@@josephcarroll8262 Agreed. I will NOT relinguish my firearms. Whether one thinks it's all myth or not, after Hilter and Stalin, I'd rather die on my feet. And the fools that talk 'socialism', which is just communism-lite and will get fully there shortly...
To answer your question, the JFK-style Democrats still supported freedoms. I don't know if dad had a gun or not, but he didn't need to take everyone else's guns just because he didn't want one. Things were different back then.
Same with 'hate speech' - we knew the KKK was out there, but we didn't find it necessary to silence them. Let all stupid ideas be spoken outloud so we can know what we're dealing with. The idea of 'free speech zones' really missed the point. It's free - like Dr Suess - it's free over here, and free over there, it's free speech EVERYWHERE.

I'm a cop in the (Conservative) South. A few months ago, a friend of mine who is a Jew in NYC called me and asked me if his daughter would be safe going to a university in my state. I was able to say that she would, and that I'd be available if she needed anything. I also warned him that she might come back home a Republican. He laughed and said that he and a number of his friends had been reconsidering their positions on a LOT of issues, and home would probably end up being somewhere else for them.
Don't get me wrong, we don't want a bunch of hard-Leftists moving down here and trying to change how we live, but I CAN say that we believe in people being safe to live their lives in peace.

My husband is from a small town in NC…his mother is Jewish, his father is Baptist. They are still together, the family has never had any issues. We live in a small town in SC, my daughter is in 3rd grade in public school. They just did a social studies lesson on Yom Kippur. My daughter told her class that her grandmother and great-grandmother are Jewish and she was going to watch a live stream service with them (since her great-grandmother can’t go in person anymore). The class all wanted to know about it when she got back to school after the break. From another Southerner, tell your friend, as long as his daughter respects other people’s beliefs, they will respect hers and she is definitely safe in the South.

A lot of Jews are not really Liberal but are more just loyal Democrats because they fell for the crap that the Democrats are for minorities and even to a degree that the Republican party is the Christian party and not the Judeo Christian party so didn't feel welcome. I never fell for that bs but my brother did, although he really isn't Jewish at all, only born a Jew. While I wouldn't say he's an Atheist, he isn't the slightest bit religious and buys the Democrat lies for some reason. He was reasonable till Trump, then he lost his ability to be rational. Not Jewish or even religious, but I left the Democrat Party because of Oct 7th. Even a year before that, I shared a video about anti-semitism to my mostly Democratic network, which includes people who run NGOs, etc. No one responded at all. At the time, I thought it was a bit odd but brushed it off. Then Oct 7th happened. Over a year later, and none of my Democrat friends or colleagues have spoken up about Oct 7. It is shocking. Our party was started by abolitionists who fought for years to end slavery. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president and most of the southern states started seceding from the Union even before he was inaugurated. They were just so sure he would be bad for their evil institution.
I don't really understand how the Democrats got the reputation for being such great friends of minorities, when they were behind the disgusting Jim Crow laws that segregated schools, drinking fountains, lunch counters, and bathrooms. Every time I'd hear Biden make a speech about Jim Crow 2.0, I'd yell at my TV.

I come from a very politically engaged and left wing family to the point that growing up, both at home and in gatherings with anyone in the extended family, "right wing" or "Republican" were essentially swear words or slurs. I have personally been gradually evolving in a conservative direction for about ten years, and I happily voted for Nikki Haley in the primary. But even though at this point I generally consider myself a moderate Republican, I also do sincerely believe that Donald Trump tried to subvert the democratic process by force on Jan 6. And I haven't changed my mind on that. But even assuming the worst case, that Trump in a second term both tries and succeeds to subvert the constitution, I am going to vote for him anyway.
Like most American Jews, I had always taken it on faith that freedom and democracy made this country inherently safe for Jews. But I've watched antisemitic riots rage on every campus in the country for the last year, at least as bad as Charlottesville, and it's clear that these people are such a significant fraction of the Democratic base that even supposedly pro-Israel Democrats are afraid to alienate them. If bloodthirsty antisemites can be this powerful a political force in America, I can no longer trust in the American system of government to inherently protect Jews.
What happens if I vote for Democrats again, to preserve the American system of government, and after two years the antisemitic faction becomes powerful enough to drive foreign policy instead of merely sabotaging it? What happens if the US president decides it's not enough to delay a few bomb shipments and instead embargos all arms sales, or refuses to use veto in the UN Security Council? Israel is balanced on a knife's edge. I'm not willing to risk the security of the only place I could flee, at the very same moment as I have begun to fear for my safety as a Jew here in America. If that is the price of preserving the constitution, it's too high.

As an Evangelical Christian I am pleading with you and other Jewish brothers and sisters we love the same God and believe in religious freedom. The woke left democrat party does not represent your value system. They hate God, believe in evolution, sensor free speech and kill a million unborn babies a year. If people still believe Trump is a tyrant, dictator and a fascist, racist, who is going to enslave black people, intern Asians, deport all brown people and bring Jews to the next holocaust, then praytell, why would they vote for liberal democrats to take away your Second Amendment rights to defend yourselves from the very tyranny that you say he is? What I can’t believe that I learned after October 7, is that only 2% of Israeli citizens could own handguns? The democrat party does not represent your values, they will introduce this country to Sharia law. Trumps son in law is Jewish, thus his daughter and Grandkids Jewish, right? He will appoint federal judges who believe in conservative values. I can see you are a great thinker and ponder these current issues. I read the Old Testament daily. Ezekiel 23 the entire chapter, notes what is going to happen to a country that turns from God. The Jewish people were worshiping idols and sacrificing their children by burning on pagan alters. Then, they would turn around and go to the Temple on the Sabbath Day and worship God. No different now from the Christians and Jews voting to kill babies in the womb, (the babies are then incinerated) on every Tuesday election in this country, then turning around and going to churches and synagogues on the weekend and worshipping God. We are so hosed with the liberals that evil has put upon us that we may not survive. Anyway praying for our Jewish and Catholic, and Lutheran brothers and sisters to see the truth of the nowlost democrat party. 🙏🏽❤️🇺🇸

Let me change your mind about J6. First, I'm a retired auditor and I've spend several years looking at the evidence from the 2020 election with an auditor's detached and neutral professionalism. My conclusion is that there is a 90%+ probability that Trump was the rightful winner and that most of the malfeasance was from election officials who acted in partisan ways to open up opportunities for cheating by election office insiders and election activists who were working with them. You may find it interesting to know that there have been about a dozen books written discussing the evidence for election malfeasance, some very scholarly and some not so. But all of those books make the case for a rigged election. Not a single author has been willing to write a book discussing the evidence and arguments and trying to refute the view that the election was rigged. The whole sum of the case made by people who would have you believe the election was fair and free is simply their aggressive assertion that it was so without any discussion of the facts and including much misrepresentation of facts, such as the misrepresentation that Trump filed 60 cases and he lost then all. That is absolutely incorrect. I find the huge discrepancy of one side relying on evidence and the other relying on, basically, aggressive assertions not based in evidence to be very, very telling. Now, knowing this, was it not right for Trump to defend American election integrity? Should he just have brushed election rigging off and shrugged his shoulders? Would that have been right or heroic or patriotic? What does a president owe to the nation when he knows that there has been a rigged election? That's the really serious question you should ask yourself.
So, on J6, what was Trump's plan? It was certainly not the one the Democrats' narrative describes -- a violent "insurrection" organized by Trump which physically would interrupt the transfer of power. How do we know that? First, on J4, Trump expressed concern to both the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chief of Staffs about J6 crowd size and expressed that they needed to ensure that the day was "safe and secure". To this end, he ordered them to authorize 10,000 National Guard or Army troops to keep order. The testimonies of the 2 officials were taken by the J6 Commitee but buried and kept from the public. They were uncovered when records were transferred to the present Republican controlled House in 2023. So, a guy who was planning an "insurrection" would not have ordered 10,000 Guardsmen to keep order, would he? It was Nancy Pelosi and DC Mayor Bowser who refused the offer of the National Guard and left the Capitol virtually unprotected and the crown unmanaged. The president cannot order out the Guard. He can merely authorize the use of the Guard. It's the head of Congressional security -- Pelosi and McConnell at the time -- who can order it out. So, Trump wanted heavy National Guard presence to keep order on J6. Absolutely no doubt about that. He told his supporters to protest "peacefully and patriotically" and he sent a tweet asking them to keep peaceful within 15 minutes of returning to the Oval Office from his speech. That Tweet was blocked by Twitter along with a 2nd Tweet sent shortly thereafter. We know this because Twitter restored the Tweets when Musk took over.
Trump's actual plan was two-fold. First, understand that the legislatures of 4 states had written to Trump and Pence asking Pence to refuse their state's electors certified by their governors and to call for a short delay in counting while the legislatures were given a chance to look into voting problems in their states. That's what Pence was asked to do. Remember that the Constitution gives the states' legislatures the responsibility of appointing electors, so it was Constitutionally reasonable for the states to make this request. Now Pence says publicly that he "had no choice" and that his position as VP was only a ceremonial position. Therefore, he couldn't comply. But if that is the case, why did Congress feel compelled to rewrite the Electoral Count act in 2021 so as to "clarify" the law and specifically make the VP position only ceremonial? They would have no need to change the law, if the law had been so black and white about the power of the VP during the count, would they? No. The fact that Congress felt it necessary to change the law is powerful evidence that VP Pence "doth protest too much". Now, what would have happened if Pence had actually done as the states had asked him? The proper thing was that it would have been recognized that this was a question of Constitutional interpretation, and an emergency lawsuit would have been filed and SCOTUS would have decided that matter. That would have been the correct way to do it.
Second part of Trump's real plan: There were approximately 150 Congressmen who had agreed that they would object to the electors' slates from several (4 or 5) states. When the electors roll call began to be called alphabetically, right way there was an objection to accepting Arizona's electors by multiple House members and Senators. Also, an Arizona Congressman entered into the official Congressional record over 1000 pages of info documenting election irregularities in Arizona. At that point, the joint session of Congress recessed, per law, and House and Senate members divided and began to debate the evidence and what to do about the electors. That is why it was MANDATORY for Republicans to appoint the alternate electors (who Democrats misname as "fake electors"). They weren't fake electors. They were the alternates who had to be available in case Congress agreed that the official electors didn't represent the true will of the people in the states. This is the way our election law is set up to handle election malfeasance and alternate electors have been used in several elections in the past. This debate would have ended, per law, in a vote as to whether to accept or reject the Arizona electors. The plans of these 150 Congressmen, as it has been documented, was to either accept the alternate electors if they could convince a majority or, if not, to request a brief pause in counting of 10 days or so, so that individual state legislatures which wished to do so could make an audit of their election and decide which slate of electors to support. This was the actual Trump plan. No some so-called "insurrection".
While the Senators and House were debating separately is when some protesters broke the windows and started to come into the Capitol. Trump obviously never encouraged then to do so. And -- this is a very important point -- their lawlessness was HARMFUL to Trump's plan. It damaged and disrupted his plan. It only benefitted Democrats. There is zero reason for Trump to want his supporters to break into the Capitol. Zero. And does any thinking person really believe that a couple of thousand protesters coming into the Capitol building could prevent Congress from operating? No. The most they could do is to delay Congress for a couple of hours, which is what happened.
Now consider these facts. The minute protesters started to enter the Capitol, the Chief of Capitol Police, Chief Sund, called the House Sargeant of Arms, who is the communications link between Police and Nancy Pelosi, and requested National Guard to be called out. The Sargent told Sund he would "run it up the chain", meaning ask Pelosi for permission. So, right away she said "Yes, please get the Guard here ASAP", right? Wrong. Sworn testimony and records show that she waited 71 minutes to give the go-ahead. An hour ad 11 minutes she waited. And she's the same person who refused to have the Guard in the 1st place. And her party was the only one who stood to benefit from a break-in of the Capitol. Why do I say that?
Because after all the protesters were chased out, then what happened in Congress? Nancy Pelosi re-convened the joint session under "emergency rules" which streamlined normal procedures and prevented Congressmen from going through the same Constitutional process of objecting to electors as they had done for Arizona. And the Arizona discussions by House and Senate were never completed. Convenient for Democrats, wasn't it? So, if the J6 Capitol break-in actually undermined Trump's plans and the plans of Republicans in Congress, why would you accuse Trump of hatching it? Totally clear he didn't.
These are the actual true facts which have come out during the past several years. If you are like many, and you have been under the sway of the J6 Committee and mainstream media propaganda and lies about J6, now you know the facts. And these facts may be researched if you don't believe me. Remember, the J6 Committee refused to seat Republicans. That is because it had no interest in the truth coming out. It was a body whose only mission was to develop propaganda and do a political hit job on Trump.

Contrary to what you have been told, the MAGA movement is very much committed to the American system of government, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the freedoms that they were instituted to protect. You have been lied to about us, and about Donald Trump. On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters were listening to a speech Trump was giving at the White House when the trouble broke out at the Capitol. In other words, we weren't even there, and when we got there we were let in to the building from the opposite side from where the trouble was. We did not break in. Get to know us. Go to a Trump rally (Madison Square Garden?). You don't have to go in. There is always an overflow crowd and you can just go speak with some people in that. You will find we are exactly the people you thought you were supporting the Democrats to align with.

The lack of conflation of religion and politics is what got us into this mess. The founding fathers wanted us to be able to worship as we please; not rid politics of God and faith. When we throw out the 10 commandments and God from the public square, we eventually throw out morals. That was not the original intent. The sheep and the goats are being separated and it's largely along party lines, IMHO. Not saying Republicans are perfect (far from it), but look at what each party supports and it's not difficult to see one that prefers Biblical principals. Ecclesiastes 10:2.

I’m not Jewish, but I think people have mainly been led astray by the PR and “marketing” that the Democrat Party has done for decades to be perceived as the anti-discrimination party.
I think one of the biggest shifts we need to do as a society is to stop speaking in terms like “We need to protect Jewish students from antisemitic threats.”
No, we should all as Americans be able to recognize that these are simply _students_ being subjected to violence and intimidation by a gang of bullies that have been enabled by state inaction. If we only rally together when it’s a problem fueled by antisemitism, we’re not really trying to fix the actual problem at hand. We’re simply creating a special class of victims whose problems receive higher priority, and that in turn will only lead to resentment, bitterness, and anger. Or in other words, it’ll create more antisemitism.

Sometimes an existential threat--such as the party you were told to vote for all your life rejecting you and your people--leads to reexamination of priorities. I went through that very thing when my fellow "liberals" actively attacked and rejected me simply for being straight, white, and male 16 years ago, one of the things that led me to a more conservative outlook, so on that level I can relate.

What I realized was that Democrats weren't really for the poor but was for keeping the poor, poor so they could pass out free stuff to get votes. I realized way back then that their platform was identical to the tenets of communism and their goal was to turn the US into a communist country. I've been proven right. BTW My first Presidential vote was for Ford then Reagan. Until Obama then Biden I thought the worst President in my lifetime was Jimmy Carter... the man who never met a dictator he didn't like.
