Those fruits were certainly unusual Brett. I had seen the Jaboticaba on a few utube channels, growing in Florida, the fruit grows on the trunk of the tree. I had a quick google on the Kei Apple. A native to South Africa described as a famine food, taste ranging from sour to a sweet tangy flavour. Generally used in cooking but sugar added to make jams and fruit leather etc. Not sure what that purple fruit was though, thanks for sharing it was interesting to watch.
I was very excited to finally taste a jaboticaba. Hmmm no I don’t really think they taste like grapes. I think that’s autosuggestion playing tricks on the tastebuds because people have heard that said on videos plus the common name is Brazilian grape and of course they look very much like black grapes. I actually think the flesh was slightly melon like. To be fair tasting one small fruit that was picked at least a week ago probably wasn’t representative although thankfully it had fermented at all 👍
That was interesting. I remember seeing the Kei apple seeds on rarepalmseeds, but by the descriptions I read it sounded less than average so I didn't get any, glad I didn't 😅
Apparently they vary a lot from quite sour to quite sweet, if it’s a seedling I guess you don’t know what you will get. Probably worth planting if you had plenty of land in a subtropical climate 😁
Im from South Africa and know the Kei apple well - never liked it though cause i find the taste to be acidic and sharp, most use it in cooking/jams rather than eating it raw☺
Do you mean the jaboticaba Ian ? Most people I’ve seen eat them suck out the flesh and spit out the skin. I guess it’s perfectly edible but a bit tougher than some people like 😁
Nice selections of unique tropical fruits
Yes I hadn’t tried any of these before in my life 😁
That middle one definitely has loads of seeds.
Lol way too many for my liking 😂

It was the jaboticaba that really excited me as I’ve always wanted to taste one. It was very pleasant even though it wasn’t picked freshly of course
It's great that you got to try these unusual fruits, Brett! Would you say the Jaboticaba tastes like a grape, like a lot of people describe?

@@lyonheart84 key word here, PLENTY of land 😅
@TropicalGardeningCyprus lol yes exactly

Yes jam would be best as you could sieve the flesh to get rid of all those seeds 😂
The 3rd one looks a lot like a Burdekin Plum. They need to be bletted before eating.
Brilliant thanks Marisa , that’s exactly what it looks like 👍
The skin shouldn't be bitter if it's ripe. Skin can be sour, but I eat the skin as well.

Sorry yes the Jaboticabas. I’ve eaten dozens at a time and they were fine.
