      I mentioned Lyft, only because I quit Uber almost 2 years a go, for many reasons. Uber is actually worse than Lyft. I tell Lyft that being better than Uber is not anything to be proud of, because it's nearly impossible to be worse. Where I am, no ride over $10 has any value, other than to get ONE SUCH RIDE to get to a busier area. Then, I set a 10 mile filter.

    If you look at the date and times you can tell this is a weekend trip during peak hours. So yes you can cherrypick but the window is so small that it's a strategy that works for 2 to 3 hours of the day on the weekend. In those two hours you can make $36-$40 an hour but then it will go right back to the same $22.

    I've noticed this in Pittsburgh. I started cherry picking when distance costs more than the ride. Lyft sent me a wake up text telling me to drive because I wasn't up. I'm not taking a ride in downtown Pittsburgh when it costs more time to get out due to construction than the ride pays. After a couple declines they send me something worth my time. I asked a guy yesterday what he was paying...$20 and some change and they gave him a discount of 10% because he hasn't done lyft in awhile...I was being paid $17 and some change. Surge and bonus hours are simply gratuity because honestly less than 5% tip. I don't even wait the full 5 minutes when it pays less than $10. I cancel the ride and move on.

    This advice seems highly specific to the LA market. As a Chicago driver, some of these "no brainer" trips are ones I would not accept here unless the drop off is somewhere I want to go, which is usually where the money is, or home if I'm done. If I'm already where the money is (in Chicago) I generally don't want any trips over about 2 miles. Sometimes even 2 miles is too far. And yet I don't hear any discussion about drop off locations and expected earnings in those locations vs. the pickup locations.

    Guys my experience in Philly is fewer cherries if decline it gets slow for me. What seems to be the case is they very per mile widely if a trip is averaging 20-23 miles per hour the pay is usually $1/ mile. Heavy traffic averaging 10-12 miles per hour trip pays $2-$2.75 or so. I’m including time & distance to rider. So for me I’m finding $23-$25/hr under most circumstances regardless of surges or boosts.

      algorithms are stupid as f for routing. I get an order for walgreens - im at walgreens. But its 5 walgreens away? I drive past 4 walgreen to get there. And there are over 100 uber drivers in that town that wouldve made sense for them to get the order> UBER SUX they are stupid as f and dont learn at all

    • @MasonLopez
      @MasonLopez 14 днів тому

      Because they want to create an illusion of "fast" turnaround. Riders suffer from brainrot. If they have to wait more than 30 seconds for a rider to accept the ride, they're likely to cancel the attempt and try Lyft. From Uber's perspective, a rider opening the Lyft app loses them money. So they simplistically tweak the algo to prioritize getting the fastest possible match and won't factor in driver distance from rider. They don't pay us for that, so it's considered our problem not theirs.
      Of course, anyone with half a brain is at this point saying "But Uber has an acceptance rate problem because of all this, and it's causing riders to get stuck waiting for rides. They've created the problem they think they're trying to avoid." And the answer is yup. That's why we get all the pressure to keep our acceptance rate up. They don't want to change the algorithm to work for us, they want to keep it the way it is, and then pressure us to drive for a loss. They want fast turnaround, and they want to do it in a way where we eat the cost. So until they're forced to change, they'll keep the algo as is, continue to point the finger at drivers and tell anyone who'll listen that it's the cherry picker's fault riders have to wait for their rides.

      @@TM-gd5is Technically this advice applies to slower markets as well, even with upfront pricing. I'm in Denver, and I have a much greater impact on my per hour rate with positioning vs straight up cherry picking. There is maybe 8 hours an entire week where true cherry picking has any impact.
      The truth about cherry picking is that if they're paying that kind of rate, they're not doing it for fun. There's traffic, a packed event, or something else that's going to drain your time and resources to fulfill the ride. You can cherry pick your heart out and still make 21 dollars an hour if you're not also being strategic and focusing on your positioning. I won't even take certain crazy looking rides if I'm not already in position to take advantage of it. In Denver the Ball Arena is the biggest trap, offering a dollar per minute to grab someone and take them to Narnia. The first time I "Cherry picked" one of those, I was dead heading back from Aurora doing some basic math and realized my cherry made me 23 dollars an hour, and double the normal miles on my car for the trouble.
      Honestly, unless you're in an amazing market, TM's advice is more valuable than cherry picking imo. Cherry picking obviously has a time and a place, and I agree with the sentiment in the video that Cherry Picking helps you learn to say No. But some of these comments trying to make it seem like Cherry Picking solves all the problems is just copium.

    In Atlanta. a 30 minute ride will pay you $15. No matter how you work the program, you lose. If you accept every ride, most pay $.3.00, you won't make any money. If you only accept the higher paying rides, they send you fewer rides, and you won't make any money. IT'S S A SCAM, AND SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!

      If you are accepting trips without upfront details then Uber has WON! You are demonstrating to them that they can manipulate you into accepting whatever crap they want to send you. Keep declining any fares without details and I bet you will find that they will straighten up and start sending you upfront details again and do this even if your acceptance rate tanks to 10-15%. They try this with me and I hit the decline so fast my fingers are burning, and my acceptance rate is 18%. Also have Lyft open and work that too.

    I am a new driver, just 3rd day, and noticed that my "acceptance rate" is 19%. My questions are: 1) Does this really matter, 2) i am presented with trip requests while I am in the middle of another ride and so just ignore those requests. I presume this is leading to a lower acceptance rate. How can I turn that off? As for the others that I purposely deny, I am not taking ANY ride that doesn't pay at least $1 per combined mile (distance to pick up and distance to drop off), isn't that reasonable?

    • @smartin684
      @smartin684 3 місяці тому

      Acceptance rate doesnt really matter, they use that to scare you into "oh I better take whatever comes my way or they will put me in time out" I congratulate you on your 19% acceptance rate because that means that you filtering out the crap rides. On the app you can swipe up and go "offline" by hitting the red button. I do this on all my rides because there is nothing more dangerous than driving in heavy traffic and the trip radar just keeps pinging while driving. There is a good Uberpeople forum where you can get some good advice for being a new driver and you will gain some insight as to what other drivers are going through.

    I guess I need to learn a strategy because I followed cherry picking method and it got my score so low they will not raise me back up and I called and they use my score as the excuse for sorry rides like 4.64 even during rush hr and they hide surge time on screen if I cherry pick now I MAY see $14. - 15. for still longer time but all the rest after that will be sorry like 7.67 including surge during rush hr time then because I'm not excepting it's taking my score down even more and it's been impossible to raise because they take away quickly but it takes two days of excepting every ride to raise it even 1 Point I haven't cancelled a ride in two weeks and they've only moved it 4 points down and when I do ok like 100 in 3.5 hrs because it was busy and they couldn't play games they slow me way down to keep me from earning another 100. I use to make 300. or a bit more doing 12 & a little over the 12 hrs now I can barely get 200 and then I've gotta eat and put gas in the rental freaking car that I have to pay 330 every seven days for its killing me so I definitely need some pointers

    Thanks for the reminder of cherry picking! Please kindly do a video about the downfall of Share ride. I never take them anymore unless its surged and going a few short miles and I stop requests so I'm not pinged on anyone else, but I did a $25 share that went a few miles this morning, forgot to turn off (rush hour) and two others got added on (ugh!). I did it just to get it over with, but the third rider ran late. As I was about to cancel, he came out. Same pickup for all 3 ppl who didn't know each other, so I didn't have to grab the other two.
    I no longer do share for a variety of reasons, but if you did a video, you guys can explain your perspective
    - Too many riders often
    - They don't understand that its 2mins only
    - They don't understand that they can't edit the trip or hop out someplace else (one person did that out of the 3 today, but I still drove to her dropoff, so if the complains I have her on camera saying she wants to get out)
    - They can't have bags! LOL! Picked up a girl who had two luggage, I told her if I pick up two other ppl with luggage, no one has space. You do realize this is common sense when ordering a Share, right? It's on Uber's own website under Share to order an UberX if you have luggage
    Also, Boston Market here... many of the previous Share riders tell me that it takes a looong time to be matched to a driver. I tell them the reasons drivers don't do Share, and they agree, yet they are still requesting Share.

    I love your videos. However, in my market, we don’t have upfront pricing and the problem is to reach gold level. You have to have an 85% or greater acceptance rate. So you have to basically accept every ride they send you. With a few exceptions. I get rides that are 20 minutes away and the ride is, eventually only five minutes or less. It’s a tough way to work, but getting a gold or diamond is the only logical way to keep driving.

  • @DelaneyStudios
    @DelaneyStudios 3 місяці тому +1

    Uber sends lower paying rides to older vehicles. every time I enter a high paying area, I will eventually get a second ride, maybe a third, but always, the next ride removes me from the area.
    Whenever I drive in a 3-5 dollar area (to raise my qty) they always send me a ride out of the area. Also, I notice I habitually receive very long distance rides. I have spoken with them about this but they wouldn't acknowledge it. Originally we had a long distance button, but they only provide uber-x 1 button now. I constantly receive compliment on my vehicle, I keep is clean and polished. It is not banged up either.
