Good video, but I'm not liking the transition to this new style of video. It feels too bland; too produced. I prefer the old style of video where Norm's various interviews would come before a section where Norm talked to the camera alone about his personal thoughts on what he'd just seen. The scripted voice over just feels "meh" compared to Norm's usually very insightful, unscripted thoughts at the end.
Inappropriate use of aluminum slip-on frame fittings. Next time use Modern Studio's steel fittings, reinforce with chain/batten clamps tied into the building. Also, this video confirms Cameron's Avatar was a Government project.
How long until they just make episodes of Nova? I like the interview, but it feels like it could be better used in a television documentary; as I want to see more info on the topic.
+Zwenk Wiel a thought devoid of knowledge of the past. People have been talking about the move towards antisocial behavior since before your grandparents were born.
+Zwenk Wiel Ok there bud. You do know you are equally wrong about just as many things we don't know about yet? If we shouldn't take the knowledge of the past to seriously we wouldn't get anywhere. Especially sociopolitical knowledge as so many seemingly new situations have actually been mirrored for thousands of years. And yes smart phones are a new thing that hang some fundamental things about being human, but the move towards convenience and so called anti social behavior is not new at all.
The environment they were shooting it looks like it had a TON of interference. All those IR blasters, workstations, and wireless equipment... I'm surprised they got any sound.
How about Norm being the most annoying host on this channel? I can't be the only one who cringes when a decent video is uploaded, and then his smug little face appears. He always has something to say.
I see a lot of stuff that even I have in my games room....things like Pc's with GTX1080, HTC VIVE, Track IR , 3D printers... and Beamers ...solder iron.. this is household science .. NICE !
Interesting video, and Norm actually doesn't speak 90% of the time (it's my only gripe with him as a host, he ALWAYS wants to add something or ask long questions. Sometimes this is necessary, but i prefer things simple :) Shame of the audio mixing though
Can I submit a proposal for Tested to do a DIY telescope, but not just any telescope, a planet X stile telescope? With an app for people to search each part of the sky to find planet X. The reason is It will spur us on to colonize space, because the only way we can reach the planet in our own solar system in our lifetimes is to go at part of the speed of light. That means the fringe movements like Breakthrough Starshot will have real momentum to send small chip satellites close to the speed of light to it.
Yo Norm. Loving this content, its really in depth and stuff we arnt seeing anywhere else. Also the is really good at giving the videos direction, brilliant new addition. Keep it up.
Videos like this from you guys have made me worried that playstation VR may suck because it may not have some of these important features or the potential to implement them in the future. It's the one I'm most interested in but also may be too limited
isn't the thumbnail just a Oculus made into a Vive? as you just used Leap Motion in VR - I want you to visit the Leap Motion again. the third generation of software is out for some time already and it's focused on VR. just tape the controller a Vive or Rift and play the Blocks demo. after that try out more demos and games. I would love to hear your impressions. there is AltspaceVR... where avatar meet in VR and ir works with Leap Motion. you can talk to people like fans in a very natural environment.
So could wireless vr be a thing by allowing a mobile (or another device) to communicate to a computer. Coz that would be nice as there would be no bulky cable and hopefully cheaper as the computer would not be required to do as much work so a lower end computer could be used saving money.
go fuck yourself. Those are quick and dirty prototypes. If you're designing a nice looking case and packaging for all your prototypes, you're doing something wrong.
Same as AR on a phone. I have minecraft for Oculus and there's a "3D Rendering" setting. when you turn it off, it stops being 3D ands it's like you're in a 360 bubble.
I'm curious about redirected walking. There are groups of people that are supposed to be able to always know which way is North, even when in doors. How do these people handle VR? How do these people handle a redirected walking experience?
Very interesting
It has come a long way, huh?
Very interesting video! I would love to see more videos about VR research!
I like the voice over for this type of video.

"edited by Tywen Kelly", perhaps has something to do with it?

sick, can't wait to get my Oculus Rift antler edition.
It was so awkward watching that dude explaining things with hand gestures while Norm was using VR..
I think it was more for the audience than for Norm.
happens a lot

First :)
Guys please apply some HPF to the voice over next time :)
So, how many years, how many hardware generations, before consumer devices give us peripheral VR/AR?
its in the lens technology, making lenses that gives good peripheral vision is going to be hard and expensive
Bad audio mixing, AGAIN?!?!
The environment they were shooting it looks like it had a TON of interference. All those IR blasters, workstations, and wireless equipment... I'm surprised they got any sound.
I'm talking about Norm being only on the right channel at times. That's patently the worst way to pan spoken voice.
How about Norm being the most annoying host on this channel? I can't be the only one who cringes when a decent video is uploaded, and then his smug little face appears. He always has something to say.
LOL Norm is the best host
What is up with the sound quality in this video?
Quality is good. Mixing/editing not so much.
the fap heaven
How effective were their redirected motion techniques? Were they able to successfully steer you inside the room without causing disorientation?
They're other video is dedicated to that exact topic.
+ByteMe thanks for the heads up! I somehow missed that video.
iplop No problem! It's refreshing to see someone nice in a UA-cam comment section :D

We are more excited with MixedReality (MR)
MR brings fun n magic to our daily life!

9:20 So soon I will have a drone that follow's me around like a video drone companion?.. Can it please have the voice of Nolan North?
what happens if you put vr stuff over one of those super intelligent robots that can see, and have said they'd like to kill humans?
Nice one Norm. I'd watch an hour of this stuff in a second... or you know, an hour, but the first hour after I saw it was released.
fflooon ess mouch too blky but I showed up to have a locay and say why would a Bg ci r cl S be here...
just put a ball in the floor with a sensor so when you walk you dont move but your character moves in game
Anyone else confused when they saw MxR in the video, i was thinking of MxR mods ahaha
USC is not the University of Southern California it's the University of South Carolina
Gave a kid a Tricycle toy had elect v bx..cool stuff.ltl hnds..

It probably is exactly that, they've likely been working on that for years, Vive kinda came out of no where...
Still dont know how Sup r man flies wind..maybe wires .le
Well done on the new style of production. I think it is really great.

Intel made a wireless headset. Microsoft headset (ar) is also wireless
theres something odd about the audio in the beginning. not sure whats causing it but eh
Is this lab also working on positional tracking for cardboard?
From an engineering perspective those vr headsets were built horribly
Well, it's a proof-of-concept prototype....
+xureality my prototypes don't look anything like that dude
they probably are just building enough of it so they can go back to testing whatever they were working on
go fuck yourself. Those are quick and dirty prototypes. If you're designing a nice looking case and packaging for all your prototypes, you're doing something wrong.
shows what u know lmao
I wonder how VR would work on someone with non-convergent eye sight in which 3D simply doesn't work?
Same as AR on a phone. I have minecraft for Oculus and there's a "3D Rendering" setting. when you turn it off, it stops being 3D ands it's like you're in a 360 bubble.
hope they didnt leave their toy at chrch..food bx
I really enjoyed this more technical content!
Terribly messy worktable. Looks bad.
They need their mothers to come and clean up.
Norman sounds awfully quiet
hey milli wheres the 7 legged ...could I..

Omg these guys are amazing. So excited about the projects they are working on.
