THE END OF BABY BIRD SAGA AND EXCITING NEWS 🦅

- Cuddling Cats Kwazi, Uli, and Ginger Grrrl discovered a baby chick on our lane. We've spent a week caring for him when it started raining quite a bit. We kept the baby under our eave but his box got wet on the bottom. W,e gave him a new box on a platform of bricks. THEN, the deluge began.
Torrential rains battered parts of Oahu, inundating several roads, flooding vehicles and triggering landslides on major roads.
We had to take quick action. We moved baby to a plastic tub, on a table under our outdoor umbrella. Despite the fact that the tub had been a kitty litter box, his mom continued to feed and care for him.
About the time the umbrella started leaking, we heard back from the Hawaii Bird Rescue! (We had written them the week before.) Katherine the Bulbul expert was coming out to check on the chick! She drove out in that rainy weather and determined that the chick's leg would need to be amputated. However, she has an area for chicks and birds to rehabilitate. She brought the chick with her and will care for him until if and when he is able to fly and fend for himself. His mom seemed happy to be able to focus on just the chicks still in the next.

🐈 - Ginger is our formerly feral cat who started hanging around our neighborhood. This tiny toughie moved into our home in August 2021 and now our third 100% time indoor kitty.

Bless both of you for watching over the dear little soul. I had hoped his momma would have been able to fly away with him, but under such circumstances it’s best he’s taken care of by the bird conservation program until he’s ready to leave. thank you for all your effort in saving the sweet baby bird! You went above and beyond to give this bird every chance to survive and so did his momma. I'm so relieved to hear the bird rescue will be taking care of him.
