  • TEACHER DEMO. Composed by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), this song has been adapted for the piano from one of his String Quartets. This is an excellent song for working on that "Alberti-Bass" pattern in the Left Hand and is great preparation for the Sonatinas and Sonatas to come.

    I keep coming back! I hadn't played this little piece in a while so before I began - decided to first check out Norma's version...and as expected, always good! Thank you for posting all of these.

    I agree! The tempo that I recorded this song at is faster than an "Andante" (which is a slower walking tempo). I simply prefer it at a tempo of "Moderato".

    Day 3....I can do either hand easily, getting them to work together is tough. I'm just on page 1 and moving a little bit quicker. For the Alberti base I wrote in the I, IV , and V symbols so that I didn't need to try to watch both the treble and base.

      Great idea to analyze the chords in the left hand. It helps to think of them as a group rather than individual random notes. --Norma

    What a challenging piece. That 4th line was giving me quite a bit of difficulty. It took me about a week to play that section correctly. I appreciate the challenge though. There were too many easy pieces in book two. It didn't feel really rewarding. I already feel more accomplished getting this far into book three than I did at any point in book 2.

      I LOVE book 3. It's my favorite!! Many great pieces in here. --Norma

    Actually quite like this piece at this tempo. Can’t play it that fast yet, but still like it nonetheless. 👍

      Thank you!! Great to hear more opinions on the tempo debate. It's been 5 years now since I made this recording, and I still think it's fun at this tempo. But there are other songs that I play at a different tempo now than when I first learned them. When I was in my teens, I played the 1st movement of the Moonlight Sonata waaay tooo fast. I play that one much slower now. Maybe I have more patience. :) --Norma

      It sounds good if it's slow too

    It sounds so much nicer when someone else is playing like this. Sort of like how other people's food looks better than your own.

    The piece is so boring at andante, I agree with how you sped it up.
    But on the other hand (literally), Alberti bass makes me cry.

      Thank you for your honesty about the tempo and the left hand challenges!! But Alberti bass is totally worth the effort. There are so many great songs that use it. Keep at it. It will get easier with time and practice. I promise!! --Norma

    Well played and very enjoyable. A little slower would be just perfect.

      Yes, that seems to be the consensus. I should have recorded it at a slower tempo. Too much energy and enthusiasm that day. :) --Norma

    Essa peça é um andante portanto está muito rápida!

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  6 років тому

      Concordo! O tempo em que gravei essa música é mais rápido do que um "Andante" (que é um andamento mais lento). Eu simplesmente prefiro em um ritmo de "Moderato".

    Beautiful! I've been working on this piece about a month now. Still struggling with the last measure of the first page. I simply can't seem to get it right and I have to slow way down to get it at all. Any suggestions? You make it look effortless!

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much! I would isolate just that measure and practice it hands separate a lot until it feels like it's on "auto-pilot", then put it hands together very slowly. Then back-up one measure and work on playing just those 2 measures slowly and carefully until you can transition seamlessly from one to the next and maintain a consistent tempo. --Norma

    Je pense aussi que le tempo est trop rapide.

    It should not have pedal

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, sometimes I do it without pedal or with less pedal. I made this video about 6 years ago, and I've been finding that I use less pedal than I used to on much of my Baroque and Classical music. Maybe I'm finally growing up. :)

    This is just the "Serenade."
    The tempo of serenade cannot be such "impatient" or "rush."

    Why the left hand is boring

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  4 роки тому

      That's a very standard "Alberti-Bass" pattern which is used a lot in the Classical Period for the Sonatinas and Sonatas. Yes, it is repetitive, which allows for a focus on the right hand melody. --Norma
