Cleo saying she was boring confirmed my suspicions. Like this girl has very little personality, we don't know her likes/dislikes, hobbies, frankly she seems like she can't hold a conversation and it's like. Being cute can only sustain someone's career for so long

@@nikk5002It’s because I don’t think Ice ever went the route of cyphers etc. She just blew up aided by a unique hair color but with afro texture & colorism + a phat butt. As Cleo said she never really had to hustle. Even when you compare her to someone like Megan who was found via cyphers she still didn’t blow for 2 years or so after discovery. Megan is by no means a deeper skin shade but Cold Seasonings blew up incredibly fast. Despite Megan & rappers like Doechii from the very beginning having viral hits, bars, & the ability to freestyle. The industry pushes down on darker complexion women.
It’s the same way Iggy Azealea blew up & where she at now? The talent be lacking for these ladies but the BBLs & black womanhood aesthetic on white or biracial women is what the music industry pushes & promotes. Sadly. In what world could Ice Spice outperform Doechii or a lil Kim, foxy brown, Nicki etc? We know she can’t & even when she gets on stage her energy is incredibly low 🥴

Not necessarily… my kids ages 15 and 12 says she’s the brunt of the joke around their friend circles and people around school. My little sister (18 years old) and younger cousins that just turned 21 all say the same. They think the industry places very non talented female rappers to make female rap look bad on purpose and they push it on them to like them and a lot of them say they don’t like it and just ignore. I agree with that… I’m sure there’s young ppl who are fans but a lot of these artists are pushed by the industry regardless if they’re well received or not. The industry knows what it’s doing to push certain stereotypes and imagery to keep a certain dialogue going…

I'm not a fan of her at all but imo she could be up their with Nicki. She kept her close and was envious of her. Then when she blew up she tried to shit on her out of jealousy then stole her Y2K look. Ladies be careful befriending people who “admire” you they just want to be you and shit on you if they surpass you 🤷🏾‍♀️. Basically they see you as competition and Cleo finally saw who she really was on tour!

when you mentioned how ppl were saying ice spice is bringing something different, i think about how ppl celebrated her for embracing her natural features, specifically her hair (which turned out to be fake lol). and the only reason why they celebrate this "authenticity" is bcuz its a mixed girl wearing these "natural features" when black women (especially dark skinned black women) gets shamed for it.
i deadass remember someone trying to claim ice spice as nigerian and in the same day, ppl was downplaying the model anok yai's beauty for being "eurocentric" as if ice spice isn’t the most white looking mixed person ever. its the hypocrisy of wanting authentic artists yet hype up ppl like ice spice who u could easily tell is fake, but ppl only liked her bcuz selfhating ppl wish they looked like her

Ice spice skin is very white but if she had darker skin she would not show up like an East African . She does not have keen features like anok . Ice spice would look like most west African women . Which is still beautiful , but the industry prefers the East African look on dark skin . Because if they were white those features would blend if that makes sense . Ice spice is not even seen as top tier as a Latina . So she try’s to lord it over black women .

I mean look at what they said to Doja with her natural hair, and she's mixed herself! Sad you need to be as white as possible to show off some black features.

Also, colorism for men is different than women. Traditionally the buck stereotype and sexualizing dark skin black men changes how we perceive light skin men. They are seen as more feminine even in community or soft. So I’m unsure the relation between how you date lightskin men and how they’re perceived in the grand scheme of society and proximity to whiteness.

We think light skin is preferred, when really the ultimate goal is to be as far away from looking black as possible and I firmly believe that’s why Chloe Bailey hasn’t succeeded as much as she should have-her features are too black for the mainstream, despite her light skin. Also texturism is a thing. So when we think it’s about skin colour, it’s far deeper than that. The issue is looking black

Chloe hasn't succeeded as MUCH because despite being an incredibly beautiful women(let's face it, more than Ice), having one of the best voices in the industry EVER, and having Beyonce backing her -- she just hasn't gone viral on TikTok. Ice made silly digestable songs that were palatable to a large audience, someone like Chloe will never have that cause ironically she's too good. That's why Taylor out here releasing 20 versions of one song or album or whatever she's doing. Social media has messed up music. If it's not trending, it's not popular. And artists are steadily chasing those trending statuses rather than making real good music. And older artists or just artists who care more about their music have a hard time staying "on" because they are making music, not tiktok songs. And their younger fans are "concerned" for them because "you're not trending, so you're flopping", but the record sales are good, concerts are being sold out... as someone who really loves music, it's kind of sad to witness.

She didn’t rap with a backing track and great breath control so you could hear every single word clearly. I felt bad bc it seemed like she only got loud cheers when she bent over.
I think the music that has been coming out the past few years have been microtrends. For example with fashion, white tees are a staple but the cut and fit can be a trend like a tall t-shirt vs cropped. Then there’s the micro trend. A tall tee with the snowman or a cropped tee with music lyrics on it. The music trend is Jersey mix, NY drill, Detroit type beats but the micro trend is mumble rap and in Ice Spice’s case, rapping like a run on sentence and a stale flow. She should’ve made her Like EP and album and took a couple years to progress.

If I wanted to listen to monotone rap, I would just listen to 21 Savage who is much more skilled and interesting in spite of his tone of voice and delivery. I have to wonder if Ice Spice is just a product of the NYC media/sphere machine trying to return NYC hip hop to higher relevance again. She was apparently just a conventionally attractive vehicle through which to push that agenda. I will say that not all rappers are going to be good or even remotely capable freestylers (Lil' baby clearly didn't know how to rap when he came out and could only do the most simplistic freestyle, but at least he was capable of trying. However he obviously worked and then became quite amazing at freestyling within a 2 year period! So clearly if you care, you can become better, or even good at it), but it was always obvious that she didn't even have vague creative talent just based on her delivery in her "music" if that is what you wanna call it.

I was very indifferent when she came out. I thought Munch was cute, but that was it. But once old tweets surfaced and her performances never became better then “meh” I kinda counted her out. No hate, just not my vibe. With these latest accusations, however, I’m just seeing her for who she is: a young woman that still needs to mature. Hopefully she can redirect to influcing or something

She was 100% cosplaying… how to you have a Y2K tour when you were born that year…. I’m not sure why people think they participated in a paradigm/culture when you were 5 and under……. I think that’s why she isn’t interesting because it’s not real…… I was born in 93 and can only say so much about growing up in th 90s (I relate with most of it) but being born in 2000 and acting like you recall or relate to anything prior to 2008 is words behavior. I think she just used to have tumblr and found some funky 90s queen and just stole that style and did the fro because it was different… she didn’t have hair like that at all prior

Something in me feels like even not being dark skin myself, but having a dark skin mother, gramma, & titis also engenders a kind of empathy that folks without darker women who they deeply love in their lives tend to lack. They don't see themselves in those women the way some of us do & it shows. I love hearing the way you unabashedly defend & center darker girls cuz most ppl have lost the plot.

She felt offended at first but as she continued on the show (on and off) we saw her with bobs, long straight hair, etc. rarely see the fro

Kelly actually went solo first and did well.
I think Beyoncé just wanted more.
      Same with Kim Kardashian.
Both of these women have done many things that have done well and failed and they have kept going.
I do feel it definitely was harder for Kelly yes due to her aesthetic but, Kelly just wasn’t having it. Beyoncé tolerated a lot of Bs that I think Kelly wasn’t about to deal with.
Some people literally make it cause they will do anything.

Thank youuuuu......And they been that way since their birth. Hollywood and the Music industry......Take Black movies in the early 1900 their leading ladies were always Light skin. But Black directors of those day. Was very versatile in their character. Also in the 1920 you had two heavy hitters in the music Game. Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey. The Industry did everything to downplay these women. By creating a light skin artist that would top their success

While this may be true, remember, Kelly went solo first and got the Grammy before beyonce! This was during the time when darker-skinned women were the face of R&B so I wouldn’t put so much of it as colorism. Beyoncé’s daddy also had a hand in making sure *his daughter* excelled.

Beyoncé didn’t deal with as much as Kelly, hell Kelly and the other band members were put on the back burner FOR Beyoncé to shine. Beyoncé was shrewd to them as well, her family got to travel with them while the other girls didn’t have that kind of support. Beyoncé got a jaguar while the other girls did not. Don’t believe the hype, the group was snubbed in so many ways and yes I feel Kelly being an original member it was because she was dark

@@prim.an.propher1505Kelly was not given as much opportunity because of colorism, absolutely, putting that on Beyoncé will always rub me the wrong way though. She has been extremely vocal in her support of Kelly and Michelle amplifying their projects often. Having her take responsibility for the choices of grown people when she was a teenager is unfair.
