A gruesome story with an important message. If he was a better king, people would have respected him too much to rob his body. May he rest in peace, finally.
Was common practice for bodies & properties of Nobility, Kings, or even Pope's, to be stripped of their Earthly riches upon death. Unless locked away elsewhere, everything became fair game to take by trusted friends, subject's, servants, or total strangers. Even after burial, no one was truly safe to rest in eternity from plunder or desecration.
@@straingedays Absolutely true. It had nothing to do with the type of King he was, it was standard practice to loot from dead bodies and tombs in the middle ages.

William's influence was so great that it's still with us today. He completely altered the course of English govt, common law, language, art, architecture, religion, and military science. He had built some of the most important structures in European history. It's crazy to think that one of the most, if not the most important figure in English history, died so brutally.
I think I have heard this before. Horrible death and burial for my 26th great grand father. I have always been interested in where the added names like Curtnose, Longshakes etc came from.
