Dakota staple worth mentioning!

Just a note, Aaron, you might wanna be careful zooming in too much on Google maps. If you zoom in too close in the wrong area, you might accidentally give away Nate's home address. I'm assuming that pin in Tennessee is Nate's house. (Not that you did, but just in case you weren't thinking about that, just something to think about in the future.) If you browse in incognito mode, it will not show any personal info like that.

I’m curious how Nate’s stomach felt for those 2 weeks he was off the wagon. I’ve eaten the exact same healthy meal, OMAD intermittent fasting for 2 straight months.
The fair came to town so I ate somewhat badly with my family for the weekend. My stomach has been making noises and feeling awful the past 2 days while I’ve also slept bad. I keep asking myself why I ate like that. Back to my disciplined eating style.
I can’t imagine what Nate’s stomach was like going full throttle for 2 weeks.

Nate - We just saw you in Cedar Rapids last night. It was a "mental health" break for me and my family. Laughter is so good for the spirit! I laughed so hard that my stomach hurt and I had to keep wiping my eyes. 🤣 There was no way I could go without telling you what happened on the way in to the venue. We took my MIL with us to the show. She was not really familiar with your comedy. Right before they checked tickets, we had to go through metal detectors. As she went through, the alarm went off. They asked her if she had anything in her pockets and she said keys. Was it her keys? My husband suggested they try with the keys, or without; let's see what happens. Maybe they've been lying to us all this time. I looked at my daughter and said, "No way that just happened.....AS we are walking in to see Nate!"😆😆 Thanks for being who you are and sharing it with us all! We can't wait to see you in January in Des Moines!!!

NDSU has actually won 9 total national championships since 2011. A fun story from the first of those games is that the NDSU fans drank the stadium hosting the event out of beer in the first half, and they had to bring in more during halftime.
P.S. We North Dakotans are very proud of the word “North” in our states name. Anyone who says we don’t is either uninformed, or jealous of our national titles

    2 things:
    1. I went to Peru over the summer and met a Peruvian kid while there. I asked him if he ever wanted to visit the US and what he’d like to see. After a while of translating he said the biggest thing he wanted to see was Mount Rushmore. He said he “looked up to those presidents.” So I guess that shows people in other countries do think about Rushmore over other rock monuments
    2. I have been to Dinosaur National Park and the reason they don’t have every single bone of a dinosaur is because most of the places they find dinosaur bones were once water sources like rivers, therefor, when a dinosaur would die, a lot of the smaller bones would be washed downstream.

We went to South Dakota this year for vacation. Driving through the scenic route of the Badlands was the best part. The sun was setting, we got to see wild rams and bison, and my sons ran around the hills pretending to be outlaws. That was a relief because it had been a ROUGH vacation day the previous day at Mt. Rushmore.
Sadly, we didn't visit North Dakota. Maybe if Aaron had been in charge of marketing we would have. Or maybe not, afterall they've had gimmicks before. They named their capital Bismarck to attract German immigrants and the state's population speaks for itself. I hope Aaron's new vocation will lead [North] Dakota to new heights.
    I'll go proofread this now.

Two punch ups for Kristi Pickens' show idea.
    1. Call it "Chip Shot" and Dusty's character is named Chip.
    2. Instead of a semi-pro racecar driver, make him be exceptionally good at something really obscure like souped up lawnmower racing.
So, Chip's a local legend, naturally gifted but never ventured to be more than he is...outside of the trailer park his fame fades pretty quick. You can explore ideas of what it means to be successful through the antics of these two new neighbors, one of which has "made it big" but only in a realm no one follows, and one who is struggling to "make it big" with something more mainstream but the more he pushes and sacrifices the more jaded and/or bitter he becomes.

Fireworks are used to protect the sunflowers from the birds. Sometimes farmers put "cannons" out in the field that fire off periodic bangs in an attempt to scare away the birds. My father-in-law attempted to scare away the birds so they wouldn't eat the seeds, but they eventually became accustomed to the periodic booms, making the strategy ineffective. Man-made bones have a metal support system running through the inside of the bones, but real fossil bones have to be held up by an exterior metal support system. Using this information, we were able to determine that most of the fossils in our museum are, in fact, man-made.

Rushmore but we also have the Crazy Horse monument (my cousin is a great great great grandson of the great warrior), we have AMAZING walleye fishing here on Lake Oahe, and Sitting Bull's burial site overlooks the river (although it's disputed if it's actually his bones here or if they're in Fort Yates-quite the ordeal around his bones...people went back and forth stealing his bones between Mobridge and Ft. Yates although I don't know why). We also have the Sturgis Rally where you can sometimes have a meet and greet with members of the Hell's Angels (yikes). We also have amazing artists John Lopez and Del Iron Cloud. And remember the amazing story of Hugh Glass (The Revenant)? And as far as low UFO sightings go, I know a few ranchers who have seen and heard some STUFF... they just don't report it

As a North Dakotan, when I first saw "The Dakotas" I was a bit upset to be lumped together. But I was just in South Dakota for a wedding last week and I had a good time and enjoyed some beautiful scenery (and had fun gambling and imbibing in Deadwood). When mentioning ND sports I would have liked to hear UND hockey in the conversation (great atmosphere at the games and has produced some great NHL talent). Wish I was seeing Nate in Fargo!

Good episode guys! I am sure a lot of people thought “really? The Dakotas? BORING!” But I used to live in South Dakota (military brat) and lived on Sitting Bull Court. We used to visit Mount Rushmore a lot when people would come visit and our 2 dogs were even named Rushmore and Dakota. And I like that Dusty bought up Devil’s Tower, even though it was in Wyoming, we visited it as well and my dumb child brain thought that Bear from the legend was actually that size #HeyBear
Brought back a lot of memories ☺️

So excited to see the new dates included Johnson City TN! I texted a bunch of friends and family to see who all wanted to go, then I ended up having to pay for the tickets of eight different people (since, apparently the whole thing was my idea). I'll probably never get paid back but I've got my ticket! Worth it!

I was born in ND…years ago the state ran a campaign to encourage people to move back to ND,
did you know Dick Clark’s wife is from Steele, ND….just a few hundred people live there and where I used to live until age 7. Apparently Dick Clark would ride a car in their 4th of July parade. 😁
It’s such a small town the golf course is on the honor system if the staff is not working. 🤦‍♀️. It a place where you’ll find genuine people.
I read at one point there were more cars than people in ND. It’s so flat, so much snow but no mountain to ski. They need to make it a cross country skiing resort.

I was on a date night with my wife at a comedy club once in peoria Illinois. We purchased our tickets online before the show. We showed up to the show 10 min before it was supposed to start and there was literally 2 other people there. So a comic named Johnny Beaner. Played a show for 2 couples I felt terrible for him but him and his opener did a full show for us. What's the smallest crowd you had to perform for.

Literally 20 minutes from me! I am so bummed I missed an opportunity to go see him!! 😔 Hope it was a great time!! ☺️

I've lived in both North and South Dakota. South is beautiful - North? Not so much - unless you enjoy the super cold and wind. Interesting side note - theres a saying up in North Dakota - "There's a good looking woman hiding behind every tree in North Dakota" - because there are very few trees 🤣😂

A friend of mine used to cycle through clothes from Kohls and return them at another location every few weeks. He once went to return some shoes that caught fire at a campsite and a lady recognized him. Her name badge said “20 years” and he had to argue with her about their 6 month no-receipt return policy. She accepted the return and banned him from Kohls. He never stopped.

Hey Bear! Thanks for reading my comment! Good thing Nate was unsure of the pronunciation of my last name because Aaronland shut my comment down pretty quick. I guess I'm the only one that noticed Nate says "I'm not a _____ guy" quite a bit. I will assume it is because I binged all the episodes starting in August when I stumbled on Nateland through TikTok. Keep up the good work, I'm a big fan of the whole crew!!
