Is there any way to identify that knife from the serial killer near Valentine
I'm not sure if the snake was killed by the religious people.
The snake would have been only a skeleton because it happened about 16 years before the story, but, it could be one of those secrets the devs didn't really pay much attention to detail while making them
www.atlasobscura.com/places/helltown-ohio just looked up the story...
Marcel Don’t know. It wouldn’t look as impressive and ominous if it were just a skeleton.
Video idea : secrets/things people may not know about the gangs within the game
I love the difference between Arthur finding Pleasance and John, Arthur sketches his view point with some pretty accurate detail. John draws a couple of graves and writes I found an abandoned town. John is not one to keep a Journal and write like that, but does it for Arthur.
Thats so wholesome and shows the development of their relationship throughout the game
Shows how experienced Arthur was tbh
Oh yeah, the game almost encourages you to do most of the side stuff with Arthur just because of how good of an artist he is
He's a fast learner but not experienced
Like lenny, he's smart but not experienced yet.
John's handwriting is much better though, which is kind of funny when you think about how much he dislikes reading and etc. in general.
Different theory: the water is contaminated from upstream where all the mining takes place. A few people got crazy sick, shot up the town, ran into the swamps, and became the night folk.
Oh shit wait a second...
Doesnt make sense, whatever river (Kamassa river) carried the contaminate downstream would have contaminated everything in its path, meaning all of bluewater marsh, all of Lagras, Caliga Hall, and half of Saint Denis. Doesnt seem likely...
@@bethanyabrams1 agreed. It just wouldn't only contaminate one small village
Night folk don’t use guns tho.
@@maniacmonkeyy3152 Then what the hell shot me then? I thought they had guns/knives/axes
I remember reading somewhere someone from Rockstar had confirmed that the snake was left over because they tried to do a Legendary Snake, but the physics of a giant snake couldn’t be figured out, when it attacked the physics would get all janky, as you can imagine with the physics engine of RDR, a massive snake would be hard to get right. So instead of that they just draped the snake over a tree as instead.
See, the problem is, there's the meta reason, but then there's the in-universe reason. Like, sure, that may be the meta reason for the snake being there, but in-universe, it's not unreasonable to come to Strange Man's conclusion, that the giant snake is related to Pleasance, since they're so close together.
@@senorsnout4417 Great point. Two valid reasons just one is technical and the other is narrative.
That's what she said 🤣😅
Wait, maybe both are correct. Maybe the snake was supposed to be related to the town, and would be a legendary animal. If it was a side quest it would be even better, like the religious people killed the community but weren't able to kill the snake, or they needed help to take down the satanists, and you would be able to pick a side. I don't know. But this snake had so much potential, and I feel like they definetely could have made a proper animation for it, but they probably didn't want to spend much more time with such a smal thing in the grand scheme of things.
They can do small snakes, just bump it up, they got mods to make animals and people bigger, it’s just upscale versions
It all makes sense now... when the snake died the devil had to take another form..
So it took Micah’s form.
Mr. Obunga • 20 years ago the strange man is the grim reaper. Francis Sinclair is the devil
Or maybe even the strange man
D Wong you should check the theory Francis is the devil I’m pretty convinced. Pretty sure this channel did a video about that too
Didn’t really take a different form, just a different breed of snake...
💀
Some dude in his office chair that designed everything on that snake is like "thank god someone noticed my hard work.:

Yeah he’s happy. It’s the same guy
It looks nothing like the one this video said it was designed after lol

Once as I rode through Pleasance and stopped for a moment I heard a woman's friendly voice. She said something like "don't go". I was absolutely sure that I was completely alone there. That was so scary 😨
Woah!! Did you look around? Was anyone there?

I figured I was hearing things wrong , but throughout the game I swear once in a while I'll hear someone talk and I pan around and no one is there. I even look up into the trees. So it's either got ghosts or some creepy glitches.

All the play happens at night so I’m always expecting it too. I love this channel. Strange Man has these mysteries explained perfectly with great visual vids.
@@mybness1541 I watch them at night too haha always has me on edge and in suspense lol
I’ve always thought that the “stay out plague” sign was a reference to “don’t open, dead inside” from the walking dead
I thought someone healthy had written it on the barn before hiding in it so the sick go and read it and say: well, we cant argue with this logic, and leave
Furyan Auror yeah i heard that the tombstones had to with the walking dead theory. I like the theory in the video better tho cuz it just seems more complicated
DONT DEAD
OPEN INSIDE
your theory pushed me to another theory:) theory about people who was possessed by demons. because zombies have nothing about religion. but demons are - plague and sins. I don't feel like Pleasance people was Satanists. btw who cares about Satanists? I mean who bury them in normal graves and carefully leave those inscriptions? and why these graves still not destroyed if it was nasty Satanists? because those people was a victims, not the enemies. And snake ... it's just a snake In the woods lol
@@smallkotya a rather large snake, but yeah. Perhaps. Next time im near the snake, im gonna eat an apple, just to see what happens.
"Let's take a look at the church."
*no, I don't think I will*
Especially in the dark, lol.
But it's amazing
The moment I scrolled down to this comment, I see it in the actual video. Perfect timing
When you kill an entire town, you don't bury them with headstones.
The murderers were religious people bro.
You do if you’re a Christian. You know, Christian burial? Most Christians I know believe that how you treat the dead is every bit as important as how you treat the living. Rockstar did their homework.
There could be another theory as a an entire gang came and murdered the town, but that doesn't explain the church and the snake
@@scallywag4978 True, I mean that should be common sense though. I say as a Christian myself. Lol
@@scallywag4978 Christians literally believe suicide makes you ineligible for heaven but they’re going to go out of their way to make sure an entire coven of devil worshippers have polished and symmetrical headstones? Not buying it mang
actually, due to the fact that the snake is so large, i would say that the snake is less a reference to satan and more a reference to micah
If you look closely, you’ll see the snake forms the letter ‘M’ with its body. There’s always a bigger snake out there right?
MICAH'S DOUBLE?! WHY THAT GOD DAMN RA... I mean snake.
Dude, your music choice is ungodly. Felt like I was watching a documentary on the Salem witch trials
Was playing RDR yesterday and went by the Pleasance area. Group of bats flew from one of the buildings and spooked my horse - the same thing happened in one of your videos where you shown some "mysterious" secrets in New Austin area.
I'm surprised you didn't point out the fact that if the snake had died near the time when the towns folk did, the snake would have surely decomposed by now but yet there it hangs in the tree still....
Maybe the snake is not dead...
It is CURSED
I thought it was fake when I played the game. No blood comes out of it when shot or anything like that.
@@willflint5014 Maybe the blood dried out
doesn't that further enforce the devil theory, that its not a living thing but something else, something that even decomposers wouldn't touch
I feel like this guy is actually the Strange Man and the whole Red Dead universe it's some sort of enigma made by him and he's just guiding us through it
how was it when u were fab?
Bro I always get the feeling that game is way too immersive like it’s almost not a game how responsive the shit it I mean not really but still it’s fun to think about and tying the strange man, yea he’d definitely be some sort of puppet master in the whole scheme lol

@Kai Klein most likely the dino lady
Probably the strange man👀
While this was a fantastic watch, i feel like the town died of a plague and the snake has nothing to do with it lol
What about the people who got shot and stabbed
I can't decide if i'm an idiot because i actually thought a plague happened there, or strange man is a genius and therefore figured it out.
Probably both.
Probably neither

I've always thought that the town's name was a tribute to actor Donald Pleasence (even though the name of the place is Pleasance) and that the dead (almost all stabbed according to the tombstones) was a reference to Halloween. As for the words on the walls and the snake, I think it is a loose end that this video came to clarify. Good video, greetings from Chile.
I’m 11 months late to this video but did anyone else hear weird sounds coming from the barn when exploring this place? I’ve only heard of a couple of players saying it happened to them and you have to be standing there a while but it happened to me while I was sitting on my phone with the game running. Never heard an explanation for it and it spooks me out lol
I’m 11 months late to your comment haha
I have an theory that could link two big mysteries in the game:
So as revealed in this video, the inhabitants of pleasance were Satanists who were killed by Christians. So now let's move the focus to Saint Denis; as revealed by the street kid in Chapter 4, most of of citizens of Saint Denis are Catholic. But there is one major citizen of Saint Denis who is not, and that is the Saint Denis Vampire. The locations of his writings are in the shape of an upside pentagram, which is the symbol of the Church of Satan, so he is definitely some kind of Satanist or Devil Worshiper. My theory is that the Saint Denis Vampire was once a citizen of pleasance, and the Christians who attacked them were the Saint Denis Catholics, but he survived the attack. I then think that he became a vampire and moved to Saint Denis so he can have his revenge on the Christians who took his life away
Pretty good theory. Saint Denis isnt too far from Pleasance either.
This actually makes sense too
Lumbago Survivor that’s a good theory but I think that is some next level shit. It could be a reference but I don’t think they match but I think it’s a good idea!!
Great theory, sadly impossible to prove
Looking into it way too much budy
I have played this game for hundreds of hours and still there have been so many things that I've missed... However the ones I did discovered made me feel great because there are so many well hidden little details.
"Gamers believe that the town suffered from a zombie plague..."
Ah, I see! So this might be the place where Red Dead 2's Undead Nightmare would start?
"...and that the giant snake"
I see where you're going with this, the snake started the infection! Kind of strange, I've never heard of a snake bite spreading a disease-
"is a reference to Kaa from Jungle Book"
..... What?
Well, the snake did hypnotize, so could make zombies of a sort I suppose. Eat enough human flesh and you change.
technically snakes can spread disease like the great devourer when it bit Garmaddon in lego ninjago
You know,a lot of reptiles don't ever stop growing,so its not hard to imagine this snake was a really old individual, either that,or this snake could've been an endling, the last individual of a species.
There’s no way the fact it’s right across from the Night Folk’s most active area is a coincidence.
The writings on the barn remind those in "The walking dead".
DON'T DEAD OPEN INSIDE
That's probably where the "Zombie plague" theory came from.
Because it was a reference to TWD. This video was a reach imo
The actual history of Hell Town is nothing like this, but equally interesting.
After the Native American tribe Mingo left the settlement for unknown reason, another tribe named Lenape settled down at the site in 1770s after being forced by colonial settlers to relocate from their original home via the Treaty of Easton.
Another reason the Lenape relocated was due to the fact that many of them were Morovians, the Christian pacifist Native Americans who wanted to escape and stay away from the violent battles amid the American Revolution.
After hearing that the word clear was spelled hell in German, Lenape named their new settlement Hell Town to note the clear stream of water nearby. This had nothing to do with actual hell, but gave the inspiration for many urban legends.
In 1782, however, the Morovian Massacare occured, in which 96 Morovians mainly from Lenape were killed by the locoal militia after being falsely accused of helping out the Brits during the revolution and pillaging the nearby settlers' food.
As the aftermath of the massacre, Lenape abandoned Hell Town and settlers came in their place. The settles plowed down the town's grave site of the local Lenape after 1881.
And then as it was explained the video, the numerous features of the colonial town inspired the urban legend theories, but none of them are backed up by the concrete evidences.
Chemical spill theory: No historical record or sign of the chemical spill or giant mutated python. This theory, in fact, was likely inspired from the news of improperly disposed chemicals found by the national park service while cleaning up the abandoned town to establish a national park at the site. However, the theory got so popular that even the nearby locals now celebrate the Python Day.
Satanist theory: Inspired from the upside-down cross design of the town's former church building. However, this is rare, but not uncommon gothic architecture style for a normal church.
Haunted town theory: Inspired by the abandoned school bus and mysterious sightings of the ghostly people even after the town is now fully abandoned. But no record of children ever getting murdered. And the sightings were likely of the people who temporarily lived for a while after the town was abandoned. The theory once again gained the support when the Travel Channel's documentary titled Hell Town in 2019 presented the photos of the town's two missing children as proof, but it was later found out to be the fake stock photos found online. There also was the video of a girl in 2016 getting hunted by creatures and screaming, but the video looks hilariously fake.
Crybaby bridge theory: Rather a recent theroy which claims that you can hear the crying sounds of murdered babies while crossing the town's abandoned bridge. Likely inspired from the town's creepily closed off and abandoned roads. There rumours to be the road named End of the World which abruptly cuts off at the cliff. The dangerously tore down and un-maintained roads are the first reason why the road to the town was shut off, not haivng anything to do with covering up or hiding the paranormal activitieis as the urban myths claim. Also, once again, no record or evidnece of babies or young children ever getting murdered in the former town.
What actually happened was that the town's people were forced to sell their homes to the government and relocate in 1974 to make the space for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which now replaces the town's location. However, the government left the creepy abandoned buildings and graveyard while closing off the town's roads for historical preservation and fire training, which unfortunately generated even more rumours. When all the commotions from the urban legends kept atrracted the negative rumours to the area now named Boston, OH, they finally tored down the old church building and disposed the school bus.
There recently has been the photos of Hell Town's giant sceret underground facility circulating around the web, but hasn't been confirmed or validated.
Sorry to be that guy but that is actually a completly different Hell Town in Ohio (Guess the Ohio memes were right about it) The one referenced in the video used to be known as Boston. The Government bought all the property to add it to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park forcing Boston to be abandoned. Also Hell means Bright in German

This is honestly some of the best editing I've seen in a mystery video. It gives me so many nostalgic vibes from san andreas mystery videos from the 2000's.
Dude yes that or the xfiles music
Two things seemed like a bit of a stretch with this video, the supposed resemblance of the in-game snake to the one in some dumb museum in Kentucky and the community being Satanic. The snake doesn't look one bit like the one in the museum. Also, the church not having a cross could mean a number of things. The community could've just been very different than what the locals were used to and thus killed them in a mob. But that also seems like bit of a stretch because why would the mob then kill people they saw as sinners and evil, just to respectfully bury them in a cemetery with tombstones and all?
I think the snake has nothing to do with the community especially since it is pretty far from it, and it's just a reference to Kaa. Does look more like Kaa than the one in the museum. Additionally, the town is just a reference to a sickness that plagued it, and the words painted were by people who thought they deserved the sickness they suffered from because they were different.
I love your videos they never feel like clickbait or like they drag on too long for content always straight and to the point it's nice

Wild theory that came to mind whilst watching this - What if the snake actually drove the townsfolk to kill each other? I’ll explain:
So someone wondered into the woods outside of Pleasance and discovered the snake one day, then went back and told everyone about what they had seen. Some believed it, but others did not and took the stance that the person who claimed to have seen the snake was just insane, as was all those who believed the claim. Perhaps even going one further, the person who first found the snake believed it to be Satan incarnate and thought that the town was cursed by the Devil as he is so near, hence the “Unclean sinners” and such messages then being daubed on the house and barn.
The whole situation eventually spiralled into a complete massacre of the townsfolk between the “clean” and the “unclean”, and the few townsfolk who were lucky to survive then buried the dead and abandoned the town thereafter.
Either that, or this is just a very crystal clear cut nod from Rockstar to a future Undead Nightmare.
I like this theory
i like this theory a lot, it would explain why there’s only 10 headstones (i know it’s a small town, but still, the school alone seemed capable of holding 10 people) and also why the headstones were crafted at all. had outsiders come to the town to destroy it, they probably wouldn’t have bothered with proper burials. but family and friends of those who died, people who lived in the community, would’ve taken that time and care after the craziness had died down.
as for it being abandoned, after such a horrible event, why wouldn’t you leave the site of such an atrocity behind? this is almost definitely a town that turned against itself (although i agree it seems to be inspired by the urban legend of helltown)
Also in the Bible ,satan first appears as snake/serpent in a tree.

The game also hints at other demonic things too. Look at Butcher Creek and the girl trapped behind Braithwaite Manor. In each outhouse at Butcher creek, there is a number inscribed on the inside wall-1 to 5- when you draw lines connecting them in order, it forms a pentagram. If you walk around Butcher creek and hang out enough you hear rumor of a demon in that area. It all ties back to Gertrude, behind the Manor. She's possessed. I was playing RDR2 the other day, and at night I was walking around the town, and in 3rd and first person something kept shoving me and knocking me over. But no NPC's or animals were nearby. A couple irl days before I was running in the woods around Butcher creek at night and I saw two yellow eyes at head height.... so think what you want.

ehhh this feels like a stretch in terms of the references, but damn if it isn't a fun theory to think about though! the fun thing about concepts open to interpretation is seeing all the ways it can be read :)
Thank God for this vid.. I can't imagine just riding around one day and seeing that snake.
Never clicked on a notification so fast 😅
I was riding trhough the swamps at night with a full moon lightinh the trees when I crossed this giant snake hanging, it's scared the shit out of me, I will remember it for a long time
Thank you for your video! i wandered here in online a few days ago and was gonna explore, when unfortunately my character got jammed in a fireplace (i thought thered be gold hidden inside, whoops), and i was forced to log out. by the time i returned to the game, i had already forgotten where it was, and had respawned way off track. Thank you :D
"A nice place to visit, a better place to leave."
Oh holy hell
Man, this became inevitably clear but, more than that, kudos to the editor of the video. A-grade work right here 👍🏻😎
Another thing is: if you read the cause of death written on the tombstones; all of the people at Pleasance died either from a gunshot/ knife wound. They were basically massacred.
I shot the graves in pleasance in a specific order (the order of the strange statues) and the giant snake disappeared.
Helltown is just urban legends spun around the abandoned town of Boston Ohio. The truth is that in the 70's, the Cuyahoga park system wanted to expand, and it bought up as much land from Boston Twnshp as it could, kinda forcing its residents out of town. They preformed lucrative ways to get people to move out, eventually pulling the 'Eminate Domain' on the few left. The parks soon ran out of money, realising this was a waist of time, and tried to get the residents to buy the land back, even after some of the homes have already been demolished. No one moved back.
It was pretty much hell for the residents who have history in the area. The legends came around later as the area began to get over grown and urban explorers started running around the place. There is also a documentary on it
Imagine a guy at rockstar going "bloody hell, I just put in a snake cause they are cool, I didn't expect this"
"The 10 residence that lives here died" ? Who buried them ? 😂😂
Probably the locals.
The snake. Rolled his sleeve up & got his hands dirty. Would've been a great addition to the Van Der Linde gang....
@@captainclassic2740 no locals bro all dead 😂😂
@@johnnybensonitis7853 🤣🤣🤣 great addition 🤣🤣🤣
Interesting that the snake hasn’t decomposed at all. I’m not super clear on the timeline though and I’m not sure about the rate of decomposition
Murdered the whole town...then buried them with personalized tombstones...
That big snake died from hunger when searching for the biggest rat of all time-Micah!
I like how you said both of these theories are incorrect and I 100% trusted you
First one of these that seems extremely weakly-connected to me. Neither the "Pleasance = Helltown" or snake segments were any more convincing than the theory that the snake is a reference to Kaa. Plausible, but not particularly compelling. I'm disappointed! Will definitely continue watching though.
I feel the same. No hard evidence to back up the claim, that other theories are incorrect. But he can't get it right everytime. Video was edited great and it was creepy. Also it makes no sense, that they all get killed like they were pure evil, but the killers were kind enough, to bury all of them and give them tombstones. That doesn't add up.
Maybe the snake was the strange man himself, the purple bottles inside the building near by say “Cholera relief for man or beast”. Maybe when the painting of him is done he is reborn for the first game lol
I just started rewatching rdr 1 and in one of the first missions theres a place called pleasance house around armadillo. It could have a connection to this abandon city.
This game is horrifying in ways no "Horror Game" can be.
Of course, Ohio
These videos are the best.
omg I just started to walk into Rhodes and I heard npcs talking about a evil snake with voodoo and how big it was
I just found this video and I'm psyched. I live a couple miles away from Helltown. What a cool reference!
These are not facts bud. Just your speculation.
These kind of comments baffle me, truly. It's a personal youtube channel - he doesn't work for Rockstar Games so obviously it's speculation... that's the point???
If Guarma was actually finished, I bet that Anaconda would have been a legendary animal you could have found on the island
9:28 they did it again. There are so many biblical references in the Red Dead Series, the ones that I know, I uncovered myself
Sometimes I wonder if a dev for this game ever watched this and thought "nice story, but that snake is there because Dave really loves snakes"
Me too. And its really difficult to know that because Rockstar´s devs don´t give interview or speak in interviews very often.
i dont think snake was theri just bcz DEV love snake we already know R* gave a lot of easter eggs including real life incidents. only qstn i have that if locals killed that giant snake why we dont counter any one in the game whos been speaking abut this snake i mean itsa huge snake people might go crazy, also how they killed this giant snake, we dont see any injured side or marks all over its body its totlly clean.
😂
@@LONEWOLF-yq9uk well everyone in the town DIED so nobody would have talked about it
@@gavindelgado3560 what about the people who actually came over and massacred the town? If I killed some massive python that had been deified by Satanists, I wouldn't stop talking about it for years
Huh, looks like Micah is just chilling in a tree
Funny because I though I saw him in an alley in saint denis
Chill he's in boths places
FACTS
Lol
lol, secret final bossfight - Snake Micah XD
Really wished they had a Legendary Python in the game, would've been hectic. Oh well, Micah was as close as we got.
legendary rat
He was the legendary python
Legendary python who ate legendary rat
@Poop LOL
Lol Micah the rat, and Dutch the snake. Though Micah's a perfect mix: a hybrid rat-snake.
I thought that the “stay out plague” barn was a walking dead Easter egg
There's still the chance that it is. Could be an easter egg within an easter egg.
Don't dead open inside?
It is. The "plague" was the zombie virus from the first RDR and the graves are the loved ones who turned and had to be put down. This town is a reference or even the origin of the Undead Nightmare DLC from RDR. The theory in this video is incorrect sadly.
Also the fact that this game is a prequel to the first RDR and the graves with headstones. This isn't no satanist massacre lol
@@iamjohn117suckit The fact this game is a prequel means the events you just described would not yet have happened, correct? Therefore your theory must be incorrect.
“You remember the snake from the jungle book they put in red dead?”
“You mean satan?”
Yeah this theory is pretty wack
No it is right rockstar loves Easter eggs so you can be right
@@snaker9er irl a circus truck crashed near helltown and thats where they actually think the snake came from, i can almost guarantee that the snake is from the dude who crashed one in the game and lost the tiger. it might be a biblical reference too but idk why no ones thought of that
@@raysinnott2674Yes you are right. Rockstar loves Easter eggs that's why its more likely a Easter egg to the jungle book than to... Satan
Gage Loyst That’s a good point
One strange thing about the giant dead snake is that it doesn't seem to decay or rot. Even during the Epilogue.
Neither does Mrs Braithwaite
No I went to the house in the epilogue and she wasent there. she was only there pre epilouge
@@jordanflores6174 cause she's crispy
yeah....when i get there in epilogue there was NO snake at all
i went there in epilogue and it is there@@Voodeville
I could see the devs watching this like “maybe we went a little too far”
I like how it shows the insolence and barbaric side of religious groups at the time. But it's funny to think there may have been after thought lol
Or maybe a dev made this video lol I think we all got our own theory about this channel
I don't think R* understands the concept of "too far". Have you ever played any of their other games? Hahaha.
Eric Yoder no because if you read the graves that are in pleasance, every person in the town died on the same day and on some graves it says they were stabbed and on other graves it says they were shot, it was a full blown massacre. I originally thought it was just the plague too.
I dunno, man. If even Nintendo made an Aokigahara (Suicide Forest) reference in Ocarina of Time (a game for CHILDREN), why can't Rockstar make these spooky rabbit holes?
Two things keep surprise me :
- the depth of this game that is actualy unreal
- all the work that you're putting into breaking mysteries and find what hides behind
you're the best RDR2 content creator i know, keep up the good work :D love and support from France
Tugga if your interested in rdr2 cinematic type things you should check out voyagers revenge they are really good
Still mind blown these things exists the average would never notice. Heck I frequently ride by this place and didn't find the snake.
Hell yeha this Guy is THE BEST
I'm half convinced that he either works for Rockstar or knows someone who worked on this game.
Fabian Garcia you right mate i already know him and i fw all his videos he’s the new Sergio Leone
