Your tours around London this time of year, make me more homesick than normal, holidays are hard being away from your family, but your walks brought back many memories. Living now in New England it al2ays reminds me this time of year of the England of my youth it was wonderful to see there are still such parts in old England. And who would have thought you would meet Atilla the Hun
John that churchwouldnt have been scientology would it?
25 days to Christmas still need to do my Christmas shopping I'm late this year
@@jade7249 do we have them here in the UK. I’ve only ever heard of them in the USA. Thought it was an American thing only. I would love to try and get into one just to be nosey. If anyone knows if there is one in the midlands please let me know.
You could also be here in Tasmania they say we look like England
I love your street walk-abouts and all the information and history you give us. Of course the horses are the main thrill, but for those of us who do not have the opportunity or money to visit, this is the next best thing you do for us. Bless you my friend for all you do.❤
Your videos are the next best thing to an actual visit to your wonderful metropolis & country. Thank you for enlightening us.
Same x
So nice to see a town with open stores. My town had that once and someone decided a mall would be better😢
@@joquartobeans398 I’ve told John that he should be a personal guided tours. He would be very helpful.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you
so agree with the comments abt for some of us not able to visit ...your awesome videos are armchair adventures
Thank U again 🇦🇺❤️
I loved hearing you tell the Brisbane tourists that this was the King's horse and the soldier was the King's guard. 💂♂️ Tourists seem to think that they are at a Disney attraction or some such. I'd love to add to the notice.... and that's not a stick of liquorice he has in his right hand.
I just subscribed. ✔️
Mongolians are, by tradition, highly skilled horse riders. There are actually more horses than people in Mongolia.
And many of then are descendants of Temujin - better known by his title Genghis Khan (pronounced Chinggis I am told by a Mongolian friend). He made Charles II look like a monk when it came to the ladies. Studies show around 16 million men can claim descent from him so, maybe those in their national costume at Horse Guards could be the Khan’s great x however many times grandsons.
Isnt like 1/3 of the world a descendant of Ghengis Khan?
This is first video I’ve seen from you and I LOVE it! I am disabled and on a very tight budget so I don’t have the $ to join, but if I ever have a windfall, it will go to you for full membership. I had plans to go to the UK, Ireland and Scotland in 1985, but an accident sidelined my plans. Travel is no longer possible, so I am truly grateful to you for taking me along on your adventures! I live in America on the furthest point north and west in a small town. On a clear day I can see Canada! But we have none of that so-old architecture here and viewing it with you is a chance to see it from home. So, always remember, if you don’t feel like you’re doing much in your life, you’re giving one handicapped woman a window to see what she never would without you. Bless your heart. Be well, stay safe and keep walking…..I will be right beside you.
❤🐈
Such a lovely thing to write, thank you! Sending my very best wishes. 🙏🏻🤦🏼
It’s not just that horses can nip toddlers and babies, but one swing of those massive heads can be devastating. Please protect your children people! All the cuteness is not worth the potential injuries. ❤
Not sure why the tourists think they have to be in any of the photos. The guard and horse are spectacular by themselves.
Well keep OFF the horses then..they’re there to guard our King not for arrogant americans entertainment.. 😡🇬🇧
Telling others what to do. USA?😆
@@carlinetorweihe4246 Reminding people to protect their children is not based on geographic location Carlineto. You didn’t know that? What the heck? 🤷♂️ And your petty criticism isn’t telling people to laugh and be critical of me because I might be from the United States? Are you a troll? 🤷♂️
Having had my nose broken from contact with the neck of a horse, I can confirm the devastation you are talking about. The horse wasn’t targeting me at the time, I was just in the way.
I used to do your walk many times when I was a child in the 1940s-1950s when I lived in Albermarle St , it brings back so many memories .THANK YOU.
As you noticed that our 6ft 2in handsome guard trotted to the box on the right of the main gate, so did I. I’ve been watching your daily posts for several months and recall this handsome guard always being in the box to the left of the main gate. Ironically, I was thinking yesterday of asking if the most “turned out” horse guard could choose which box he or she would prefer. As I have said before, I am in awe of these accomplished young men and women who show their dedication militarily and ceremonially to your King and Country. God’s blessings to all who serve in the military. Thank you for your service.
John, thank you for taking us all on a tour of central London. I doubt I will ever be able to travel to London but you have made it possible to see the sights and sounds of London. Looking forward to “our travels'' while Horse Guards is shut down during December. Sincerely, Norma
No they don’t choose. It’s assigned, box 1 or 2…….just don’t ask me which is which cos I can never remember lol
All the horses are so so beautiful and so well behaved and tolerant . God bless them all and the guards ❤
Thankyou for the wonderful walk in your gracious city. You are giving so many of us views and information we may never see in person. Have a great day and thanks again!
Know London from longish ago. Love it! Also loved that walk with you, + your explainations!👍👋
I love your street walk it makes me feel like I am there thank you for sharing
Thank you for this delightful walk! I always wondered what the other side of this building looked like.
The architecture in London is so beautiful. It expresses the antiquity and tradition.
Thanks for choosing us rather than tea with His Majesty.😊 Really enjoyed the delightful, informative walk. John, the man who put his fists up, was reacting to the horse's nip of his arm. He wasn't seriously going to fight, in my opinion. Thanks again.
I agree. I think he thought he was being funny. He wasn't lol.
My impression of the man raising his fists to the horse was that he was doing it as a quick joke. He had a smile on his face like he was being intentionally silly. It was very unlike the man a couple of months ago who truly looked angry.
That is a Kings guard sitting astride that horse, who takes his job seriously enough. He isn't there for the tourist's amusement. He also has his sword drawn.
@@danhicks684So he’s a smart man who is fully aware that the gentlemen doesn’t mean and won’t cause harm. Don’t insult their intelligence.
@@florpleborp2275 I don't know where you're coming from with you're comment to me? I respect the Kings guards. I've never been in England, If so, I would remember Burgess Meridith's information films on how American GI's are to behave in a foreign country. Even if we brought a lot of British girls home with us as our beloved wives.
John you do fantastic walk about telling us about London 😅😅😅
Of the two Regiments I like the Blues and Royals the best. I’m not sure why really but I like them the best. The guard on Northumberland definitely does not like people getting too close. Don’t really blame him it’s not necessary to get that close
THE BIG HOUSES AND THE WONDERFULL BUILDINGS AND VERY PRETTY ==THANKS FOR YOUR TIME 🥰🥰
So lovely to see the Mongolians I wonder if they are royals or nobles. You were as often in the right place etc
What beautiful architecture!!! Thank you, John!
Beautiful horses
Loved the walk to Horse Guards, the winter sun gilds the buildings bring out the marvelous colours of the marble stone buildings. Some of them look like the top of a wedding cakes.
The Mongolians where like the icing on the cake 😊 with the beautiful colours of their national costumes.
I hope when HG is shut not only will you show us some of the material you've not had tome to show. But you'll do us a couple of walks and changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace never seen that. Thanks John..
No hat no mittens no shoes on that poor little baby. Parents had hats.😢
Love the tour that you are giving.🥰
Thank you for the tour of parts of London, John. I know I’m not very likely to ever visit England myself, but you’re giving me a small taste of what the city is like. I also admire your ability to identify various accents. It’s quite phenomenal! Those Scottish ladies a couple of videos ago, did you say they were from Uist? How wonderful that they were here. I love challenging myself with understanding the Scots dialects. Some words I know or can guess, others I’m a total loss with!
I’m so glad you got the pictures on the people in traditional Mongolian attire. They were absolutely spectacular! When I first saw them I thought the man in the blue tunic looked familiar, like an actor I’ve seen. Did anyone else have the same impression?
charles bronson?
Your humour is so funny 😄
I am so enjoying your walkabouts, John. Lovely to see the Christmas decorations at the Burlington arcade. Thank you for making my day.
The Burlington Christmas decorations were so lovely, executed with style and class.
Lovely walk again John and beautiful scenery as well as the buildings and horses glad you are wrapped up warm love to you and family xx
The Mongolian wardrobe is vibrant . 👍
Highlight of my morning. Those colours! 😍
@@LondonCityWalks They were wonderful to see , what a stroke of luck you were there at the right time . The Mongolian people are consummate horsemen and women there are some amazing videos of their riding skills . They left as you went to the front , I wonder if they had already see the boxmen and their horses . Wearing their beautiful costume , are they in London for something special I'd love to know . Enjoyed your walkabout as usual , many thanks .

Hello John, wonderful as always this video from Wednesday... And especially this lovely walk in the City punctuated with all this information on the Buildings and their Stories. Very·very·very·very beautiful homes flooded with light.
But so much noise in certain places. The end of this walk was beautiful, calm and relaxing.
Thank you UA-camr No.1 !
How do you say UA-camr in English ? THANKS. Have a good night and see you soon. Take care ! ❤🐴❤
Thankyou so much for this vidéo and your walk to thé King’s Guard. It was à treat for me, living so far away, being able to walk with you down my beautiful London’s streets. Please keep on doing thèse vidéos. Love your comments and History titbits. 👍🌹😊
Those horses must get so irritated by all those hands reaching towards their mouths - but offering the horse nothing at all.
That's why the horses take a nibble on the hands. 😂
*First and foremost, thanks for that lovely walk about this morning! What a fascinating, beautiful place!*
The level of absurdity, disrespect, and rudeness gets worse every single day!! For instance, that absolutely disgusting jerk @ 41:04 that took a big puff off of his cigarette and literally blew it in the horse's face!! 1:02:38 - Perfect example of the rudeness and entitlement of some folks! These two literally stepped right in front of that lady trying to get her picture taken!
1:02:54 - This is one of my absolute favorite guards! He's super vigilant and does his job very well!
I didn't see Ormonde the Magnificent. He has a marking on his forehead that resembles an adjustable wrench.
What an absolute and welcome contrast to all the disrespectful people, to meet that lovely couple from Brisbane Australia, giving a nice shout out to their friends, Phil and Carol!
Do you really have to point out bad behavior and rudeness? We all have eyes. Stay positive!
The gent was playing a fool, for the cameras.
@@judyc9380 Why not? After all it's difficult to express something positive about the behavior of arses.
I would absolutely love to visit London! Look very interesting
The greatest city in the world
What a fantastic walk that was, I've just caught up after seeing the short video first with that moron with the fists up anyway you know what i thought of him in the comments. Just loved this video John everthing so bright and beautiful and Magnificent horses and Magnificent Guards. I really hope we have more walks with you whilst Horse Guards is closed with you knowing London so well you just explain everything perfectly.
Thank you so much for sharing. ❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧
Considering there are over 200 horses there , it may be harder than you think to remember all there names.
Well done for your efforts to name them for us.
Hahaha. John the horse put his dancing shoes on today. He’s happily going to work. Such beautiful animals they are . Not only that but they love to entertain, and show off their skills. 😊❤
I so enjoyed the brisk walk this morning! Much preferable to the crowds of summer! Clippy clop! Love that sound!
Have great day John. Thank you.
Thank you so much again for showing us London and giving us knowledge ❤
Did not know about the change over and i'm a Londoner.Great walkabout, thanks😊.
Well, let’s be honest, there are SO many little ceremonies and nooks and hideaways in London, that even a native can’t possibly hope to know them all. I remember when I lived in London, I stayed with a friend for a while and his GF was a native Londoner, in their flat in Chiswick. Not particularly central, but not far away by tube or bus either. She was forever asking me where I was going on weekends and days off, and 9 times out of 10 she’d be amazed to discover that “insert thing here” was in London. I often on a day off would head for one of the parks, Regents park, Green Park, or Hyde Park to watch the sunrise. In Hyde Park you always had the bonus of the horses, both the HHC and privately owned horses at agistment at the Stables. She had no idea the ride out was a regular thing lol.
Loved the stroll through London and the approach to the Kings Guard. A very different and beautiful way into the Parade Grounds. Thank you.
Love the Mongolian national dress so vibrant and colourful John i think the red foliage covering the building is Virginia creeper (maybe wrong) it was in the background of another of your videos a little while ago and i remember how wonderful it looked in the sunshine Thanks for another lovely video.
Not ivy John, Virgina Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) on the wall of the Admiralty Citadel, Horse Guards Parade, turns red in September
Thanks John for you brilliant narration and tour on the way to Horse Guards. Love your interactions and comments. You are a real gent. 😊. 🇦🇺
I just saw the Burlington Arcade a few moments ago on one of your channels John. I loved going into there in the early 1980s.
Adored the walking tour- brought back best memories.
John you are better than the tour guides in London. You have opened my eyes to what historic sites to come and see next spring. As well as horseguards I'd love to see some of the museums and cathedrals as well as the London Eye and Madsm Tussauds wax Museum.
Thank you so much for your video. It was so educational to me. The horses are beautiful. People should never be permitted to smoke around the horses. Poor horses. Hope to see you again. Be safe.⭐
I remember Michael Palin began his wonderful programme tracing the steps of Phileas Fogg from outside the Reform Club, "Around the world in 80 Days". When he arrived back, there was nobody to greet him ! 🙋🇬🇧🐴
Such a beautiful picture of the guard in the morning sunlight. Thank you for the tour down the lanes. Spectacular architecture. I LOVE horses and this channel.
The buildings are just awesome. That tree at 15:04 was beautiful. Buildings and trees. Beautiful walk! ❤
You must be worn out or very fit quite a long walk. Very long time since Ive been around that area nice to see it
Great mornings footage John. The coloured Bl & R chap with the tash is an Awesome chap. Respect 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
This is the first time I've seen any of your videos showing anything other than Horseguards, and it was a real treat. Those Mongolian national costumes were absolutely beautiful, and it was wonderful learning a little more about Pall Mall and the clubs on it. Thank you for this video!
Great walk from the back of the palace and love hearing the info about some of the buildings etc. Very funny quips, especially the ex wife one 😅. I follow a Mongolian throat singing metal band called The Hu. They are brilliant 👌. Fascinating talking to the retired trooper, would have been interesting to know more, without him giving away too many secrets😊
Hello from South Ga! Also, hello to the couple from Brisbane Australia. Loved your walk today it was beautiful. Stay safe and warm in your travels. 🤓🦋
I love watching your videos, especially days like today. Your descriptions and humor are top notch. It sure takes my mind off of how horrible I feel. It's chemo week, and I need the distraction. Thank you so much!!

Those horses are stunning. Their coats look velvety!!
This was such a great video I love seeing the sights and you are a mine of really good information ❤
You will probably find the gravel/sand is from here in Cornwall, our sand is fabulous equine sand, thank you for the tour of the Monopoly board and all the ,yes you had it right the first time ' entitled ' peoples clubs, very interesting though. What about those Mongolians ? Superb,an artist friend of mine painted them on horseback with their Eagle 's ,magnificent. The entitled French don't do themselves any favours, stupid in French is Moron ☺. Nice to see the people from Brisbane enjoying the lovely weather. Beautiful twin horses who couldn't just love them 😍 Thank you John ☺
Thanks for the walk - I really enjoyed it.
I suppose, when there are neither horses or guards at Horse Guards it will have to revert to what George II intended it to be when he engaged William Kent to design what was basically a new front door to St James’s Palace. Difficult to grasp the logistics now but that is what the box men are guarding.
Hi John, wow how strange to see a tourist with a cigarette in his hand out amongst the crowd!!!😮. Here in Australia you aren’t allowed to smoke like this in public area and not allowed around children. Looked really bad yuk….. you are so good at knowing when it’s all happening 😊
The Reform Club is very famous and I had no idea where it was 😂 Thank you!
As usual, John, you made me smile. Late start for me today so thanks for the smiles. Hey, you even quoted AA Milne! Wee...
Thank you for another great video, I didn't see Ormonde amongst those horses at the end.
You are right, no Ormonde.

Hello John beautiful video thank you so much for sharing this video with the world much love from Quebec Canada
And thank you for giving a tour of the streets i love the big old building's
What a lovely walk John. The light this morning is beautiful, crystal clear and luminescent. When we came up to the police horses I almost expected you to start reciting "they're changing the guard at Buckingham Palace, Christopher Robin went down with Alice..."
It was fun seeing the pigeons all fluffed up in the cold and perched along the ledges like little gargoyles, and meeting the Mongolian group was a bonus... Just beautiful.
Thank you for your constant narrative. I have enjoyed your comments and learned a few things from you about our history. The other guy who videos never speaks.
Thank you for your tour of London. I thought you might like to know the Mongolian people you spoke to could be performers from the show "The Mongol Khan " which is on at London Coliseum London until 3rd December.
Thanks for the information , I was wondering what they were doing in London 😊
London is such a beautifully clean city, your pride in it is so evident.
As for the horse biting....in years past, horses were trained to attack and kill the enemy, protecting their riders, even to death.
I think this is what we are seeing, these horses protecting their riders from those they deem a threat.
Thank you for your interesting videos. I find them very informative. I so enjoy history. Keep up the great work 👍
26:11 ....look at the horses ears! He's very much annoyed by the photo shoots.
Thanks for showing a close up of the bunker. When I first started watching the Guards I use to wonder what that building was. So I'm guessing that it is at this corner at the lights, during a Long Guard, that the Trumpeter would sight the Regiment approaching. I find all this fascinating.
Lovely colourful outfits the Mongolians visitors wear. Thanks John you are appreciated, Ka kite take care.
Hi John how are you! Still enjoying your videos! Thank you very much! Merry Christmas 🎄 🇨🇦❤️🇬🇧
Calm down calm down, the chap was embarrassed I reckon and just playfully did the 'boxer' pose as his wife and daughter were watching. The horse had moved his head towards him and got him with a lovely wet patch of slobber on his sleeve. He was just trying to cover his mild embarrassment.
Clarity of this video is exceptional. Good job!
So nice to have a London tour from a Kiwi in Wellington New Zealand
People should not be allowed near guards and horses!
My first time watching your tour. Brings back a lot of good memories!!!
Very nice surprise, I have never seen Mongolian people live.I appreciate that you approached them ,Your walk this morning is so interesting, I noticed several names ,that are used by cigarette manufactures such as Marlborough, Pall Mall, The latter being my late mothers brand. I personally do not smoke because I find the habit being nothing royal .
That's because a great deal of wealth in London and Liverpool and other port cities, was brought in due to the tobacco trade. Many families owe their titles to that trade, and other commodities like tea or sugar(some rather less savory items as well) being bought and sold, and moved around the "empire" from these major ports
(sorry for the mini lecture lol I get carried away)
@@catzkeet4860 History major or just a history buff? LOL You are not alone I always think of these types of things when John or others take us on a mini tour.

Love ur tour around London, interestingly you showned me how to get to Horseguards, from charing cross station, so thanks for that. ❤
One of my ,Aunts is married to a man from Mongolia, so I recognised the costumes quickly. They are beautifully warm people.
I didn't think that people were allowed to touch or ANNOY the horses !?!?!?
Unfortunately they can touch the horses, but not the Guards or the reins. I wish they wouldn't touch the horses.
Beautiful walk. Love to see the awesome buildings. I think the last horse that came in from the blues and royals may have been a mare😊
Hi John great video Thank you ❤️🇬🇧

You have net so many interesting people on your walk today John👍
I am really enjoying your tour!! I have difficult walking too far but I enjoy your tour at ground level. Almost makes me think I am back in London.
Stupid in French is the same as English just spelled with an e at the end ❤ and in any country that would have been disrespectful. The king’s guards that guy should have been in handcuffs and used as an example of what not to do. Unbelievable 😮
You have such a great knowledge of London and the various accents. Like the Koreans. It makes your narration so interesting. So many of the places you've been I've seen and it brought back such lovely memories. Bureau Lane in point. We have a Bureau Lane in the town I lived in. The original was so beautiful. But the morons persist. Fists up at a "working" horse is not on. I would never take a chance putting a small child near a horse's big head. Too silly. Such a lovely video. Thanks John 🤗
Sometimes the horses act like they're excited to start work. Lol
This is a pleasure and a nice change to be able to walk around with a view at a height much taller than than my 5'5"😁thank you.
One of my favorite words to hear with the British pronunciation is "shedjuling". "Autumnal" is also unique, as pretty much everyone in the States says "fall".
I agree!
Not unique at all …it’s just you yanks and Canadians that call it “ Fall “ and yes you butchered our English language. 🙄
@@Ionabrodie69 I’m sorry you feel that way. I have a southern accent but I do love to hear the British talk.
