Tom Crites was a victim of that twice during the 1993 season, finishing fifth but not being able to play on TV due to the King Of The Hill bouncing the fifth qualifier off TV. Interestingly, Crites quit the Tour that same season and bowling altogether for quite some time.
Watching this match- the final game- for the first time since it was originally aired I thought I had remembered Parker Bohn winning it. So I was delighted that Branham won, had no idea that he had ever won the Firestone Tournament of Champions. I had thought he had lost another heartbreaker. Did he ever win again?
The way Parker was bowling in the 1st 2 games it looked like he was a lock to win it. But he cooled off substantially that allowed George to win it. George deserved it though because he bowled great all week.
Totally agree 110%!!! OVERKILL!!!!! What got on my nerves about it is same people winning ALL the time!!! I was sick n tired of Ron Williams winning 3/4 of the time, especially if he wasn't involved with the telecast. In such cases, he basically unfairly benefitted from the tournament winner already being mentally exhausted after the victory. Likewise, Ballard had no business winning against Pete Weber at the IOF, especially when he DELIBERATELY threw a gutter ball once he had the match won. And why couldn't they set it aside for a week and have respect for such a prestigious tournament such as this so all 4 NORMAL matches can be bowled!!!!! They handled the "King of the Hill" concept much better in 1997 by limiting it to only 4 weeks.

Back during a time when a person's skin color wasn't an issue whatsoever. Now it's more of an issue than anything and it shouldn't be. Wish we could go back to those days where someone's skin color was irrelevant.
So glad someone finally posted this tournament on UA-cam.
The best years old pba bowling
This is the only ToC we didn't watch live or have on tape 1988 thru 1995. Thanks for the upload
Probably the last one that Firestone sponsored the Tournament of Champions. Miss calling it "the Firestone".
@@rockvilleraven 94 TOC was general tire, 95 moved to Illinois and was the Brunswick world TOC
Del's and George's light hearted banter in the King of the Hill Match is what makes our sport so special. Ballard is a riot. LOL 😆
I hated when they did king of the hill . It also took away from the possible 5 th seeded player to miss the telecast .
My sentiments exactly!! See my reply to Habyss.
This one was entertaining though
I never liked it like you said it didn't let a deserving player in the step ladder finals
