@dreacul the kemene was found all over the areas of Europe where the ottomans occupied. western europe adapted it into a westernized version called the rebec. and the Ud of the Balkans and the Middle East became the Lute.

@dreacul We have the same problem in Macedonian music. though even worse, we are suffering a loss from the synthisizer. sometimes ONE FREAKIN synthisizer is basically the whole band. it is taking over the Gajda, Tambura and Zurla. I urge Macedonians to learn another instrument. Even a sax, clarinet or accordion.

Do you know what diatonic and penatonic mean? do you know what modes are? Indianapolis is also a greek word. I guess Athens, Ohio is the greeks too. lolakoulos.

you are watching macedonian music on this video right above. there is no greek music, just like berziti said, no different than turkish or arab music. the music in the above video is diatonic macedonian music and style. the greeks use the makam system along with turks and arabs.

@mangoz69a Pontian kemence/kementse is a different instrument and a very different style to Macedonian, so I was really talking about the Macedonian style and how important it is for us to try and preserve it.
In Bulgaria, kemene was replaced in the 1970s by gadulka which was chosen for all State ensembles, so it was just about wiped out there.
See lebivino's channel on youtube, they have started a kemene preservation and education program in Pirin (Melnik, Sandansko).

Kemene and gadulka are the same instrument and they both can be found everywhere in Bulgaria,Macedonia, northern Greece and European Turkey.

Such a nice song. But the lyrics are difficult to understand. Is someone out there who could post them?

Macedonian kemene (lyra) is alive and well on the Greek side of the border. Here is an example which is ethnographically very close to the playing in Pirin.

We did that since 10.000 years ago..
So if someone has "taken" the music style then its the Turks and Arabs..
    Not the Hellenes..
    Have a nice day..

Once upon a time...we used kemene also here in Romania...Now....we use just stupid occidental instruments like saxophone to play folklorical music....isn't that a shame???

ONLY the fakt that we are living more than 16 centuryes in MACEDONIA is ENOUGH to call us MACEDONIANS ! + the fakt that we are of mixed origine ( slavic tribes and ancient Macedonians and Thraco - Iliryans ) !

Не би трябвало да е от шопския район, това си е чисто македонско от Пиринска, Вардарската част - все едно, но шопският стил е съвсем друго нещо! Добър ви е канала, слушам го!

The slav's came in the 6th century. That doesn't mean anything. You are just trying to feel superior, you got just as much slavic blood as I do. you are nothing pure or superior.

WIthout arguments you have no chance..

Don't try to sound smarter than you are, which isn't that intelligent. the ancient greeks did not use a diatonic mode, they used a penatonic mode. greeks stole plenty of ideas.

haha I wasnt talking to you but also a nice day to you!!
The word yunanian doesnt insult me.
    Yunan means Ionia.
Ionia is the european part of Turkey which was greek!! So by calling us Yunan they call as Ionians and so they say by themselves that this land is greek.
So call me as you want.I will always be a Hellenas from forever hellenic Makedonia ^^

You won't see logic. I haven't done this for a while and I am tired of it. Have a good life.
