Composite order was used in the main vaulted Tepidarium in the Thermae of Diocletian in Rome. This was the only full section of the Baths to survive. Michelangelo converted the structure into a Church without altering the original orders because he understood that the action would preserve what was left of the structure. Your work is beautiful...thanks for posting.
I used to cast corinthian and doric capitols out of casting plaster and have fitted many over the years and would often think about the real skill it took to create the originals, this was an absolute pleasure to watch, I am in awe of your skill, I doff my cap to you sir.
Stunning work, I would love to see it from start to finish . Do you do tutorials and or courses? Offer any tips and tricks , how did you learn to do this etc.
It's very impressive that the set of two capitals look almost the same size to me! How could anyone carve with such a precision that every single detail is in the same scale when it's entirely done by hand, each by each! Wonderful works!
Good morning, dear artist, I always follow your videos and wait for the new. I took your advice and bought a bunch of pfeil tools. It 's really excellent. Thank you, but I hope you can show us in one of the videos the correct way to sharpen the drilling tools. Thank you .
Please tell me what type of glue do you use for this capital of oak and for attaching the "ear" for the volutes? It is wonderful that you put this video up for us to view.
Thank you for the info. I am to make two half capitals of red oak and do not have access to a lathe with a swing to accommodate the block. Perhaps I may turn the block and attach the abacus and volutes? Is that what you did for this video?
As exceptional as the carving is, I am just as impressed by how you planned out the work. Very well thought out. A quick question: do you have a favorite or preferred gouge? I noticed you used that 7F/25 quite a bit. A lot of people tend to think that fishtails can't handle pounding but you prove otherwise!
Saludos.
