  • New Wonjo, NYC’s oldest Korean BBQ restaurant for Bulgoki, Japchae and Bibimbap on 32nd St
We’re loving introducing our daughter & her friends to new foods. We went back to K Town and dined at New Wonjo, New York City’s oldest Korean BBQ restaurant (est 1993). This was so fun because unlike Japanese Hibachi, we do the cooking ourselves over a charcoal grill, not the typical gas grill, which makes this specific Korean bbq restaurant unique. Each table has a grill built into the middle of it! We ordered 3 classics which are approachable to kids & teens (and adults) which are not spicy & absolutely delicious: Bulgoki (raw, marinated, thinly sliced ribeye steak, eaten with lettuce wrapped around it like a little burrito, we cooked this over our grill), Japchae (savory & slightly sweet stir-fried glass noodles w/veggies & steak, this comes cooked) & Bibimbap (rice with steak, assorted veggies & a raw egg on top, served in an extremely hot bowl so we could mix all the ingredients together making an amazing cooked rice dish). We’ve been visiting this restaurant for years, but introducing our daughter to it made it an extra special night. Both our daughter & her friend can’t wait to go back & try more dishes! Considering how picky of an eater our daughter had been, we’re loving her new willingness to try new foods. Used to be 24 hr but now open until 5am. Best late night eats.
