I didn't even consider the damage from the debris but that really could have killed someone. Not to mention insurance probably doesn't cover the damage to the vehicles
That Boeing 777 is a beast of an aircraft and the crew flying this one performed flawlessly!!! That 6-wheel bogie main gear design has a nice redundancy built into it. That touchdown upon landing and rollout demonstrated just how substantial the main landing gear design is on the plane. Cudos to Boeing for "bringing another one home".
This is the actual pilot-ATC transmission after loosing the tire: Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to shake!" ATC Buck Murdoch: "She's starting to shake." Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to shimmy!" ATC Buck Murdoch: "She's starting to shimmy." Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to...She's starting.... to" ATC Buck Murdoch: "What... what is she starting to do?" Co-pilot Elaine Dickinson: "She's starting to shudder!" ATC Buck Murdoch: "She's starting to shudder." ATC assistant: "How bad is it sir?" ATC Buck Murdoch: "It's not good, but at least she isn't starting to crack up!" Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to crack up!" Panic erupts in the ATC tower.
Delta recently had a nose wheel come off while taxiing in ATL. I never heard how that happened and I'd love to know how both of these happened. I worked in Mx. for 39 years and I don't think I ever heard of a wheel assy just falling off????
Those wheels are a lot bigger than they appear, one fell off a plane and landed on a freeway, a woman got out of an old van and put it inside. It was filmed and people could not believe she could manage it.
The more Boeing and other companies continue to cut costs, hasten processes, and essentially skimp on legitimacy... well, expect more tragedies and tribulations.
So my fear of parts falling off planes flying overhead is real! Good to know! My question is, how does the entire wheel fall off? Doesn't anyone check their work?
less likely a Boeing design problem but rather a Maintenance problem. No matter what, the maintenance team had the last LOOK/CHECK on the plane prior its departure, and/or someone didn't have all the NUTs tightened down if there was a tire changed earlier. Luckily the driver of that car wasn't nearby when the tire dropped on top of it.
turns out there aren't nuts holding it on. The one large NUT that does hold it on, and is secured by locking hardware is covered with a hubcap that is bolted a safety wired in place. It can't be seen during a walk around.
"Video shows a United Airlines flight losing one of its tires [sic] shortly after taking off from San Francisco bound for Japan" -- no it doesn't; you crack journalists just can't tell the difference between a tire and a wheel!
Blow out of cabin door mid-flight, now a falling tire during take-off; events that do not build confidence in Boeing aircraft when the company has lost its lead to Airbus.
they need to do their jobs. Airlines need to stop hiring warm bodies that arent even old enough to buy beer yet. AND there need to be consequences for things like this when they happen. Been an airline mechanic for over 30 years....this is the reality of it.
"final check" isn't a thing. 75 people could have looked at that and not seen anything. There is ONE big castellated nut that holds that tire on, and it is secured to the axle with 2ea bolts, nuts and washers. THAT is all covered with the hubcap, that is secured with bolts and then safety wired. You CAN'T see the nut holding it on. IF there was an issue, it should have been discovered during the tire change. I have changed hundreds of commercial aircraft tires in my career, and that what we call it, a TIRE change. And no, there isn't an inspector going behind everyone looking at every little thing we do.
Best part of this video was seeing our fellow plane jockey Kevin ray love watching his channel it’s the best
Airline Videos Live. Best aviation channel on UA-cam.
Cool for Kevin! Awesome AVL !
United owes that Somebody a Brand New Car.
UAL is tickled pink that it hit empty cars and no people
You picked a fine time to leave me, loose wheel!
Good one 🤣🤣
CALIFORNIA, the gift that keeps on giving!!!

Whats up with all these aircraft issues recently.
its just boeing as usual
Mayor Pete & DEI
Bad quality control due to costs cuts in order save money while making more revenue.
Pilot: "I'm wheely growing tired of all these interruptions".
Missing bolt?

Idiocracy Movie looking more like a documentary of the future
I’m flying United in a 737-900er in I think 2 weeks over spring break to go to Texas not letting any of these events shake me
It was just tired...
Boeing the gift that keeps giving.😂
Nope not flying on United again thanks
United broke my guitar Excuse me, car.

Ron White's famous joke. The wheel fell the !@#$ Off!!

i call BS
@@justinglass9340 Well the news helicopter filmed it.
Can’t find any news articles where a plan landed on a car. Please provide date and location. Thanks
Who films a plane taking off from the airport?
Were they involved with the wheel falling off.
Was this a terrorist attack?
So many questions.
United isnt the only airlines the have 777.
Mid Flight????
The gear hadn’t been retracted yet.
Modern day college graduate I see!🙄
Why is such a big deal? They have plenty of tires
If its a Boeing, I ain't going
yup same lol
good look getting anywhere then pleb lmao
good look getting anywhere then pleb lmao @@thatonebeone
Fix thumbnail to say at take -off not mid- flight ✈️. Thanks 👍

Is there any part of Boeing planes that they actually screw on and secure?

I thought the Russian planes are the ones that are supposed to be falling apart.

Airline mechanics need to be scrutinized

It’s SF. They’ll blame the incident on the Far Right Republicans for not letting the tire identify as a doughnut.😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 safer by car or transportation
3:05 dont think a flag on a fire truck in the middle of an airport is a good idea.
Why?
non airline vehicles such as construction vehicles are REQUIRED to have them
These types of failures are happening more often! The maintenance team is not doing their job. The final check should have caught this.
