You raise a very interesting point with why he's not more famous.
A) he won't sign to a label or agency which would do all the donkey work of promoting him. He doesn't want to be told what he should sing and possibly because of the way he was lied to by the US producers of the only American TV show he became involved in, The World's Best, there may be an element of doubt in getting mixed up with western entertainment ever again. He's certainly well known by several major US entertainment moguls, he just won't play their games.
B) the massive size of his fan base in China and Russia and the CIS countries is far more than we could imagine, unless you're in the fan groups you're just not aware of them because of the different internet networks they use.
C) he has admitted in one of his rare interviews that he knows he's picked a difficult genre (neo classical) to become famous in. That doesn't bother him as it's all about the music he wants to write and perform, not about the fame and fortune.
Good answer! All of that is true, and it also presents a dichotomy for Dimash. He's said that he dreams of winning a Grammy, and that he dreams of a solo concert in Wembley Stadium (90,000 capacity). Igor Krutoy has said that Dimash knows he needs to be in America to achieve his dreams, and that they have talked about that. We know that Dimash had plans to temporarily relocate to America (possibly concurrent with his doctoral program) before the pandemic sidelined everything. It's impossible to guess how the future of Dimash's career will play out while the global situation is still so unpredictable. For me, all of this made the message of "Omir Oter" all the more poignant.
@@Snarky_Tart it's one of the reasons why I think he'd be better off looking to the UK for breaking through to the western market. We've got a long history of indie music and artists making that crossover to the US. We've already had music producers say that they would be happy to just throw the money at him and let him get on with it as they've already recognised his genius, plus by building a UK fan base he's one step closer to the Wembley goal. We might be a little island but our music record is legendary. Funnily enough I was watching a American reactor watch a programme on 10 bands that you didn't realize were British only yesterday.

My preferences about the best Dimash song change every time I hear one... I like them all. And every time I listen to him I say to myself: "this is my favorite"... but then I change. Anyway, Dimash is too much to choose from. Everything he does is unearthly and beautiful...just like all of him.

Dimash was 19 years old and lyrics by Oral-kosai Baisengir, who was a poet/lyricist father of a friend of Dimash.
Unforgetable day!! He sings it in all his concerts. Dears have learnt the lyrics in kazakh and sing it together. I hope to see him in Düsseldorf next April, the concert posponed for two years!

Nobody has ever sung this high note in a live performance (captured on video for eternity). The shaking of the microphone is not only a cool effect, but also shows that he is singing live (is often doubted)
This event was the 3rd Open Air Music Festival organized by Gakku TV on September 16, 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan - (2015 - 40,000 spectators, 2016 (1000 years of Almaty) - 90,000 spectators.
2017 - Dimash was announced and 150,000 came. A Kazakh Dear wrote, the city center was completely paralyzed because of the many people. The concert lasted 6 hours.
That also was the first gig and welcome back in Kazakhstan for Dimash, after 'The Singer 2017' in China.

I can no longer pick a favorite but I do have a favorite performance, Daididau from New York. I will attach a link. Now, it is a fan cam but a a darn good one. Why is it my favorite? It is very up close and it shows who he is as a person. Literally you can see his emotions in play, how much it meant to him to sing this song in New York, sold out Barclays center in front a a multi cultural group of fans from literally all over the world who flew in to see it. He repeats a chorus and you can see he is just listening and taking it in that this crowd is singing in Kazakh or trying to and it is a dream he has had and it came true. You see the tears in his eyes. I was there in person and I can tell you it was extremely emotional. More so because with Dimash, the fandom is just different. If I remember correctly, this was a bit of a homecoming after part of his time in China, and it was part of a fair with 140,000 watching, possibly his first after the SOS jump to international fame. He was aiming for his usual D7, but it didn’t happen so he just continued and abracadabra, a D8 was the unexpected result.
Dimash and his dad Kanat wrote and composed this back when he was 15 years old, I think, and there are a few versions from different concerts.

A dear said that Dimash admitted his voice failed to come out, so I think he improvised and produced D8. They also say that the whole place was paralyzed that day because everyone was eagerly waiting for Dimash to see him in person and witness him sing live.

Dimash is incredible at conveying the messages in the lyrics - and that's one of the most mundane things he's capable of. He really is not old enough to bear the pain in them .... but he does somehow anyway. He's amazing in so many ways - I'm an artist and I'm especially in love with his hands and his way of guiding his way through music with his elegant hand gestures. I want to paint his hands ;-)

There's a woman from Brazil named Georgia Brown who went up to a G10, the fact that she went that high is what made her extraordinary. Now what makes Dimash extraordinary is the fact that he's a male who can sing as low as a baritone despite being a Tenor, while still being able to sing higher than 80% of women on this planet, not only that but his charisma is unlike any singer of today.

Well now you've heard the D8. Apparently one of the few times Di has messed up on stage but still managed to attain more than he was aiming for. The Digital Show performance of this song was beautiful.
In The Show Must Go On he barely knew any English at all and all songs were still being learned phonetically, hence the pronunciation issues. It's amazing to see how his English has improved and only a couple of years later he was doing an American MTV interview with no need for an interpreter. I'm not sure if you've done I Miss You yet or We Are One, both done during the pandemic.
