My Mother had a cassette tape in the late 80.s early 90.s of a string band with hammered dulcimers, and this tune was on there. Sir I have been looking for more than thirty years to know the name of this song. Now I listen to it everyday and dance around my house, remembering my Mother.s life. God bless you Sir; this was a huge gift
Still grateful and amazed at the number of people who have watched this! By the way, the easy way to find my other videos on You Tube is to search for "Fiddlejake". Thanks so much for the support!
Love your double stop harmonies, especially on the higher end. The second half of the B section, I've been trying to copy your D and F sharp,, c sharp and e double stops but its so hard!
I love your American version of Drowsy Maggie. I have played the Irish version slower and more ornamentation but just does not compare for me to the feeling, energy and down right happy mood that over comes me when I listen and watch you play Drowsy Maggie. If I need a pick up I turn to this video. I love also how you start with a Christmas carol and tie it in, your finish is fantastic and your expression as you end is great.i really appreciate your talent and ability as a musician to speak to the heart.
This made me so happy! I have been looking for this since the day I saw Titanic, and now I have, and your version is incredible! I have already watched it so many times, and I love at the end how happy you look!! It's so heartwarming!
This tune sounds like a bull with wings and is flying through the trench of the Death Star dodging fire and missing obstacles on its way to blow up its target . :)
Can someone tell me how to play this without hurting my wrist and/or my arms? I know the song but I can't play this fast because I don't know the appropiate technique... but I really want to :D Is about relaxing the right arm, the shoulder...? thanks.
Great version of Drowsy Maggie. Greensleeves however is sometimes slightly out of tune. At least to my ears. I started playing the violin last year and can only dream about having your skills. Thanks for the music.
In fact, it is played far too fast. Traditional music in Ireland is played for old time dancing. That is not to say it is not great have a look at some of the old time players, google clare street session will give you an idea and maybe you would find their style easier. By the way, I am from Sligo great fiddle playing county, including my father RIP but I lived for many years in Nevada and love Virginia City
The tricky stuff with Drowsy Maggie - and other reels, for that matter - is those rolls. Without them, it just doesn't sound the same. I don't play the violin, but I play the tin whistle and I know how tricky it can be to work rolls into a dance. Playing a solitary roll on a tin whistle is not difficult - inserting rolls properly into a dance is.
Far too fast in your opinion. Obviously many people like it played fast like this. Perhaps it would have been better to have said "this is played faster than music in Ireland is traditionally played."
Das ist eines der Lieder, warum ich vor 2,5 Jahren mit Geige spielen angefangen habe 😍
Can't believe how many "hits" I've had on this...wow! Thank you all so much for enjoying!

I also like the American flavor he put into it. Very nice.
I had the privilege to know him personally.
It was an honor.
Good man as well as good music.
Take a look at Google for Middlegate NV.

And I thought I could play the tune well...
I've learned all the notes but there's a whole lot with that bowing going on. Still trying.

mr. and mrs. struttinbuck How did you go doing the double stop in the A section?
