Good info. Couple of things: What is the fluid capacity of the transmission. After you topped this off, was it difficult to determine the fluid level? (Dipstick misreading due to residual fluid in the downspout)
Good question! Leave the car idling and in park and use a funnel to pour transmission fluid down the dipstick tube. Be sure to use correct fluid for your car! After adding a little bit, run the car through the gears as you did when checking it, and then check the level. Add more in small increments and repeat the process until full.
If I’m not mistaken, that would be either your manual transmission oil level for a manual, or the differential oil level. www.subaruforester.org/attachments/na-sg-motor-jpg.25481/
Can I ask, if it has a cold measurement, why can’t we just read it with the engine off, and use that measure. I’m just not a car person (or a tall one) so it makes me nervous leaning over the engine whilst it’s on.
Fair question. The best time for a reading is when the car has been driven for a few minutes. However, there is a cold line on the dipstick, and yes, you can use that for a reading when the engine is cold. However, it may be inaccurate, and that could lead to you having too much or too little transmission fluid in your car.
Because when the car is stopped oil drips into the pan from the torque converter. Without the engine running you will get a higher inaccurate reading. When the engine is running oil is taken up by the torque converter.
Tengo entendido que el exceso de líquido de transmisión solo puede ocurrir cuando está demasiado lleno. Si se llena demasiado, el líquido adicional debería salir por el respiradero, pero no causará problemas con el 4x4. My understanding is that excess transmission fluid can only happen when it is overfilled. If overfilled the extra fluid should push out of the vent, but will not cause 4x4 issues.
The purpose of the video was showing how to check the transmission fluid levels, as the title states. At 4:35 I explain what to do if your fluid level is low.
Very helpful and easy to follow, thanks man
Thanks! I’m happy this helped.
Excellent video. Thank you for the video. Good job!
Thank you! I appreciate the support.

Thanks for watching!
It’s my understanding that the capacity is 9.8 quarts.
After topping off, I let it sit for a moment to let the fluid subside.
how did you "top it off"? just guess and pour some fluid down the dipstick tube? what if you add too much?

if my dipstick shows low cold, like in the video, to add more atf he engine should be idling?
Yes, let the engine run for 2-3 minutes and then too it off.

@@nickl2548when using the cold marks the engine still needs to be running, it's just not up to operating temps.
Thanks sir 💞

Hola

Que puede producir exceso de aceite de transmisión?
Puede producir error en la tracción 4x4?

So not showing how to fill it?

Am I the only idiot that is sitting here like why didn't you show us the part where you topped it off.
If you ask nicely, I can clearly explain how to add fluid levels.
Simple.....
thank you !
You’re welcome, glad it helped!
