That concept does exist though, in the form of portal reloaded. A portal 2 mod that adds a third portal, the time portal, and with it, several mind breaking chambers

@@gametale3 I was thinking more of the older custom chambers for Portal 2 where you record your movements and a clone replays them, and you can interact with the clone by standing on it and stuff.
Who knew teleporting was a viable alternative for portals?
Portals are just teleporting with extra steps xD

another idea you could do is: basically the same method, but instead of teleporting. it uses momentum, the further away you are from the anchor. the faster you go

Every time you alter portals or swap components in portal 2 it turns into a new puzzle every time that somehow is more unique than the previous one.
with almost every trick you perform, I find myself saying out loud, "DAMN! you're a smart man!"
ooh! might try this on spplice! but i think there would be something intresting, imagine if it also replicated the movment, so tped through the door, it would instead look like you walked through it. or at the start where you tped onto the platform, it would show you go in a curved line.
Also btw i have a question, how do portal 2 mod packages work? Is it similar to how a minecraft texture pack would work?

I can't tell if im subscribed to you because lately, UA-cam has been doing that thing where it says "error subscribing, try again later" and then when i reload the page, there's like a 50/50 chance that it still shows me as subscribed on the video channel icon, and even then, it's a 50/50 on top of that whether it shows as subscribed on your channel page as well.

I originally found it in uptodown site, free, with portal backrooms/old aperture like aesthetics and that's it. Checked on the site, couldn't find it.
P.s. found another puzzle game which proves that it wasn't my fever dream - Monokrome. That one has similar feel despite looking different.

This would be a great standalone concept. Can't tp through walls, can tp theough glass, have to have los with your destination and bam, a functional machanic for a portal-like

A puzzle game properly designed around this mechanic would be awesome
I hope somebody makes a puzzle game or portal fangame with this mechanic, perhaps with areas in which players cannot teleport to or set their offset to, just to make the puzzles harder! This is such a cool idea and I would love to see somebody make a full game out of it, if they haven't already. I also enjoyed the low amount of curse words in the video. You don't hear Portal Runner dropping a "fuck" every 5 minutes. (I watch too many youtubers who say "fuck" every 5 minutes)
Overall, I enjoy the idea for this video, the execution of both the idea and the video, the low swear word count and a puzzle game/portal fangame would be pretty nice. Also, is there any way for me to play this mod myself? Seems fun.

I was thinking that it would literally save your movement.
Like it takes your current momentum and you release it on loading.
Or you set a start point for saving, run around a bit, and it’ll record your path, until you stop,
Then you load to be moving along that path at the same speed.
You know, this would make for a really cool standalone game, independent from Portal. If executed right, this gameplay mechanic has the same potential as the portals in the first place!
When ever I see you post a video I always download the mod, start your old stream, and try to beat you.

5:00 for those wondering: in this part you just don't have enough momentum to make the jump in the normal game. So instead of redesigning the whole puzzle, They just made you get XYZ amounts of velocity if you hit the platform with enough speed
This would make speedruns if the game MUCH quicker

Somehow, no matter what kinds of wacky mechanics you add to the game, portal's tutorial is still good.
You should do this but without the "keeping the movement" part. Just another version of yourself, and each version has a portal gun. Or maybe 1 version has orange and one has blue. I'm playing the talos principle 2 right now and it has that mechanic. It's super cool.

@@rafaelhines1178 No, that has time travel mechanics, and the mechanic you're thinking of still has you playing as one person the whole time. My idea is that you "wake up" with two versions of yourself, one if which is inert. When you have a line of sight for 1 version, you can instantly teleport to it and your old version goes inert.
Regardless, even if a mod already had this, would it not still be fun to try in the main story? IIRC TWTM came out like 9 years ago. Hasn't it been long enough?

Some (probably) not so great Challenge ideas!
Idea/Challenge 1 of 3
Your Portals have a time limit before they close themselves, similar to the automatic Portals just outside of the isolation vault (the room the first puzzle takes place)
{I'm not super familiar with all of the names of things in the game despite watching speed runs, playing the games and watching Challenge videos like this lol}
Idea/Challenge 2 of 3
Portal 2 but objects stick to your player, for instance when the player collides with a prop it will save the specific position it collided with the player and then (relative to the players location) become fixed with an offset. For example if the front of your legs collide with a cube then the cube will be "attached" and keep its position relative to the front of your legs.
Mabye you could push the objects through a Portal and then place the Portal that is between you and the prop on a different surface to "unattach" that prop and it will then be on the ground as normal.
Idea/Challenge 3 of 3
Portal 2 but you have 4 separate Portals or 2 "sets" of portals, one "set" is the default blue and orange and the other "set" is [color] and [color], the blue and orange work as normal. The other set works the same way the blue/orange do but aren't related so for instance blue and [color] don't connect.
Also just to help clear up any confusion, "[Color]" is any color you pick to set the additional Portals too, for example [green] and [red] will not interact/interfere with the default blue and orange Portals.

I think BEE (Better Extended Editor) lets you spawn in with no portal gun so it's totally doable.

i thought this was going to be a thing where you can just cancel your velocity at any time and save it for another time, so like you can get to 500 velocity and then stop in place, and then press a button to return the velocity in the same direction on demand. i think that would be cool... none the less, awesome video!
