Why would someone get an A4 injury rather than an A2 injury? Isn't the A2 the most likely to get injured when crimping? In this #short, we discuss one of the most common reasons someone would get an A4 pulley strain or tear. It usually has to do with hyperextension of the DIP joint (the finger joint furthest from your knuckles).
Some people are naturally more prone to DIP hyperextension when crimping, while others have the unfortunate habit of full crimping almost every hold to make up for poor half-crimp and open-hand strength. Frequent hyperextension of the DIP joint while pulling hard on crimps can put a lot of excess strain on the A4 pulley.
