  • Kirkham hot springs is less than two hours north of Boise. It's located right next to the Payette River. It's extremely accessible being right off the highway. You'll find ten different pools to soak in, waterfalls, and steamy goodness along the South Fork of the Payette. Bring some footwear as the hot springs are made up of a slippery rocky terrain. You can also camp at Kirkham hot springs during the warm months.

    Sadly a couple days ago (Monday Jan 2nd 2023) we drove by and I think there were at least 35 vehicles parked there in two rows at the gate. Mind you this is the middle of winter with icy roads. A local there told me it wasn't like this until Covid hit and Idaho got flooded with people trying to get out of cities. The gate has been closed for years I bet to try to minimize visitors (after the place was trashed years back), but people have figured it out. We went last year and paid, I bet 90% of people don't...

    Yes, stopped there a few times in my wild and crazy days. Swimsuits were optional back in the day as I remember. Love Idaho!

      Don Pence haha! Ya Chad kept reminding people you need a swimsuit. I kept asking him why he was stating the obvious and he said something like “back in the day, not everyone wore swimsuits.” 😂

    @6 or 7 of us would jump in a friends van and get up there about dark.. this was in the middle 70’s. Party & sit for awhile. Drive back to Boise. It wasn’t until 15 years later and saw it in the daytime and was amazed nobody killed themselves getting down there.

      @JonConti  4 роки тому

      O wow haha. I mentioned in the written blog to not get caught there after sunset because you could get really hurt in the dark. That sounds awesome though! Was the parking lot and the little wooden viewing platform there back then?

      The Adventures of Jon & Chad there was nothing there, very few people, no parking spots. There was less pools. But always a blast with good friends.

    "nudity is prohibited in all areas of National Forest", uh, right. Interesting point about hot springs deep into the bush and current economics and politics. In Canada several relatively hard to get to springs seem to reflect the times. Sixties? No one had any clothes on. Eighties? Guys were still naked, ladies had bathing suits. Nineties? Harder times, not as many people. People had clothes on. 2000 Labor Day at Meagre Creek??? (Meagre Mtn. caved in; now closed; near Whistler) I was the ONLY one there. Felt like "Last Man on Earth".

      too close to the road. I've been to probably fifty hot springs in Canada and some USA. Very little trash of any kind is left in ANY Canadian spring, until Parks took over and brought in dumpsters. Bags of trash (and bears) were everywhere. Fortunately my buddy had a large RV coach and we removed a ton when we left. Parks experiment ended, and we were back to the pack in/pack out types again, and clean.

    You’re right about stopping there on the way to or from Stanley. Round trips from Boise to Kirkham are quite the long trip.

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  4 роки тому +1

      Nate M I will say that the restaurant in banks added a killer little pub that’s open in peak seasons. It makes it more appealing for a day trip when that place is open.

    • @johnnyanderson3024
      @johnnyanderson3024 4 роки тому +1

      Is it a long time can't you just take a right after banks and then go past Terrace Lakes? Which route is faster I wonder?

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  4 роки тому +1

      Johnny Anderson You can get there by taking a right at banks then go past the turn for terrace lakes. Take a left at highway 21 and it will be on your right.

    Hey Jon - love your videos and can't wait to get to Idaho! If I wanted to visit a lot of hot springs on my trip to Idaho, what's the earliest in the year you'd recommend visiting? Will the rivers still be too high with spring runoff to enjoy many of the hot springs in June?? Thanks!

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  2 роки тому

      Hmmm.... Are you thinking hot springs like this? Because I can think of a hot springs loop out of boise that would take you to 7-9 and I'd actually do it in the winter. If you're going more hard core and want to try hiking 20 miles into the backcountry to find some that's a different story. I think for the casual hot springs seeker, time of year doesn't really matter. We have so many of these, we have more than Washington Oregon and Montana combined.

  • @briankgarland

    Just note, the rocks you have to traverse to get into the pools down by the river are pretty sketchy if you are elderly or have mobility issues.

    Make sure to blow up this spot even more. It is a shadow of what it used to be and overcrowding is causing the Forest Service to look into closing it for certain periods of the year.

    Omg I’ve been there too! Have you guys tried out the wine country in Idaho I think it’s Huston? Or there’s silverhawk aviation in Caldwell for helicopter rides over the owyhee mountains it is sooo coool

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  4 роки тому

      MeggiesMovies we haven’t done much with wine country. We did Lindsey Vineyards up in Lewiston, and we did a pound and pour class with Coiled wines. We did do a helicopter ride with silverhawk aviation but it was over Boise. Then we rafted the Owyhees. And all those videos are on here! That’s a good idea on wine country. Idaho has a lot of great food and wine experiences. So much to do, so little time 😀

    Hey guys. I'm from Iceland, where we have a shit load of geothermal water to go around. Reykjavik, a city of 200.000 people has 16 public swimming pools, of course all with a nice selection of hot tubs and jacuzzis. When it domes to Nudity, Icelander's in general don't do that, but you have to shower with your gender without swimwear and clean yourself off properly before entering the pool to keep the chlorine to a mininum and the water quality excellent. Also, girls are allowed to be topless if they want to.

    • @ThorsteinnK
      @ThorsteinnK 3 роки тому

      And yes, we do have a shit load of natural pools scattered throughout the country. I really feel for people that have never tried soaking in a warm river somewhere in the middle of nowhere...
