Good review. …As always, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. IMO, try as many as you can and buy one you like to play, not one that you like the name of. It’s always about the music! I have a 70’s CV HSS and tbh it’s not the guitar that limits my playing.
Hello John I’m really thinking of buying the fsr 70s in vintage white, man it looks sooo coool , can you please make a video about it if possible? it would be really cool, thanks always for the demo and videos
I've only played the older Vintage Modified models, and they are great guitars BUT the neck doesn't feel like a Fender. I don't know what it is, it feels a bit rounder and it could also be the fret size.. but it just doesn't feel like a Fender, so it kinda becomes off putting when I play them. It looks like a Fender, sounds like one - but does not feel like one. Great instruments though so if you're not a snob like me (hey, one of my favorites is an Affinity Strat) and just want a nice looking Strat, then these Squiers are amazing.
Small consolation, at least that CV honkin' big 70s headstock doesn't have the ridiculous shiny chrome knob (truss adjuster) sticking out like era guitars.
Great review, John. I was well impressed by your opening jam: beautifully composed to show off what the guitar can do (unlike some demonstrators who always end up playing the same licks...). looking forward to the Sire/CV comparison - my daughter could end up with one for Christmas. It'll probably be the Sire, but we'll see.
Really showed off the range of this HSS Squier. These guitars keep going up in price as they improve slightly in quality. I think we'll find in the shoot out that the extra 100 pounds is money well spent. Another interesting video.
Great review and playing, John 👍🏻 I know you have mentioned before in previous vids, but can you remind me which software FX that is that you are using, plse? Cheers! 🎸
I thought you were Walking in the Rain at the beginning...with a slight detour Way on Down South in London Town but then you kinda drifted into a Rock on your own Terms...
I am still a massive G&L fan and have a Legacy Tribute Series Strat that you will have to fight me viciously to get it from me. As I was watching, I thought of the Fender Mex Tele I have which is so under used I would call it mint, so I may try to sell and replace with maybe with an ASAT or a nice acoustic. If you can give me any advice , I would be grateful. The Tele has a hard case available too.
I agree wih John regarding the large CBS headstock, it just looks hideous. I have a Squire Classic Vibe all gold Strat, and with a few upgrades it is a good guitar, but as others have said, the price of these guitars is now too high. Fender prices have gone up to the point that they are too expensive for me. Other brands offer guitars that are just as good but at more sensible prices.
Nothing bad about those sounds at all, I guess it all comes down to how it feels and plays, and if you're on a rowing team you might even use that Squier headstock as an oar 🤣 I also think I heard a hint of "The Shadows" influence in that piece there...btw, here's me playing my Harley Benton Fusion II HSH a bit if anyone wants to have a laugh: ua-cam.com/video/fB2gJhiMBQ4/v-deo.html Very happy with the guitar so as for superstrats I am well served
So, if I was to sink a bit of cash into a new Strat would I be better off with the CV or a Player... or something else? (Not the Larry Carlton, had one for a week but sent it back, we just never gelled).
I had the 50's CV and ended up throwing it on a player. The CV was a nice guitar, I just couldn't get used to the tall narrow frets. I also use other guitars which all have medium jumbo frets, and I felt like every time I picked up the strat I had to go through a "get used to it again" period. If it was the only guitar I had I'm sure it wouldn't have been an issue. I'm delighted with the player series and I feel my moneys been well spent. If you can afford the player then go for it, it's a guitar that you could keep for years if you want. If the budgets a bit tight then the CV range are a good option if you can push the headstock snobbery factor to the back of your mind.

I played a sire larry carlton h7 the 335 copy. Was absolutely amazing
Great playing and a great axe! Definitely not a beginner or intermediate guitar alone.

@Tom Griffiths... What he said 👍
Do you think it sounds as good as a Mexican fender?
Pretty much. Although I prefer the neck on the Fender
GAK sell these -when they're in stock - for £250 ish. A lot of guitar for the money IF you want Fender somewhere on the headstock.
well balanced?
fk noze... is this in english
The chinese made ones will increase or even if you buy secondhand you wont lose any money.
Baggage scale.
