Why not: ( x-5) ^2 = + - 4
From ( x-5)^2"= = 4 you get x-5 = +- 2 x=7 or x =3
From( x- 5)^2 = -4 you get x-5 = + - 2i. Thats all

how can x=3 because if you take 4th root of both sides then 3-5 equals 2

Yeah, that's what I get.
(x - 5)⁴ = 16
(x - 5)⁴ = 2⁴
x - 5 = 2
x = 7
