  • The big trip is finally here. The Great Glen Canoe Trail is 60 miles of stunning canals and lochs in sublime heart of Scotland. Two men, two Kayaks and the Britain's best canoe trail in front of them. Can they do it?

Stunning mate. Enjoyed the slight different style of story telling. Gutted you didn't get to finish but you were right to call it quits. Just not worth risking it.

Great video! Did this trail over the weekend in a sea kayak. From Friday to Sunday. It was a great experience and definitely worth it, but had some very scary moments, as the weather was not as nice as this (the waves had white horses). Hope you guys get to finish it off someday 🛶

Stunning! Really enjoyed the story telling and graphics. I’ve never paddled with big boats like that, I can imagine it’s a bit unnerving at times. Cheers!

At least you had a crack! It's better than just talking about it, like many of do!

Good video. And good call on backing out of the bad weather. Its not worth the risk - Loch Ness can be lethal. We did the trail in a 17' canoe with our 3 kids, 2 years ago, and lucked out with fantastic weather for it - I have a video of the tripnif youre interested.

Well done to the pair of you John. Definitely the right decision to end the trip, l have seen loch Ness looking like a stormy sea when the wind picks up! Here's to you both finishing the trail in better conditions. Have you ever done the Spey?great multi day trip. Many thanks for sharing, exellent video.

Loch Ness is The Monster Lol, any gusting wind above 10mph and it's dicey in any kayak or canoe, I've been kayaking and fishing on Nessie for 30 + years and have had to bail on many an occasion, a composite or carbon fibre sea kayak is the best option on such big water, plastic is just too heavy when the winds in your face, it's most dangerous feature isn't limited to wave size either, it's also a very very cold water loch even in summer, a wetsuit isn't good enough IMO, unless you stick close to the shore, for me it's always a dry suit. Over 30 years and with hundreds of days on the Loch I've been dumped 4 times, you made the right call 100% , running out of energy with the wind in my face and 2 foot waves coming at me is my recurring nightmare. 95% of the people I meet on Nessie don't have enough experience/skill/fitness or the right equipment to tackle the Beast that is Nessie, so Kudos to you for having the sense to know when you were out of your depth.

I completed the full trip solo in 2.5 days. I had practiced/trained for large waves that i expected in loch Ness. maybe upgrade your kayak to a sea/touring kayak so you can go faster and longer distances. Great effort though. your video was a fond reminder of when i did it in 2019. You are better safe than sorry. Good one mate
