Thanks man you rock! My 12 year old wants to dress like his grandfather did in WWII (I know do the math, my dad would have been 105 yrs old). I purchased a pair from a surplus store with no laces. You have made my day!
I was in the Boy Scouts in the 1970’s. They had smaller copies of these that were still an official optional part of the Boy Scout uniform back then. I wore them for camping and hiking. They came with instructions and I figured them out as an 11 year old.
This has saved our Christmas! My 10 year old son was struggling to figure out how to put these on and you have saved the day! Thanks very much! Merry Christmas!
good video. i always liked the look of the legging vs the 2 buckle boot. did reenacting years ago, was difficult to use these. troops probably didnt remove these very often.
There was that problem with putties too (although to a lesser extent). It was thought to be one of the reasons why the British were more prone to trench foot than the Germans in WW1. Jackboots being far easier to take on and off making changing socks less of s pain compared to low boots and putties.
I wear a pair all the time when I go out walking where I might get junk in my shoe or my feet wet. They go great with my roughout boots. I love em. I don't think they're that bad personally. I can get em on pretty quick. I also just realized from your video that my pair is 1 size too big. lol
I’m here in the good old USA, and I would agree that these suck from a living history buff standpoint! While I love the look, they are the most irritating WWII garments at least for American uniforms, that I’ve ever used. The double buckles are my favorites as with most reenact-ors. But I did not know how to tie them off at the end, so thank you for that! There’s not much info I’ve found on how to tie them.
Got Miles technology repros, one eyelet missing at the top, also part of hooks mangled. Other wise I still use them rubbed candle wax over the stitching and metal parts to help them from any deterioration. Good video thanks.
Thanks for the comments. I love those G. I. Leggings..just wish I had a real U. S. Army pair. The Harley Davidson of leggings.. Where can I get them,,?
I'm a new reenactor at the USS Missouri and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum (PHAM). It's going to take some practice to do leggings. I'm use to wearing jungle boots.
I have 2 pairs of these. Green and khaki. I've always assumed one was marine corps issue but never did the research to know for sure. Do you have any idea?
a very nice tutorial. Thanks I have a question for you. My service shues are a size (or two) too big and everytime that I wear them for a longer time, I get blisters on the back of my heal. Can I do anything... besides "tuffing it out"?
Awesome stuff cool vid. They look like a giant pain in the ass but can see the utility maybe some modern manufacturing with elastic and fixed loops would make them a lot more practical.
To me it would make more sense to use a buckle closure rather than laced. Them being a lot simpler to use just as adaptable. The only advantage I can think of for laces would be the ease of manufacture and logistics but that doesn't count for much when people don't want to wear them.
I bought a pair of Sturm Mil-tec leggings size 4 for $20 on Ebay and I'll try them out more once I get the right type of low boots in my size. My shoe size is 14 Which I had to go to size 15 for my original unissued double buckles which I got dirt cheap.
Their purpose was to provide ankle support and protection for the lower legs. They were cheaper and more breathable than making taller leather boots. They also kept water and debris out of your boots.

Honestly leggings like that just look plain stylish to me, like they just appear very classy to me

Best how to I have found! The top holes appear to confuse some people and they get a bit crazy with tying it off. Thanks!
Happy to help

Well they suck to put on and take off

Thanks for doing the tutorial

It's the same for french leggings, because french leggings are copies of US leggings 38. 😉
Very good vidéo, thanks.
Geez. Now I know why Germans and Soviets just wore Jackboots.
I have 2 pairs of these. Green and khaki. I've always assumed one was marine corps issue but never did the research to know for sure. Do you have any idea?
Nevermind. I'm an idiot. Your video answered my question in real time right after I asked it
@@nate9221 happy to help
@@DevinK thanks Devin. Always watch the full video before you spout off with dumb questions. Lesson learned
Thanks for doing the work that we don't
The instep strap on mine are really long. I passed mine through the middle space in the buckle, then down through the toothy part and back up.
You might just have to large of a size
@@DevinK it's the right size for my calves, but my legs are on the shorter side. 🤷♀️
@@vickytroyan1009 they do make shorter ones
I have a repro USMC ones.

Multiple pairs of socks
Thanks
They are a pain to put on but I always liked the way they looked especially with the trousers sorta bloused over them, like in original photos.
Awesome stuff cool vid. They look like a giant pain in the ass but can see the utility maybe some modern manufacturing with elastic and fixed loops would make them a lot more practical.
Can you make a comparison of a repro m1938 and a original one, btw nice video 👍🏽
What repro

Sorry Mil, Tec. Reproduction.
I coøect ww2 us stoff and i hate and love the leggings
Us hade best stufff in ww2
So good they changed everything even the color by halfway… because it all sucked
Damn, quality type 2 reproductions are expensive.
Seems like it's cheaper to get a pair of corcoran 1511s, and just cut off a couple inches
Yeah at least I’d didn’t pay for them
@@DevinK Damn, how do you go about scoring free boots, and does it require making UA-cam videos for like six years?
@@shurdi3 no unfortunately it’s harder then that it’s part of my wardrobe for a movie

I'm here because I saw these in the movie "Saving private Ryan". Exactly what is their purpose? Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭🖐🏼
