Definitely. I've always thought it should be as famous as Madoka. They have several similarities, like having girls involved in deadly battles not knowing the truth behind them and a story that starts as a cool anime of fighting girls but then it becomes a tragedy. They also have a Yuki Kajiura soundtrack. Yet, Madoka is constantly portrayed as the one and only dark maho shoujo. I have nothing against Madoka, but having watched Mai Hime years before, I didn't find it as innovative as people say. It's a great series too, but in my opinion, Mai Hime has a better development. The relationships between characters are way more complex, which leads to the infamous battles from the end. Madoka is more straightforward.
@@DarkNova2010 the one thing that kinda ruins mai hime is the ending where everyone lives including the a s s h o l e villain. Other than that the aniem was fantastic and one of the best i've seen
@@eternalchamp3882 Yeah, I agree about the ending, but I can forgive that because the rest of the series is awesome. I've heard that the manga has a better ending, more coherent with the tragic atmosphere, but I hadn't read it.
+Nikki mcDonagh I know right ? Even if the endings were sad as fuck, they're masterpieces of their owns. I can't believe they weren't popular, even to this day.
Mai Otome is the official season two for the Mai Hime series, but it is not your typical sequel, more like different stories that shall soon clash. Quite ingenious if you think about it.
No its not. Both Hime and Otome are standalone anime even extending their connections its more of an alternate universe. Looks like what you're talking about is the Fuuka Wars trailer that included on Otome DVD.
@@stopler no I am actually not talking about that cruel april fools joke. Otome is officially the sequel to Mai Hime but you can tell how that raises a few eyebrows.
@@andresmarrero8666 I would like to see where is the source that states that Otome is officially the sequel of Hime, that even 3rd party sites as anidb and ANN both categorize it as alternate settings unless someone here doesn't know what is a sequel is.
Mai Hime - the first anime I ever watched about 15 years ago, and it grabed me for my whole life like an anime fan! Now - 2018 I still listen it OST, and I still enjoy the brilliant work of Yuki Kajuira!
Truly a very underrated battle song. You only heard it a few times, but every time you heard it, you knew the fight was going to be groundbreaking. I prefer Mai-Otome's battle songs, due to both MATERIALISE and Sei Otome no Inori being absolutely incredible in instrumentation and vocals, but the anime failed to correctly use the songs a lot of the time, though the few moments it did use them correctly were amazing. It's a real shame it was not every time, however. Had it been every time, it would have easily surpassed Mezame. Mai-HiMe easily has the upper hand in regard to this, due to it using Mezame appropriately in every instance you heard it. It never felt like the scene and song would stand on their own. Every time you heard it, you always had welted up feelings of sadness and/or negativity, which was what they aimed for. And the scene was always amazing and the song fit the serious nature of the battles so well. These are the kind of anime that were worthy to break the twelve episode curse, though it did not exist yet in the mid-thousands. Another thing I will say is that, despite both anime being separate timelines, Mai-HiMe is still best watched first, due to it properly explaining the Orphans a lot better. Mai-Otome just throws them at you out of nowhere and changed the connection from a beloved of the summoner dying to the host themself. Mai-HiMe gives you that minor bit of detail where it will make watching Mai-Otome more satisfying. This comes from someone who screwed up and did not know there was a Mai-HiMe, believing Mai-Otome was the only anime. Had I saw Mai-HiMe first, I would have known a bit more about Mai-Otome. Oh, and it was annoying as heck with that girl who looked like Nina. I only saw her in a single scene and it just hit me that they thought she looked cool enough to be used as one of the most important characters in Mai-Otome. Pretty funny, actually.
+hecatomb The whole anime had this dark knowledge overshadowing them constantly - at the threat of loss. Everyone went through something pretty hectic and this song does have a sorrow to it that accompanied the anime well. It did end on a happy note, but there was so much tragedy they did go through, and definitely not the happiest ending for an anime I've seen.
Mi hime is the best anime Ive watch,... I love the story, the fighting scene and also when they summon their child, I hope they will create another hime.. But I dont like mi otome story,...
When I heard of this Anime I was like "Hell naw! Another Magical Girl-Sailor Moon copy cat fuckin shit bag?" But then I've seen the first episode and i totaly fell in love with it!
if i only could find words to desrcibe this piece of epicness....after i heard this epic song i started with the anime and it is one of my favourites....THIS is what i call entertaimet...
Not many ppl really know of this anime.. But even for me at first impression i didn't think it wud be tht interesting... but was i wrong... this is my fave song from the OST... Its absolutely amazing.. impossible to explain in words...
Honestly, when i started watching this, I thought it was going to be disappointing, containing too many characters, but when it was unveiled they were destined to fight each other, I was quite shocked, like the time I watched Madoka Majika, This appeared to be quite satisfying to watch, considering I thought this was a Shonen Series at first(sorry!)due to Mai's and Tate's first few contacts. But it all grew so messed up and in the end it was all about the relationships almost being broken. *_*
That's certainly possible and I didn't think of that. Still...they should have given more hints that they could have come back or such a thing could occur if that was the case (kinda like clannad). And regardless, the ending is so happy go lucky that it kinda makes a joke of the earlier drama. Making it hard to take the series very seriously.
@Lordsteven125 5...3.... I don't remember but I know that the first time she fully used it was when she was fighting Midori but I don't remember what episode that was
@stakitoshki Es que alyssa era una bruja, queria que todos le ovedecieran y la androide tampoco era buena no no no.....A alyssa la creo la compañia searrs por eso el carnaval de las Hime fue un caos, pero nada, me encanto ese anime!!!
1. For sure. There would be no plausible reason that everyone shouldn't stay dead. Unfortunately I feel like they killed off too many characters and wrote themselves into a rut and didn't want to have an utterly depressing ending (Which is why they had the dbz ending if you ask me). Ideally they would have to rewrite the second part and not kill as many, so it's not such a dark ending but ah well.
hyperXknees well it turned out that the first queen had the whole counter plan since the beginning. I thought it was quite ingenious what she did there using the wishes of the living and the dead over hundreds of years to finally end their curse. I actually like the ending, it ended on a happier note which is something I would want after all that.
This is probably one of the most underrated animes in the history :(

something I've never noticed before is how the tempo/beat is so intense that it constantly feels like its speeding up
Hannah Guichard it is speeding up as the song goes, and more instruments get added to make it sound heavier as well
really cool.
Mai-Hime one of the best anime shows i have seen with awsome music from the genius composer Kaijura Yuki :D
So glad this song popped into my head for no reason.
June 12 2020 and its still my favorite
this ost is so beautiful an sad thanks
***** Really. Sure it was a pretty happy ending, but I personally think I've seen plenty happier.

***** Karaoke and all. The characters still went through the things they went through... very emotional things.
Considering how deep the story, battles and everything were in Mai-HiMe, the ending comes off as very, very disappointing.
Hannah Hart brought me here.
WHERE HAS THIS SOUNDTRACK BEEN ALL MY LIFE??
+Malo Squishy Which video?
i was looking for this song forever! thank you so much. and my hime has to be one of the greatest animes out there.

Such a beautiful piece of music.
This song is easily the best part of the entire show.
just EPIC! so is the series :)
The song (named Mezame) is from Mai-Hime.. But Yuki Kajiura did the music for both animes, so I'm sure some of the songs sound similar.
