    If you trained any martial arts you know that feeling of going up against the coach or a more experienced teammate in sparring as a begginer. My kickboxing coach would do nothing but a jab and a low kick just to keep me in check and see how I respond and only do some bigger moves/combinations when I made a mistake. It felt like there was nothing i could do to even get a good hit in, he always had my timing down and his defense was almost perfect. He wasn't hurting me or anything, it was always just light playful sparring but I was getting my ass jabbed to death everytime 😂

    Man, I think this is one of your best videos yet. So informative and your analysis is done in a way that makes sense really intuitively. I've been playing a long time and like to think I'm not bad, but I feel like this is going to completely change my perspective on neutral. Even though I've been watching Knee do this for years, I've missed a lot without carefully considering each interaction. Your passion is obvious and infectious and your content is some of the best in the community. Thanks for having cool shit to say, man. I'll keep listening

    Watching this reinforced one thing for me. Never show an experienced opponent the same look over and over, bad habit of mine as an intermediate level player. Just take a moment to breathe and assess. In knee's case, he's always poking at you, not giving u time to think and making reads based off on how u react to pressure. Awesome stuff

    That type of thing is amazing in whatever context be it games, sports or anything else. Where people who are so good at what they do they've truly mastered "basic" things, without even trying are comfortably better than basically anyone else you've ever seen using only foundational things. Nothing fancy, no secrets, no magic tricks, raw skill, experience and capitalising on mistakes you make (whether self inflicted or set up) that make you see the gap between people who are "good" and the absolute elite. It's very humbling to have all of your deficiencies immediately pointed out and exploited by the best. It gives you a great perspective, new appreciation and new aims to learn and improve as much as possible because you now know how much room to grow you have

    Great vid, love to see content that reflects on not just Knee being good (obviously, he is) but on WHY he's so good, through the language of a player who's on a high enough level that they're able to explain just why playing against him feels so particularly suffocating. So refreshing to see it spelled out through experience.

  • @Sadbringer
    @Sadbringer 8 місяців тому +6

    I actually can relate to what you were talking about when you mentioned "immature offence" or something like that. I play many PVP games mostly casually nowadays, but in a couple of games where I did play less casually I had the same feeling where you're in a 50/50 situation against a weaker or less experienced player, and 99% of those 50/50 situations within the set were obvious to me as a stronger player. Like, techincally it was 50/50 but practically I just knew what my opponent was going to do because my assumptions based on the choices of the opposing player were almost always correct.
    I seldom get that feeling anymore. 😔

  • @temetyly
    @temetyly 8 місяців тому +5

    This was a lot of fun. I really like that concept of immature offense and defense, for both tekken and actual martial arts - having seen tons of situations and thought processes in the clutch Is something you can't fake, but at least being mindful that you're a basic b*tch lol means we can maybe at least take a few steps in 'maturing' quicker without having access to that experience yet, being mindful of what you're showing and revealing of your intentions, and whether they're gonna be prepared for those intentions.
    This vid had me so excited about Tekken.

  • @DarkestKNIGHTCJH

    Knee's ability to squeeze space and create constant pressure is shown so clearly here. I feel like Knee didn't really make full use of Feng's more dangerous options until he feels he can/should to make the series end faster, there were very few shoulders in the beginning and a strong focus on what amounts to the footsie game, and I think this term is important because he's not jabbing to poke you out, he's jabbing to control the space and force a specific response and it becomes apparent as the series goes on that Knee starts hard reading much harder based on information he got from the more basic movements he did early on in the series. Particularly around series 3 I think is the breakpoint imo where Knee generally doesn't back off anymore and stays so close that you are forced to decide faster and faster which makes it more susceptible to being hard read.
    I disagree on the "noob" part as well, you're up against one of the best of the best in the business, I think it's hard not to look bad compared to them, especially in Tekken where so much of the game is based around information and situations you are familiar with. Thank you for sharing what amounts to a replay review with us. Good luck with your Tekken journey, I for one am definitely enjoying all the content you're putting out. 😄

      Generally-speaking you want to keep things as simple as possible, as long as the gameplan works. The more things you need to do the more effort you need to put in, thus increasing the chance of an error. I'm agreeing with you, I just wanted to mention why Knee wasn't using Feng's more dangerous options. It wasn't about "making the series end faster", it was about consistency.

    this Knee's Jab video (t 5 version) is a good analysis which shows how good Knee is in understanding the character's strength. But on the flip side, it should also be noted that Bryan, Steve and probably Nina were cheap due to their i8 jab (Same as the T7 DLC characters with enhanced fundamental tools and movement). That's the part of T5 history which gets forgotten. Also, it should also be noted that the part of Knee's strength as a competitor has more often than not been in selecting the cheapest options.

    Really? You needed to play the guy to realize just how good he is? That tells me you have quite a bit to learn about Tekken. Also keep in mind he looks worse in tournaments, cause he's playing much better players than you, it's not just jet lag and not being home or w/e. I have this friend that's kinda new to Tekken, but I still play with him a lot, trying to teach him. I utterly destroy him, right. But then I played another guy, who was on my level, still beat him fairly consistently, yet my friend who was watching the matches went "man, you didn't really do much against this guy, he whooped your ass".
    P.S: Not trying to throw shade at your personal Tekken level or whatever, it's just something I've noticed throughout all Tekken skill levels and competitive games in general. People don't quite get how much better players considerably above their skill level actually are.

    Every now and again in T7 I'd get 10-0d but some TGO but I would learn _so_ much in that time. Always ensured I did the same when playing against lower ranks too. The forced BO3 makes consistent high level competition much harder now.

    Knee is so ridiculous when he plays against no/low risk games (like rank match or fun matches), but top 8, he's so recluse, and only plays safe moves, ultimately getting beat out.
    It's like JDCR, watch him play rank, amd he's so good. But watching him in top 8... he literally lets people get him from 90% to 0% while the opponent has 1%, just because he's so afraid to do anything despite having a huge lead.

    Can I make a request/suggestion? You use a lot of jargon that is common to you (at least, I've never heard of some of these terms before your channel). Things like;
    "putting hitboxes out there"
    "jousting"
    "coverage"
    "giving them attack timings"
    "control"
    Obviously some are intuitively grasped but I see a lot of beginners/intermediate, me included, who would appreciate knowing for sure what exactly you mean sometimes. If you're gonna do beginner videos when T8 drops anyways, a dedicated video to some of the common lingo you use and ultimately, concepts you regularly employ and reference could be gold for newcomers to your channel and just high level Tekken in general.

    Great video, love the breakdowns. Your point about Knee not going low if you're not giving him a reason to risk going low is a great point. I feel like 99% of players would just go low as part of their flowchart, so it's cool to see a great example of Knee adjusting his game plan based on what the opponent was showing him and keeping it minimum risk.

      Not for the majority of players. I have a group of friends who are all TGPs and they'll learn nothing if they played Knee. I mean, I know that for a fact.

      @@SlCKNESS_ rank doesnt mean anything , when u can fight who u want too , and dodge who u dont want

    • @SlCKNESS_
      @SlCKNESS_ 8 місяців тому

      @@DEUSVULT822 That's only true up to a point. Yes, Rank is largely meaningless, because you can just avoid playing people you can't beat consistently. But it's not entirely pointless. It still takes some effort and skill to get to the highest rank, regardless if you avoided all the "good" players or not.
      The point I was trying to make with my previous comment was that there's a massive difference between the highest ranked players in the game and the highest skill level of players in the game, even though the majority of Tekken players are not the highest rank in the game. And the difference being so massive means having the ability to play against Knee doesn't mean that much.

      100% agree with you, this style speaks more to me as a long time Street fighter player where pokes,block strings and patience plays a huge role so when i started implementing what i saw here it felt natural and like you mentioned i was more focused, defense increased and stopped fishing for big hits
