Just got mine with the elmax dagger blade and its absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't put oil anywhere near it though. It would seriously gum up the action even if you never carried it and if you did carry it, it would be a mess of oily dirt and pocket crap in the tracks, killing the glassy smoothness. The exo just doesn't need oil. A q-tip and some rubbing alcohol is all you need for cleaning. Otherwise keep it dry. Cheers 🍻
Agreed, if it need lube it needs dry lube or graphite like any auto otf.
I consier myself very lucky to score one of these (tanto blade burlap micarta) back in March of this year. It is so fidgety and so EDC-able. One of the best in my modest collcection.
I bought a second Zircuti Exo-M from Crane’s cutlery. My reasoning was something along the lines of your recent 229 video about buying multiples of the same knife so you actually use and carry one. I really didn’t need two of these, but boy are they fun.
It just need a flush screw on the pocket clip. Knife binds up on pocket seam and doesn’t allow to sit flush. Also an update with locking switch maybe spring autolock. Maybe a simple button press to open and when let go it auto locks.
I just picked one up! It's been bothering me daily and finally broke haha but j got the Cranes Cutlery limited Timascus version. Thank you for planting the seed.. my first Reate brand knife!
Thanks for sharing bud! At first I wasn’t interested in it but the more I see videos on it and the price being good I may have to check it out now.
Im so tired of looking for this knife. I’ve spent nearly 9 months looking for it to be in stock, particularly as I’m not on the USA, it’s practically impossible to find even imported. Every time I look whenever it’s posted on a video or comment, it’s always out of stock, it’s not like I’m not keeping an eye.. i check constantly. I’m fairly sure at this point reate are just not making enough of these as I’ve never had any issues with any getting any other knife as a collector outside the usa.
i think it will restock pretty soon like june/july or something like that, not 100% sure tho
Bladehq has em right now
Check NC knives they have some if not most in stock
Hey dude I found one on Amazon for $51 I cam send you the link I'd you want
True talon in australia is really helpful and they have new stock
I’m glad I have the Elmax of that knife coming in the mail. My first OTF.
Totally agree with you on the price! If you take it apart you can clearly see its 2 different pieces of integral pieces if Ti. Show me another integral Ti at this pricepoint
I love this knife. The lock almost seems unnecessary as it’s not going anywhere when you’re gripping it. Having said that, I am glad they added the lock. I wish they had some additional options to the micarta like the original has. Maybe they’ll add that later. The only issue is that I really wanted to pinch grip it and then shake it side to side while sneaking up on my adversary. 😂
You can't carry the version without a lock unless you keep it in the sheath provided or it will open in your pocket.
I got this same knife in ELMAX and I love it! I got the red/black gmascus and had it for a couple of months before I noticed that it matches matches my Kimber 1911 so well it looks like I bought them as a set! It makes very satisfying sounds when it deploys and retracts, it's impossible not to fidget with, and it razor sharp. I will say I took it apart and very lightly lubricated it with gun oil and it slowed WAY down. So I disassembled, cleaned it up, tried KPL, same thing. Finally tried KPL dry lubricant and that is definitely the way to go with this knife. Skip the oil. This immediately became a favorite EDC for me. I was surprised by how easy it is to deploy and retract, and it's so aesthetically pleasing I could frame it and hang it on the wall, but a knife this great needs to be used
I passed on these for a long time because I thought it was a novelty. NOW I edc the bigger original version with no lock & love it! I always belt carry my folders anyway & a local leather smith made me a sheath that works great!
Taking orders at Blade Ops. Ordered this very one earlier this morning after received a text from them. Will ship out by 7/15/23. I recommend getting it while it lasts.
Love mine, but gotta say, that eventually I stripped my screws that hold the lock puck to the blade. And no response from Reate yet 😢
CPM 3V makes a lot of sense, I think they were worried about the blade rattling around might chip something like M390. Although, Magnacut would be wonderful in this design.
What looks like “extra steps” to you looks like combining steps to me.
You don’t have to press a lock every time you open most other knives, but I kind of look opening the handle the same time you press the button as 1 single step.
And that closing mechanism doesn’t seem so bad.
The unlock mechanism on most knives change.
Sounds more comfortable to repeat the same simple move twice than 2 different moves twice
So it looks to me anyway.
Sadly I'm canadian. Id love to edc this knife. People complain too much. If you look hard enough you can always find flaws
I just ordered one from smkw today in a Elmax drop point blade. Known about the original exo for a while wanted one but realized I couldn’t pocket carry it, but now with the exo-m I can only downer with what your saying is im a lefty.
Recently picked one of these up for myself for Christmas (Elmax Drop point, black micarta), coming from mostly benchmade folding knives this thing had some serious "fidget factor" as you stated. I thought that would wear off and I would be annoyed with the slow mechanism, but no, you can flick this thing open so quickly it is awesome. I have been carrying this thing every hour every day and I love it, legality of carrying is questionable in my state but more of a grey area hopefully I dont run into any trouble. Great review!
What size did you get the mini of regular size and which would you recommend and where did you get that one
@@jackharrison9756 I ordered off of a Canadian website and had it shipped to the US, thankfully with no issue. I couldn't find them in stock anywhere else. I have the regular size, I think the original REATE exo was larger than the one I have, then they made the regular size and the mini. As far as I am aware they dont sell or produce any of the original size (largest), only the mini and the regular Reate EXO. I think the regular size is the perfect sizing for carrying, maybe even a little short on the blade length so I definitely wouldnt order the mini personally. Im still very happy and it is still holding a great edge 2 months on, so I definitely recommend if you can own it legally.
Also despite numerous hours at this point sitting at my desk "fidgeting" Ive only had one incident of slicing my hand. Minor cut thankfully, and totally worth it.
i got the tanto version and i absolutely love it and edc it a few times a week. just to let u know the piece that holds the blade in is actually steel. i thaught it was ti but i checked it with a magnet after taking it apart bc i wanted to anodize it and it sticks to it. love the videeos keep up the good work!
This knife is on my list to snag at Blade Show.
I just ordered one of the aluminum versions at BladeHQ. I bought it for the fidget factor but depending on how this video ends I may try it as a work knife.
Dude I wish they would make a 4.5” or 5” version of this knife. I love the one I just bought
Also with the rattle and blade play it has to be like that or the action just wouldnt work its how the knife has to function or it wouldn’t slide in and out
I prefer the original with the leather slip, it's bigger. & I definitely can't figure out why people are concerned with it not locking WHEN YOUR NOT HOLDING IT...? When you hold the orginal it's completely locked & when your not it goes in the slip. I think the lock completely kills the idea of being a gravity knife not to mention that will be the only thing to quit working!
I kind of disagree with that. Although I will say that the original one "needing" a lock was probably unnecessary to begin with, but the new one having the lock feature does absolutely nothing to infringe upon the user experience. I mean, can you not just forgo the entire lock and operate it like it wasn't there to begin with? Yes you can; however it is there for people who do decide that they want to utilize it. And for everyone else, the thing operates exactly like the original. Just don't flip the lock switch if you don't want to use it, simple as that.
This way it does not open in your pocket and stab you in the leg or whatever. I have no problem with the lock you can use it or not but makes Carrie friendly. I’m not worried about locking and unlocking a knife that’s why you carry a gun lol
Thats a neat knife. I really like the changes they made from the original except for reducing the size.
people sure do love this thing....
I wish I understood why this knife is listed as sub $100 on Blade HQ but no price is actually listed but says price coming soon!
Man. You could totally be Jack Black with knives and I wouldn't doubt it one bit
Zircuti Inlay exo m just dropped on Crane's Cutlery
I have a Reate Exo, and my only complaints were that it didn't have a pocket clip and a lock.
The Reate Exo-M solves this problem. I think the size makes more sense for carry too.
Now I have both.
Does the the Dagger Exo-M have a double sharpened edge? (Or is that just the "bayonet" type of blade)
@@phlooke The dagger style is dual edge
hey! how smooth did you find the locking switch? just got mine and it feels a little crunchy but not sure if that's how all of them are or not
@@aercry Take it apart and clean it is my go to advice
SUPER surprised that the Bayonet version is the last to sell out on Cranes, I picked it up from your plug on the live, but it makes the most sense, its an OTF... why not!
THANKS MC‼️
"Letting the fidget factor wear off". 👍👍🔪
I recently got a budget knife, was kinda stoked about it waiting for the release. Got it used it, came back to it the next day. Really don't care for it now. 😂🤔 Take care.
Ive been waiting for this one
Just got a exo-m.... Wow! I can't put it down, it's soooooo addictive!!! Loves it so much I bought the full size/ OG version now with the lock. One of my favorites for sure!
Which one do you like better? Im torn between the og exo or the exo-m. Does the og feel a bit cumbersome compared to the m?
I’ve been waiting patiently for the restock of these , but realised it’s not going to work for me (lefty) thank you for pointing it out , time to wait to see if they make a left hand version 🤞
I would be interested what your thoughts would be on tacknives OTF, reading through their website they seem very transparent about what they are doing. Sourcing parts and putting it all together here in the USA. I have been eyeing their TK pro Hornet with 154cm blade material for $169.
This is one of my favorite in my collection
Well, this was what I needed, I wanted one next to a para 3(my perfect size knife) to make up my mind. I'm getting one.
Great knife but wish I bought the drop point instead. I have the dagger so if anyone want to trade dagger for drop point? 🙂 🤔
I'd never own a double edged knife they seem completely impractical as a working or edc knife, I like to be able to push on the back of the blade with my thumb for more power when carving or cutting something tough, obviously with a double edged blade it would cut your finger/ thumb,
My next knife 💯💯thxsss for the recommendation 💯 going to be a keeper
The blade looks like you could flip it. Can you? Like if I was a lefty and wanted the sharp point to face the other direction when I drew it?
If I was using the smaller side to open it and wanted the sharp side facing down.
If you haven't tried yet, you can 100% flip it if you need to.
Thats a coll aspect of it. I just gotta make up my mind now. They have this straight edge/razor/coping blade, but it doesn't have a clip so I am turned off on that
@@47pawspa
im waiting to buy a second exo m already
I didn’t realize this was coming out and they’re all out of stock right now. I’m going to be designing my own copy of this because it’s completely unavailable to buy and because I can.
Still sad that these are banned where I live.
I really regret not getting one of these when I was at Blade Show. Maybe by next year Reate will have the larger one with the lock.
Blade show is in Atlanta this weekend! Might pick one up
Cranes just dropped the Zircuti version
Everything you said they should do they did do except the bigger one probably on the way tho
Do they come with authentication certificate, my Exo -K did does anyone know
my exo-m doesn't rattle like yours. Mines is far more quieter.
Outstanding knife
Just ordered a tanto version in elmax looking foward to getting it
Did they fix the screw on the pocket clip.
It isn’t flush but it doesn’t really affect it
So nice. Really want one but its out of my range for now. Maybe one day.
Yeah im gonna need this
In NY they made gravity knifes legal but daggers are illegal
There are other blade shapes
Always carry dagger in nyc daily 😂
@@whatsthemonsterbelow im mean...
@@jeromes5834 i plan on getting one
Its just the whole dagger law as with most knife laws are stupid
Really hoping they offer some in a nice stainless like 20cv or magnacut.
They now offer it in ELMAX
LOL, your rattle shpeel had me ROFL!!!
They should make a Cali legal one 1.99in blade
Isn't that law only for autos?
@@JimCyanide California Penal Code Section 17235 legally describes a "switchblade knife" as a knife with an appearance of a pocketknife with a blade two or more inches that can be released automatically with a flick of a button, pressure on the handle, or just a flip of the wrist.
There are many types of other knives that would qualify a switchblade, such as a:
gravity knife,
spring blade knife,
butterfly knife, and
batanga knife
No they shouldn't. Move out of "cali" tu pac
The money it would cost to buy it you could buy a bus ticket to Arizona and save up and get a full size one
@@PR0F3T69 buying it isn't the issue, I have friends in the military that could buy a full size one for me, and I travel a lot I don't need to buy a bus ticket. Carrying it is the issue, especially since I'm a truck driver and could randomly get stopped at the scales and search any day of the week.
The state I live in has zero issue with blade length, gravity knives, daggers, etc. and yet has a zero tolerance for automatic knives of any kind 🤦♂️
Dumb.
To be honest with you I like the knife it is and she said a really good knife. But the back corner of the frame does take into your hand
He said damn speak to text bit me again lol
Just getting into knives and have some disposable income. Yet you can't buy any of the cool stuff.
I hope they go back to a better rust resistant steel with future generations. They went from Elmax to 3V. I don't think 3V is the right steel to use. That's a hard use steel. I wouldn't use this to baton a log 😂.
I love mine….except for that stupid pocket clip screw. Man does it snag on your pants on not sit all the way down
unfortunately all gravity knifes are completly illegal in Germany....
This thing rattles worse than an Arizona Diamondback.. I held one yesterday, and from my personal experiences of collecting knives for 8 years now, it felt like junk, not going to lie. I wouldn't justify purchasing this knife, I would rather defend the Benchmade Narrows, yea it's slim, and it's smooth too. The price tag is an abomination though. Benchmade broke our bones on that one for sure but they always have. I know they're different knives, but I had to mention the Benchmade in case whoever is reading this comes up with the stupid:"just say you're broke" line whenever I'm honest about a knife 😂 which always cracks me up.
Noice
I want one but no way I can afford it
Illegal in the same states 8 yr olds can purchase 36 inch aluminum bats…
Complex. I don’t get OTF’s. Is it fidget factor? I’m not being sarcastic. If I want to fidget I’ll get some bubble wrap. OTF’s just don’t seem practical like my Maverick or Spyderco native or Hinder skinny ect.
😂😂😂 lmao on the rattle hold
Oil actually made mine considerably worse
Sounds like you used the wrong stuff.
Not fit for fighting
Nope!
The original exo was the absolute perfect size . So logically , they update the knife with a pocket clip and a lock ( both very tasteful ) , and then they reduce the size enough to make it look absolutely freaking retarded like a midget dwarf exo design for guys that have little baby girl hands
