    DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf - to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
    BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

Dune has been my favorite book for 50 (yes, 50) years. I may be an older, retired lady, but I always tell people that Dune is my other planet! I am happy that someone has attempted to make such a superb novel into a cinema masterpiece.

I first read it just about 50 years ago myself, always loved it, and have reread it multiple times. I am in the middle of my latest reading of the series now. I do really like what they did with this incarnation of the movies.

The film was amazing. Masterful translation of a complex book to visually stunning and suberbly cast movies. Can't wait for Messiah!

I am in the middle of a reread of the books, just finished Dune Messiah. Been interrupted for a bit by some eye surgery, but looking forward to finishing the books. Then I will do a rewatch of the first movie, before watching the second one. Really looking forward to it.

I love both Dune pt 1 & 2. They’re so good that I do not think anyone but Denis Villeneuve can masterfully direct any of the Dune novels.

Saw it today and was impressed by how they handled the density of the story and made a few minor tweaks from the source material that moved the story forwards in a satisfying way. I think the pacing of the film was deliberate enough to feel appropriately epic in scope and gave room to breathe between some of the bigger moments before ramping up at the very end. Two parts I would have liked to be given more prominence are 1: Paul's refusal to kill Stilgar, and the implications of him assuming command without killing another while also commanding a transformation in Fremen culture in the process. This was a big step in his ascension to power but gets glossed over as a mere act of pragmatism. 2: Paul's speech at the southern war council came suddenly and I would have liked more buildup to this pivotal moment where he finally grabs hold of the opportunity to exploit the cult that has been built around him. He goes from 1-11 almost out of nowhere, and it didn't feel like the gradual transformation he undergoes through the rest of his story.

The movie is indeed a masterpiece, and deserves placement in the highest pantheon of SF movies.

Hi Darrel. I was hesitant to watch the movies because of a perceived lack of integrity with the novels. I saw a trailer and went to see part two last night. Woah! Absolutely amazing. I loved it. It really picked up pace with Paul’s first worm ride and then, yes, ups and downs. Chani stands out. My son has taken my book to read. New convert
    lol 😉

Went to see it on IMAX last night with friends - I really enjoyed it (we all did in fact) and were absorbed throughout. May help you get more from it if you at least have a friend that can outline some of the 'saga' - or indeed having watched this outline video first :-)

Paul Atreides: "I'm shocked - *_shocked!_* - to find eugenics going on here!"
Deposed Emperor leading his daughter up to Paul: "Your new queen, sir."
Paul Atreides: "Oh, thank you very much."
When it comes to how _Dune_ portrays eugenics compared to the _Star Trek_ franchise, in other words, it's hard to argue with success.

I'm sure I will like it; the first one was superb! I might be in the minority here but I even liked the old Dune with Sting! 😅

I watched it in IMAX and for me and my friends it was an OK film, nothing groundbreaking or a masterpiece as the overwhelming majority of internet seems to think. It was visually very pleasant, acting was satisfactory, and the plot had several holes. Enjoyable weekend film, but it is not a next big thing in my book. And I am a Sci-Fi nerd. For example, I do have a wish to watch the entire Expanse series again, or watch LotR extended editions for a hundredth time... but Dune, once, maybe twice, and that's about it.
And outside of a cinema where those beautiful vistas and shots can breathe, the film has even less if you watch it on a small screen. Then it is really just a mediocre sci-fi flick.
I am in an overwhelming minority here, and this is in no way throwing a hate towards the film, actors or anyone involved. I think they all did a good job. And compared to other things currently in cinemas, yes, it is the top dog... but that's like calling a corgi a "mighty dog" in a crowd of pugs. Overall, nothing really to be remembered after a few days in my humble opinion.

_Dune_ is kind of an anti-_Star Trek_ because of its positive portrayal of eugenics. In _Dune_ it's like a young Khan Noonien Singh is the hero.

Positive portrayal? It was a portrayal, I don't know that it was positive or negative.. It just was. It's a story of bloodlines and breeding for sure but I'm not sure it is condoning it. Especially in the books.

In my opinion, only cultural degradation in modern cinema (popular films are empty and boring) makes Dune by Denis Villineuve as a masterpiece. Alternative sci-fi films not exist because simple good films looking for brilliant films. In 80th and 90th wonderful films made other picture.

Chani ruined the movie for me. Her scowl and mocking of Stilgar and arguing with Paul. She's the Skylar White of Dune now.

Its not a Masterpiece. Don't Ride the Hypetrain. The Plot was rushed and checks each Plotpoint in Minutes. Sandworm, Beat Harkonnens, Beat Emperor.. all withing minutes.

… am I really only one who hates that this is called ADAPTATION?
    This is not Dune…
I left 40 minutes into the movie and there were actually people who left before I did…
I got my money back…Just this one person’s opinion…But lower your standards and your expectations going in and maybe you won’t be as disappointed as I was…
I anticipated some changes. But, I had no idea what I was watching. I had no idea what was happening? I only had 3 instances in the movie where I thought I was watching Dune. I felt disconnected from the story pretty much the entire time. Shocked really. Ultimately deeply disappointed…

I disliked this version almost as much as the first attempt at putting Dune on film. I don't think it's possible to do justice to Herbert's masterpiece with current film technologies. I'm not being mean, and I can't put my finger on it either, but I felt let down.
