- The team visits Greenwich in search of Henry VIII's lost armoury and jousting yard, which was located beside his favourite palace - now the site for the Naval College and Maritime Museum.
The way Stewart talks and his voice seems like he’s a gentle and kind person.
Soo I’ve been binge watching time team for a few days... and just now while eating ice cream, I found myself “excavating” a very large chocolate chip. Yeah.

I love your show, but I despise henry 8 so much I can't watch this.
I've never understood why Henry VIII is considered one of England's greatest kings. As a human, he seems to have been pretty deplorable character. As a king, his most notable accomplishments seem to have been spending loads of money indulging his own hobbies, appetites and vanity, and declaring himself a religious figurehead so he could marry his mistress and line his own pockets. Can someone enlighten me as to what was so "great" about Henry?
Great does not necessarily mean good.

@@Libbathegreat Broke the back of RC church. Dissolved and looted the monastery's. Married 6 times, divorced some a brutal manner. And somewhat a larger than life. ergo a great pillock.
Love these great shows but, they also give me a chuckle because if I watch the close ups of people talking it reminds me of when I was a boy in the late 1950's watching Japanese monster movies on Saturday afternoon TV that were dubbed in English for export to north America.

Using a magnet to find metal filings and not putting the magnet in a plastic bag drives me bonkers. Get a box of sandwich baggies so you can quickly and easily release the filings!

Using the magnets to determine forge activity is amazing archaeology. The tiniest of items.
If Phil is 6' 2" then the guy in suit that is helping fit him with the armour must be 7' bloody tall !!!!
The helpers were on ladders. Just like in the old days. François 1er of France was also well over 6 ft. Such statures are extremely unusual for the times. His armour stands a head and half above that of his close associates in the showcase at the Invalides military museum.

KeepItSimple - yes, Tony had a breast-plate made for him. Near the end of the episode, you will have seen Phil being suited up in a copy of King Henry the 8th’s armour. They chose Phil to be the model for the King’s armour as Phil is the only one who is the same height (6’2”) as King Henry. So, you are both right & wrong.

British English: tu is pronounced chew. ( also in tuna, tutor, institute, Tuesday etc). dor is an unstressed syllable hence is pronounced with a schwa vowel sound ( google “”schwa phonetics” if you want to understand more. ) like ‘er’ or even ‘a’. ( also in words like actor, doctor, teacher, etc). Hope that’s of interest. I’m a EFL teacher.

I don't pronounce the t in tudor as ch (I'm from Hull) I say tchewdeh or tyoodeh definitely different from chew of choo-choo

I am still amazed at how the English, in the times of such lack of things, how such great halls with massive walls were later torn down for making other massive walls. We think of all the castles but there are just as many no longer there.
tyg, makes no sense, does it? I see the same thing in America. Companies will tear down new, perfectly good buildings, and put another one, worse looking, in it's place.
The wealthy and powerful are very wasteful. It's all about themselves, and annihilating others and their works (thus coincidentally their powerbases) is an effective way to build themselves up and establish their hegemony.
Matter of perspectiv e. They were more or less municipal bldg s to the masses and disposable wealth to the kings. Also recycling building material was always more important to all involved over preservation which is a very modern sentiment.
I was disappointed not to see Dr Lucy Worsley on as a Tudor and Henry VIII expert. But this was quite a while ago so maybe she wasn’t specialized in this area yet.
Bluewolf it appears she was working for Glasgow museums when this was filmed in 2003. She was a history PhD before that so she was certainly very knowledgeable about the Tudor and Elizabethan period.
The gentleman that is shown explaining the maps to Stuart at the beginning of the episode, Jonathan Foyle was at the time of filming, Head of Historic Royal Palaces. That job is now held by Dr. Lucy Worsley. I’m guessing everyone who has done that job knows a great deal about the Tudors.

Greenwich Palace wasn't in London. It was in the ancient county of Kent. It didn't become part of London until the creation of the L.L.C. in the late 1880s. But, none the less, it's still a great episode.

It makes you realize the sound of smithing would’ve been a constant bit of background noise for thousands of years in town and cities. They’d have learned to tune it out like we do with the sound of traffic.

I would disagree. Tony said he was one of the greatest not the greatest. Henry is responsible for breaking with the Roman Catholic Church, establishing the Church of England, Fathering Elizabeth the I, promoting the Protestant Reformation (to an extent), curbing the power of the nobility, he was a great humanist scholar, and on and on. He was a great leader despite his flaws, ego, hypochondria, serial husband, narcissistic and murderous tendencies. But he helped to set the stage for England to become the most powerful country in the world.
Perhaps, one of the most well-known vs one of the greatest kings? Beheading one's wives (under the guise of treason) does not count as acts of greatness. Really enjoyed the historical info of this episode, especially the making of a suit of armour. What craftsmanship!

Not in hindsight, clearly-- but at the time, when he was young, Henry was literally worshiped by his people and his court. He was not only young and strong, he was apparently very attractive and possessed limitless kingly qualities; he spoke many languages, wrote music and poetry, spent endless amounts of money and jousted like the best of them. His first 15-20 years were seen as a new golden age. It was later in his reign that he really became as bloated, wrathful and murderous as we see him today.
How could he even say that? The worst piece of garbage in history...and that is against trump
