One thing I want to ask about research proposals: Do they have to be related to research project phd applicants are applying for ? Of course, research proposal should be related to the area of interest of supervisor but what about research proposals' relation to research projects? Yes. You will have to show available funds in the account for 1 month. Or you can get a Bank Educational Loan letter that says that it will take care of your 1st month accommodation. Whether you take money from the Bank or not is a different issue.
