Of all the reviews of this watch on the internet (I’m pretty sure I’ve watched them all), yours was the most useful. Thank you for the extra info on the strap and wheel - my titanium race s is in a box in my flat but I can’t open it until Christmas Day! Thank you for the content, really enjoy it.
This means the world ❤️ I’m glad you found the video of benefit! No worries, it seems like a little thing but I think the small details (strap & wheel) really matter when you choose a watch as your daily driver 🫶🏽 Ahhhh bring on Christmas then, not long to wait now Dave 🎄🎅🏼🎁 A pleasure mate, more to come!
I wear the watch mainly from the knowledge of your review, I am very satisfied with it. However, I have to criticize the accuracy of GPS when swimming in open water, my previous garmins were completely different in terms of accuracy (fenix6, fr245, i2x). after more than 30 minutes of swimming, they measured 89 m during one swim, which is unreal, or after swimming, my watch did not show the distance swum, and when I finished the activity, it showed me the distance only after that. I haven't tried the pool yet, I hope it will be better. thank you for your work, greetings from Slovakia.
Greetings Slovakia! 🇸🇰 ❤️ I was in the indoor swimming pool last night.. everything worked great 👏🏽 A shame to hear about the open water swimming.. I don’t do enough of this to test this and it’s bloody FREEZING in the UK right now 🤣🤣 I’ll have to wait for a holiday ✈️

@@darren6531 thanks for the comment Darren! You can’t change the font size BUT the font is pretty big compared to other watches the same size! 👍🏽 You can customise the data pages on the activity profiles too to make bigger text (grid size) and things. Great video as always though one tiny complaint I don’t like how the camera changes from centre view to another angle then goes back to centre view? Just find it jarring when you’re talking lol But other than that, love your videos 👍

@@user-dart a pleasure ❤️ Unfortunately, this watch only has “music controls” but I prefer this anyway because it means I can play all my Spotify playlists and usually carry my phone/headphones. I prefer this to spending hours waiting for mp3 files to download like on Coros for example. Hope this helps 🌟
Thanks for the review, it surely is a very beautiful watch! I just got mine today and I really like it so far but i notice the crown to be a bit stiff, is that normal? It’s like you have to actually apply some preassure to make it spin, in mh other watch the crown was substantially easier to scroll, I am a bit concerned about if this is normal behaviour or not
@@sergiviles6214 I did find mine to be a little stiff but it does loosen up after a little bit of use! I honestly see this as improvement from the Race S Steel which, to me, feels too loose! Hope this helps ❤️ If it doesn’t loosen up (pretty sure it will) send it back before its return date 🫶🏽

can you pair more than one heart rate monitor to the watch? Say if I have three HRMs and pair all with the watch. Saw something on another review which suggested only one could be paired at any time.
I honestly have no idea.. I’ve never tried to pair 3 chest straps to one watch at the same time. 🤣 I heard something about that too but it doesn’t affect me in the slightest. I think if you do lots of virtual training (peloton, Zwift) then you’ll maybe hit these connection limits.. when you’re trying to connect power-metres, chest straps, bike trainers, zwift, cadence/speed sensors all at the same time. But I think people who train like this probably have the funds to drop $1000 on a Garmin anyway 🙈 But yeah.. in 3 years of training with Suunto (ultra runner/cyclist with occasional indoor training).. I’ve never ran into these issues. Hope this helps
@ActiveIdeas thank you for the reply. Yeah i don't connect more than one device to the watch at a time, though have two arm band and one chest strap HRMs. When the batt in one arm band dies, i use the other, and use the chest strap for speed work and racing. All three are paired with my devices, Polar vantage V2 and Garmin bike computer. Can pick up any of the HRMs and it will connect fine. Would be a pain to have to go through the pairing new device process if I pick up the wrong strap!
yeah its crazy that they didnt add sapphire, for 100e+ i will prefer saphire over titanium same solidity even if it's lighter. any advice for my first watch for trail running ? suunto race or race s or coros pace pro ?
Until Coros adds music controls and a temperature sensors widget.. I just can’t use any of their watches as an EDC. As someone who loves sauna, ice plunge, camping a temperature widgets is a must for me. I also love playing music through my phone and it’s awesome being able to control that with Suunto. Coros make some great watches and if I was going to buy a Coros right now it would be the Pace Pro but as someone who loves data I thinks I’d personally get more from Suunto’s platform. But until I get the Pace Pro in my hands.. there’s not really much more I can say about it 🤷🏽♂️ With regards to sapphire screens.. the durability of the Gorilla Glass has impressed me.. I really have been a worst case scenario for these watches, constantly bash them into things and you can see in this video how good the Race S screen still looks after 6 months with no screen protector 🙈 Anyways, hope I helped and I’ll have a Pace Pro comparison coming soon ❤️
Great video 👍, i'm about to purchase the race s titanium. But not sure to get it with the white or grey strap. Have you see the grey in person or just the white/yellow i've seen in your videos? Either way i'm sure it will looks great in person Thanks
How is the original race UI fluidity compared to the S? Some have mentioned they think the S version has a newer processor and is a lot more fluid than the 49mm race. The maps experience also seems much improved on the S.
@@cdd543 Having tested both heavily I have to say… I call bullsh*t on this one 🙈 It could be true that they have different internals (including a different processor) but I haven’t personally noticed any differences in speed to warrant thinking this. There have been lots of updates since the original Race was released a year ago.. I know some reviewers were heavily critical of the speed back then 🤷🏽♂️ Maybe the updates and the growing love for Suunto is the reason why people are seeing the UI running more smoothly now.. but yeah, after reading your comment I’ve put them both side by side and my OCD brain still can’t tell a difference 🔥 Hope this helps mate ❤️
The road names on the map would be nice, but for a runner the smoothness of the rendering and accuracy of the compass is miles ahead of any other sports watch. Zone Sense is also an exclusive feature in suunto watches and it's a new way to control the heart effort besides heart rate. I actually see only one flaw and it is the optical heart rate sensor. I keep seeing reviews talking about the accuracy of the heart rate, but many users like me see discrepancies. It's seems fine for running a constant pace or just for the 24/7 tracking but if you do any intense workout it's actually terrible. I have the Race S titanium (and before I had steel Race S) and I hoped for an improvement, but it's exactly the same. The watch is so good with maps, app, metrics and looks... And as Zonesense only works with chest strap, I bought one and I do all workouts with that. Now everything is perfect and with chest strap you have perfect results with any kind of sport. I do CrossFit and trailrunning. Great video!
Hey Sergio! Have to agree with you, the smoothness and rendering of the maps is still unmatched! Bloody love heading out into the mountains with Suunto! Yeah ZoneSense is really cool! I do hate wearing chest straps but it’s nice to know when I do choose to put one on I get top-tier lab-like data 🤯🔥 It does seem like people have found HR improvements to be, not enough! Hopefully Suunto work to improve this in both software and hardware. I’ve had a similar experience to you where it is super accurate until you start spicing up sessions with intensity. Love that you’re into CrossFit AND trail running .. have you done any of those Hyrox events? I really want to give one a go 🙈
I'm not into competition yet. At 45 years old I'm focused to improve fitness. Right now I'm enjoying the use of zonesense. I do 2/3 CrossFit workouts per week and 2/3 running. Thanks to zonesense I learnt about training in aerobic zone. Theoretically working out in zone 1 (zonesense has 3 zones) you're in aerobic training and it will help to improve endurance and levels of oxygen in blood, and also to train without fatigue. For me it's quite a revelation and it's helping me to train more with less fatigue.
LOVE that this is working for you and just reading what you've put here has inspired me to enjoy the process of training with ZoneSense too. Best of luck with it mate ❤️
Question if you use an external optical arm heart rate sensor does it show on the home widget hr screen? Mine doesn’t but will show hr for activity. However; if I use polar h10 it will show hr on the home widget and activity, curious if you have same issue?
This is super interesting! Tbh, I’ve never needed to use a chest strap (or arm strap) when I’m not within an activity. My guess would be though.. Suunto (especially since they released ZoneSense) treat chest straps and arm straps differently. The reason is because they are completely different technology.. an arm straps only measure light reflection from the blood. A chest strap actually measures the electrical output from your cardiovascular system.. it literally measures the heart and its electrical pulses. My guess is this is why you’re seeing a difference in behaviour. Hope this helps ❤️
@@ActiveIdeas Yeah it is interesting, now the H10 polar doesn't show on main HR widget, so not sure if that is a Suunto software issue or maybe my watch. But reaching out to Suunto support to see if it can be fixed. Thanks for the insight!
It does but on the surface it does seem quite basic.. they have S&C training plans, running and swimming but there aren’t many to choice from. You can also make your own in the “structured workouts” feature in the app to design your workout and then sync with your watch. There’s also really good integration with training peaks so I’m sure you could send your T.P plans to your Suunto watch and on T.P you’ll have thousands upon thousands of plans as well as the ability to directly work with coaches. Hope this helps ❤️
Would you recommend this watch for indoor workouts? I do like going on hikes and also run. But I also do strength training and indoor walks and runs on a treadmill. I can do all these on my Apple watch, but getting bored with it now and looking at something different and suunto race s is a great looking watch.
Whilst I do lots of strength training, I rarely use the strength training activities as I don’t like watches to distract me. I usually select things like circuits, cross training and just record duration and heart rate. I have have stretching training is good though 👍🏽 I can say Suunto crushes it for outdoor hikes and runs 🔥👊🏽
As always, you create great summaries. I have a question regarding distance and speed in 3D and a couple other questions. In the area where I live in Denmark, the terrain is a little bumpy, with constant vertical changes of 5 to 10 meters. This means that 100 meters in 2D could translate to 125 meters in 3D. How accurate would you say the Suunto Race S is compared to the Polar Vantage M3 in vertical distance measurement? And are both watches capable of accurately measuring small vertical variations? Additionally, can they both be set up for ‘every second recording,’ which provides a more precise route due to GPS recording every second? Do either of the two provide vertical speed and actual slope in %, as well as max slope in %? What about the maps - are they topographical maps? Cheers from Denmark
Corr mate! Some super in depth questions! Both are capable of 3D speed & grade adjusted pace. I’ve used the Suunto watches for this, they all have fantastic accuracy in this type of terrain.. from what I’ve seen, Polar M3 is good too. I’m not sure about “MAX” slope but I know Suunto can display the slope grade as a percentage 👍🏽 There are also lots of SuuntoPlus apps specifically designed for climbing 👍🏽 both have been very accurate in my testing, I haven’t been able to scientifically validate Polar (this takes time) but can say that Suunto product some of the most accurate watches for GPS recording (the Vertical being King in this field). Lastly, both Polar & Suunto have TOPO maps.. at the moment the navigation is more powerful on the Race S though. Hope this helps. Cheers from England 🏴
Great review as always mate!! On my radar is Gaarmin 965 but know I have second thoughts. What’s your opinion? Plus I wonde how did your gf cope after falling inside the pond at this freezing water!! lol Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷 buddy
@@apostolis_23 Greece 🇬🇷 Awesome! Abie from this channel is running the Athens Marathon: The Authentic on the 10th! The Garmin 965 is great, comfortable, stylish but the durability is pretty terrible. I tried to look After mine but had it scratched up after 1 week of use. The screen is very weak. Hahaha, Erren was okay after falling into the Bog. They were probably 7°C so super cold 🥶 And there were LOTS I didn’t manage to film 🙈 Funny enough, Erren really enjoyed this trip and is already keen to go on another 🤷🏽♂️🤣
The Race S is a fantastic watch with best in class build quality. But so is the Vertical! The Vertical is the watch that changed the game for Suunto… with the Race S you’ll get an AMOLED screen and a scroll wheel but if you don’t care about that … the Vertical has industry leading battery life! I’m still shocked that I ran 100 miles with this watch and still finished with 33% battery.. I had HR, smart notifications and mapping/navigation all left on 😍
Somehow Suunto have made this watch last a mighty 40h in gps mode 🤯🔥 So this should be fine for most 24 hour trail running events even with HR, phone notifications, medium/high screen brightness etc. There are steps you can take to further increase this battery such as knock the screen brightness to low, turn off AOD & make sure you’re in single band GPS. With navigation turned on you will take a hit on battery life but it will still last 24 hours 👍🏽 You can also charge your watch at checkpoints if you want to run longer than 24… Sarah Perry the Inov8 athlete just ran 250 miles at the Suffolk Back Yard Ultra wearing this Race S ❤️
Thanks for the video! I really appreciate you pointing out that there are other watch options besides Garmin. 😊 I have had this for a week now and I totally agree with you about the crown. Dont know what it is but the crown just feels smoother when scrolling than the steel version. And also when you press the crown. I also read somewhere that the crown is also made titanium, so not just the bezel.
@@rsgt2023 a pleasure! Yeah it definitely feels like the crown is Titanium and I’m glad it’s not just me haha. Wasn’t sure if it was just in my head but nice to hear that you found the crown scroll and pressing-in more pleasurable on the Titanium compared to the Steel 🙈
@ Some might say it's a small thing and who cares, don't be such a watch nerd 🙊 But I think this small thing matters and makes the whole watch feel more premium. 🤓
I mean we’ve covered it all about what value Suunto is now. But the fact you can buy a watch for sub £500 that in many cases out performs a £1000 Garmin just says it all. I know the Garmin will have many more additional features like messaging, Garmin pay etc. To me none of that matters. What matters is the basics. I’m really happy with my race, so I’m really happy to hear the titanium s is even better. Good job.
For me the choice is easy. Suunto Race S had better music controls and it has a Temperature Sensor Widget (vital for me who does swimming, sauna and ice baths) 👍 Unfortunately these features are non existent or have been completely removed on Coros (temperature sensor features)
The S Titanium is nothing more than a money grab. Only 10% ish lighter, still no sapphire screen and a 100 $ more. What was Suunto thinking. The only cool thing about the S Titanium is the strap. It’s the same strap as the dark blue 9 Peak Pro. At this point I think Suunto always and on purpose looks for a way to make every watch NOT the perfect watch.
10% lighter on an already super light watch is impressive tbf.. it feels like air on the wrist! It is a shame about the sapphire screen, would have loved it, but as I shown in the video, gorilla glass has genuinely held up well. Yeah man, I absolutely love the strap.. had no idea it’s the same as the dark blue 9 peak pro, fair play 👊🏽 Haha, who knows what their product strategy is but I am liking what they’re doing. A massive jump from just 1.5 years ago when they only had Suunto 7, 9 Baro & 9 Peak amount some others as the only watch options 🙈
The watch sucks! I sent it back. You can even see road names on the maps! The heart rate sensor was the cheapest I’ve seen between Apple and Garmin. BPMs were off by 50-60BPM. Would not recommend this watch.
Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad time with it mate! I think saying it “sucks” is a bit of a stretch though.. this is one of the best value for money watches you can get in 2024 🔥 What watch have you replaced this with?

They were probably 7°C so super cold 🥶 And there were LOTS I didn’t manage to film 🙈 Funny enough, Erren really enjoyed this trip and is already keen to go on another 🤷🏽♂️🤣
I'm just curious about how this new titanium version of Suunto race S stacks up against Vertical? unfortunately, I am a sucker of battery life.
I had HR, smart notifications and mapping/navigation all left on 😍
I have been using Garmin for years (mainly for trail running and backpacking), another plastic toy is no longer an option, Thank you! @@ActiveIdeas
Time to go ALLLL IN! 🔥
How battery life in a real world scenario of navigation and recording a activity? Does it survive a 24 hour trailrun race?
@@ActiveIdeas thank you for your answer!
A pleasure mate 🔥
Thanks for the video! I really appreciate you pointing out that there are other watch options besides Garmin. 😊
I have had this for a week now and I totally agree with you about the crown.
@@rsgt2023 hahah, I’m 100% with you! It’s all about the small things in daily life 👊🏽
I've never been so early.
Hahaha, Welcome back Nicola! 🌟
Good job.
@@blackhawk69100 as always, thanks for the support and thanks for the comments 🔥👊🏽
Suunto Race S or Coros Pace Pro? What about the battery of the Suunto Race S?
For me the choice is easy. Suunto Race S had better music controls and it has a Temperature Sensor Widget (vital for me who does swimming, sauna and ice baths) 👍 Unfortunately these features are non existent or have been completely removed on Coros (temperature sensor features)
4:52 no, no, no Scottish Highlands are not Lakes
🤣 this was filmed in the Lakes.. not the Scottish Highlands? Sca Fell is the lakes ❤️
I will say though.. myself and Erren plan to do the highlands next 👊🏽
@@ActiveIdeas you said highest point in UK, I said is not :) Highlands in Scotland are
@ oh haha, sorry ;) I meant England ❤️
@@ActiveIdeas Highlands are beautiful worth of going
Yeah man, I absolutely love the strap.. had no idea it’s the same as the dark blue 9 peak pro, fair play 👊🏽
Haha, who knows what their product strategy is but I am liking what they’re doing. A massive jump from just 1.5 years ago when they only had Suunto 7, 9 Baro & 9 Peak amount some others as the only watch options 🙈
I ❤ active ideas💡1 watch gift 🎁 please 🥺😢
They’re back 🤣
The watch sucks!
