Tomorrow is Malaysia Independence Day. You guys can go to DATARAN MERDEKA, KL to celebrate it together with local people. It has more interesting events and activities happen there.
If you're still in Penang by 31st August, please come to Esplanade to watch our celebration on Malaysia's 65th Independence Day. It resumes after two years of pandemic, so please look forward to our special public holiday. The celebration itself will be held all over the country, but it will be at the Esplanade if you're still around in Penang tomorrow.
The easiest trek is through the botanic garden (from behind). Its a paved road used by the jeep to go up the hill, will take you about 1.5 - 2 hrs to reach to the top..
thank you, Zoe and Simon! am heading to Penang end of sept (hence the binging of vids) very grateful to hear your tips and advice ahead of time (no hikes for us though, Mom's 70yo we are doing the _chillax_ version of Penang😆) still...am grateful have a great stay...thanks for posting/sharing!
I drove from Singapore to Penang last century, and arrived in Penang with a horrible flu, missing out on most of the fantastic scenery and all of the world famous food. The day I left for Thailand the flu left me. I'm glad you had a great time there, though fear that finding a crab half way up a mountain may haunt you for the rest of your lives : )
The route that you took used to be more popular 30-40 years ago. I used to live nearby and i will hike up that route everyweek to & would pass by other hikers. Now there are many other alternate routes up the hill & that route is barely used.
Great video guys, I saw something we locals never see before in Penang. Still there are many hills in Malaysia to explore and we like to see. Thank you!
What month or year did you do this? Cause the furnicular is surely working for almost a year now since Covid. Also, that was a Chempedak fruit, not a Durian. 😉
This was a few weeks ago at the end of May. Somebody told us that it wasn't running because of Covid, but I just looked it up and apparently it was closed in May due to maintenance, our mistake!
Hi Zoe your question on whether both of you are the dumb. My answer - NOPE! Both of you are fabulous and you are very pretty. And lots of people get lost in that kind of environment. I serve my National Service in Singapore (which is the Army) and I can testify that a lot of people are poor in directions. The moment you walk into a jungle and you look back, you will not be able to identify which way you came from. Just finished watching your vid and I must say it was very well done. Thanks for bringing us on your adventure. Stay safe.
Westerner called them turtles for both freshwater turtle and sea turtles...but in this region we call it tortoise for fresh water and turtles for sea water .tq
Yeah UA-cam is tough! We also aren't doing that full time. We saved up enough money working full-time to go on a long-term trip this year. But we'll also be working regularly again and also working remotely in the future 🙂 Of course travelling takes more planning then, but we'll try to make it work as best we can!
Excellent video. I would love to this hike someday but it’s just such a long flight from 🇺🇸. 4:52 what a lovely view.
Thank you! Yes, we'd also love to return regularly if it weren't for those long flights 😁
great video and congratulation for your successful hiking to the station...good job and enjoy the nasi kandar...really delicious..
Thank you very much! 😊
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your explorations in Penang. D nasi kandar looked divine.

There are many non profit hiking groups in Penang. They would be glad to guide you.

How lucky. Very beautiful weather to be on top of the hill....wow ...nasi kandar feast after all the hard works.....

Very nice, hope you have a great time! 😊 The Penang hill funicular should also be running again, so that's kind of a relaxed activity too 😋
nasi kandar yummy 😋
So good! 😊

😂
Yes, hike in the morning. In the jungle it is humid. At night it is cold.
Yup, we have to stick to that plan next time! 😁
The “baby durian” you were pointing at was actually jack fruit. All the others you saw were durian.
Yeah, they look so similar 😅
I am very enjoy yours great video..
Thank you! 🙂
Hope you enjoyed the nasi kandar. One of the best.
Yeah it was so good 😋

Those Baby one's are actually Jack Fruit. 😊
Yeah they look so similar 😅
Penang is the best place for hiking in Malaysia. Welcome to Penang.
Thank you! 🙂
We don't have peaches in Malaysia, those fallen fruits were kuini, a type of mango.
Good to know, thanks! 😊

Takecare Zoe & Simon. Enjoy your travel here in Malaysia :)
I've never tried Nasi Kandar, but now I really want to - looks and sounds soo good! 😋
That really was one of the best things we've eaten 😁
In penang, it is the origin of nasi kandar an indian muslim cuisine. Other than hameediyah, there are others like line clear.
Nice video! Thank you for sharing 🙂
When to Bangladesh?
Thank you! We'd love to visit Bangladesh soon too! 🙂
@@ZoeandSimon we look forward..
The one Zoe picked up was actually the real durian
Local uncles and aunties start their hike at 6am to avoid the sun 😂
Hello friends, I am from Singapore & I enjoy travelling around the world. 😊 i have been to Penang a few times. I really enjoy visiting Penang. 💜
Hi to Singapore! We'd also love to go back to Penang (and Singapore too!) 😁

It's not a baby durian, but either jackfruit or maybe cempedak
Yes, they look very similar 😅
we are in penang now!
Nice, hope you have a great time! 😊
Do visit Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur on 31st August, 2022 bring your friends, UA-camrs and stream event huge celebration 🎉🥳🎉 crowds and fun...
Hope you can do daily or bi-daily video of details of your travel
We'll have to see if we can up the frequency of our uploads in the future, but at the moment one video per week is ideal for us 🙂
I just subscribed to your channel. 😊
Thanks for subscribing! 😊
@@ZoeandSimon Hope we could stay in touch. 😊
I think this is a good premise for a horror movie. White couple got lost in Penang hill and got haunted by a pontianak 😂
That is a tortoise. Turtles live in the sea guys.
Thanks yeah... we've got to work on our biology knowlege 😁
@@ZoeandSimon many westerners cannot differentiate it. I am surprise. Most will call it turtle. So far this year only 1 vlogger got it right.
Westerner called them turtles for both freshwater turtle and sea turtles...but in this region we call it tortoise for fresh water and turtles for sea water .tq
@@keangwooichoo6138 There is actually land turtle species which differs from tortoise and sea turtles. Tortoise has claw like feets.

@4:28 that's jackfruit, not durian
Yep, they look so similar! 😅
Goodbye why is there a crab on hill on a sunny day😭😭😭
Haha yeah that really is the biggest mistery! 😂 And we'll definitely be back! 🙂
Nope, that’s not Durian, it’s Jackfruit!
Yea, we only found out later, they look so similar 😁
That is Not durian. It is jack fruit.
Ah damn, they look so similar 😅
@@ZoeandSimon no. Durian in not so big and long. And definitely you cannot hold it in your hands like that. It is jack fruit.
Popadum is nothing to do with muslim. It's an Indian snack.
Yes! We mentioned it because the restaurant we were at is an Indian Muslim restaurant 🙂
@@ZoeandSimon Love the videos. Will be visiting KL next week. Just hope we get some dry days.
