As a Tibetan, it's very interesting to hear Nitish boldly talk about it and looking at the link given in the description I understand where he is coming from.
Well, Tibet was never ruled by china directly or indirectly but Tibet was definitely indifferent and oblivious of what was happening and sign any documents because we like to be left alone. With that attitude, India never had to worry about border conflicts with Tibet before 1949 because we consider India as teachers (in terms of Buddhism) and always consider brothers being friends.
But in 1949 Chinese communist won the civil war and came into Tibet for resources and food, as they were dying of famine and almost to the brink of cannibalism.
Anyways, 1962 war, Tibetan armies also fought alongside India against china, similarly, 1972 bangal war Tibetan army under Indian army fought against Pakistani.
Well, Tibet was always independent until Chinese came...
