The first time I heard this song it brought tears to my eyes. That hasn't happened to me in years. This is sheer beauty, a gorgeous classic that will never die. I am so grateful to the angel who created this, and the pair of angels singing it.

I am a full time singer/guitarist and D.J. I eat albums as soul food (3-4 a week) . Rarely does a singer come along that just stuns me (David Gray. Ron Sexsmith, Mark Heard) I bought "There is so much more" and "Hope for the hopeless" and would not play anything else for 3 months straight and no one complained, not once. I bought multiple copies and gave them out like Father Christmas. Never have so many asked "Who sings that song your playing"? I just love this version of Heaven. love alex xox

This song reminds me of John Lennon's "Imagine".
The message in this song is sweet. Yet, there are some, if offered this "heaven" as a choice, would turn it down in favor of class divisions and competition.

This is such a beautiful song. I am torn because the song has a religious sentiment that hearkens back to the ignorant stone age when fire was thought to be created by gods.

I wish I could write a brilliant song like this one ... AMAZING Brett!
Thinking my song "Without You" relates somewhat to your "Heaven" in the way
we deal with uncertainty and questions of belief after untimely death of a loved one.

The nice thing is, I don't see this as a "religious" song, but kinda like Lennon's "Imagine" -- just about being a good human and living to the best of your ability. If your a believer or a non-believer, it relates to the human experience and hope in general.

@MrKillbot5 It's not to the video :) I'm just inspired by Jack Johnson, Brett Dennen, Mason Jennings and a lot more. For me it looks like they know what life is about. And they enjoy every moment of their life even if it's in hard times. And for me it's something that i also would be able to. So it helps me to listen to Brett and read Paulo Coelho :)

I'm in awe of the wisdom of his youth. Brett's lyrics take me back to San Francisco in the 60's. He, like so many of that period, has a vision, a perspective that has no dividing line and recognizes a few basic principles. Perhaps we can know heaven if there is "a home for the homeless" and "hope for the hopeless." Otherwise, "What the Hell is Heaven." susan Q. miller

@Anna22493 Hehe. Wow. Cringe. Although, come to think of it, the Beatles did start as a boy band, really, and they did change their look entirely to do so (leather jackets to suits). Of course, they didn't stop there, and I don't really see any artist becoming what Beatles' were to their generation/culture.

Reaaaaaaally late.. but can somebody make a real video for this? Like go through different cultures and religious sections of the world and prisons and wartorn areas and video clips of lost children for this or something?? I swear it would go so viral.. and the proceeds should go to various charities like seriously.. this song is Soo touching🥺 it makes you think about society and all the public lies about what people think God is instead of just letting God call us as individuals.. thank you brothers and sisters❤️

I remember a music vidoe that i got on apple music back in the day for free for a free music download of the week. It was this song and i know that for sure. Although there was an amazing music video that look like it was made of paintings, that started out as a field and then slowly grew into a town and then a big city and then the city became abandoned and collapsed and then the nature back over...
I'm pretty certain it was this song.
I listened to it and watche the video every morning beofre dealing with people at school my sr yr.
I would love to see that vidoe again.
Don't get me wrong the song is amazing by itself it's just I'm old enough to wear senior year of high school is now my childhood. 😅 Oh fuck my back! Owch!
I need to stop remembering i am old.😂
Back to the point it would just be nice because the video itself you must know is its own work of art and i am aure thats why you paired it with this masterpiece.

Heaven, what is it, who knows? What is life at all, what is all this chaos and stuff floating above us, in us, and through us, mysterious ways indeed, why all this something rather then nothing? Where do we go from here? To sublimate something out of our nothing's maybe in them we will find our everything.

@tbawden100 Merchant can't compete with Nicks. They are opposites. Nicks is real. Merchant wants to try to sound sexy. Nicks' exudes sex and sexiness. Nicks and Dennen could fix this stupid blunder. Dennen is too nice of a guy to turn Natalie down..but he should have. She added nothing to this song. Sorry.

  • @bornduringrainstorm

The boring voice of Natalie drags this song down. She wants to sound beautiful. She needs to grind it and make it real and raw...the way Janis Joplin would have done. Her influence traps this song into a commercial genre...opposite of Brett's style and purpose. I could never buy a boring Natalie Merchant cd...yawn.
