I still really don't understand why this album was so harshly criticized at the time it was released - I love just about every Spinnerette song with the same intensity as my love toward Distillers songs, some maybe even more. Everything she has released under any band name/solo project is in a class of its own. You go, Brody!
People accused her of being a spiritual successor of hole and some other weird stuff like that. Now you know. They were very judgemental, but I liked hearing the influence of different prolific artists who's works I follow in the works of others I follow, on occasion. Much like the collaborations between Ichika Nito and Marcin.
Because most people want artists to never change or do anything different. Sure, I like The Distillers, but that doesn't mean she has to do that forever -- I also thought that the Spinnerette album (and this song in particular) were outstanding, and I her solo stuff too. An artist should do what *they* want/feel and that's where she's been successful - It's all her.
I’ve spent five years searching for this song with only a misremembered chorus to work from. Never occurred to me that I could just ask my dad what it was called. Finding this has made 2020 worthwhile.
If by evolving you mean changing styles to match the man shes with then you are right. Just like Tim was the genius behind the Distillers, Josh Homme is obviously influencing Both Spinerette and her solo career.
When I say style, I don't just mean genre. I mean everything about her. She was the female Tim Armstrong before, now she's the female equivalent of Josh Homme.
I wouldn't consider myself a hater at all, but her voice was the epitome of punk rock. She left for an inferior genre, so of course that's something to be upset about
Omg.. I heard this song SEVEN YEARS AGO on pandora, got really into it, listened to it on UA-cam for a month straight and then forgot all about it and couldn't remember the lyrics, title, nothing.. been searching unsuccessfully all these years. Yesterday I finally found it after putting on The Sounds pandora station.. told my bf if thee illusive song appears it feels like it would appear on that station.. 2 songs later and there it was. What a great voice: got real maturity and depth to it now! Reminds me a lot of Siouxsie Sioux. So glad she's got the guts & integrity to always try doing different things with her music.

This is just awesome. Gotta say... I think it is my favorite. I hated it at first cause I was looking for more distillers. But I gave it a chance and I see it for what it is. The whole scene is fantastic... very historical. And it shows how much Brody matured. Amazing.
1.25 Increases the tempo too much to where the song ends up sounding like crap. To actually fix the song it would require someone to slightly speed up the slow parts, and keeping the chorus at its current. Speeding it all up throws everything out of whack just like the original.
Lol I just discovered the distillers and spinnerette Brody has just a unique voice. It’s the first time that I enter to the punk world and these bands are just fabulous… Besides I think spinnerette is really underrated. Rock on 🤘
I love Distillers. They are my favorite Punk band but I would follow Brodie to Hell and back. Spinnerette was perfect. I love you Brodie I wish you the best on ypour solo career.

Baptized By Fire
Spinnerette
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
Have you ever been alone?
Fighting your own war?
Someone stole the life from you
And now they're back for more
Your heart is on the floor
Beating out of control
Oh, I don't want this anymore
So I'll be sailing on
Out into bermuda blue
Compass needle breaks
Like the heart I gave to you
I've been laying down
In the devil's lair
Sailing into the sun
I'll be baptized there
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
In matters of the heart
One must try to fill it up
With love and grace, you'll start a fire
Immerse old wounds & douse them out
Pick your heart up off the floor
Hold it gently now and go
To the place you were meant to know
So I'll be sailing on
Out into bermuda blue
Compass needle breaks
Like the heart I gave to you
I've been laying down
In the devil's lair
Sailing into the sun
I'll be baptized there
I'll be sailing on
I'm gone, I'm gone
I'll be sailing on
I'm going to the sun
I'll be sailing on
I'm gone, I'm gone
I'll be sailing on
I'm going to the sun
So I'll be sailing on
Out into bermuda blue
Compass needle breaks
Like the heart I gave to you
I've been laying down
In the devil's lair
Sailing into the sun
I'll be baptized there
So I'll be sailing on
