To answer your question I think Locations are "fine" but they exacerbate my biggest issue with Lorcana. If you are behind, they don't help you catch up, and if you are ahead, they just put you that much further ahead. Going second continues to feel worse and worse every set. And I don't personally enjoy the "chase" where you often lose matches without getting much lore on the board because you are just chasing down the first/fast player the whole time. I also don't like how much removal doesn't effect them. Why doesn't Tinkerbell also ping every location for one on entry? Why doesn't big 7 cost Scar ready himself when taking out a location? Why can't I spend my hard earned 3 ink to use Smash, a measly 3 dmg, on a location? Oh but Ursula can draw 4 cards by tilting sideways and having FOTOS in hand? Hunh? Really don't understand their design at times. Thanks for the video, I like these.
Some great choices here. Good to see Perdita and torpedo Stitch getting some love. Stitch has been by far my favourite character to play from discard with Perdita. And Kit Cloudkicker is downright painful to play against!
I played locations a little bit in two different draft events and didn't really walk away with a good sense of them one way or another, but that is probably due to a lack of knowledge on my part. However, when it comes to constructed, I'm loving the play lines and decisions they add to the game. Sometimes they are just good to have out to force your opponent to exert characters they wouldn't have otherwise, exposing them to being challenged. I especially loved playing them in a ruby/steel pirate location deck. Nothing felt better so far, than playing several 1 cost locations when John Silver was already on board. Resist +4 or Quest for 5 each -- I'll take one of those options any day.
Trust me, when you face an opponent that sticks some 2 lore 2/3 cost characters and follows it up with an Agrabah turn 4 as well, you start to feel how opressing a land can be xD
I love the chernabog's follower/ motonui interaction so much it made me build purple/blue. basically turns the follower into a how far I'll go after questing. Easily my fave card interaction of the set. On heart of ta fiti though, I couldn't think you were more wrong. Yes, song discard means you can't always rely on using whole new word to refill your hand. But you can still play around it. You still have develop your brain and the pawpsicle engine, and the new 4 cost gramma tala. Or even hide and seek, to peep the song removal so you can just ink them away with the quill for value. heart of ta fiti in comparison, will always be too slow. Always. the 2 cost to activate is just too prohibitive I think.
Great video. I'm surprised by how effective the locations can be. Never Land (in addition to Wendy Darling) has made my Amber Amethyst Hyper Aggro deck much more resilient in Steel match ups. Also, the character Kida. It's pronounced Kee-duh. I'm a huge fan of Atlantis.
I'm even more bullish on The Bare Necessities than you are. I think it should be an auto 4 of in any Amber Deck. I'm even playing 4 in Mufasa because it's that strong it's worth the nombo with the deck's namesake
Agree with everything here. The only one that i think people are sleeping on that wasnt on here is Prince Eric. As an Emerald Steel player i hate that card. Single handedly made me remove grab your swords from my deck. Happy to have mother knows best and cloudkicker, but that is a forced play on 5 when i would rather be doing cool stuff.
I've been running Heart of Tefeti in my ruby saphire deck...and it's Trash IMO. It should either cost 1 ink to use it... OR the card should go into your inkwell not exerted. It's almost never worth wasting the 2 ink to get 1 extra ink next turn. It defeats the purpose of ramping if you have to pay 5 ink..to get 1 extra ink next turn. At least with fishbone it's a 1 time cost. I'd much rather use any and all of the other Ramp options... especially the songs.
