UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME!: I am neither pro nor anti-Glock, but... I'm going to rant about Glock and, especially, Glock defenders and fanboys. Glocks cost well under $100 to make. *_Meaning that Glocks have about a 400%+ mark-up._* Don't believe me? Stop stroking your Glock 42 and Glock 43 and read this: *_Gaston Glock originally wanted to offer his handguns as an affordable ~$200 handgun._* (And before you get cute and attempt gymnastics with inflation, this is "the equivalent of" dollars, not actual prices in 1983.) Until Gaston Glock's marketing division (which, admittedly, were brilliant) and subordinates persuaded him that handguns for such a low cost in America will be seen as "imported junk" and "Saturday Night Specials" and associated with the likes or Lorcin. So Gaston went along with the mark-up. In case you're wondering this was in Paul Barrett's "Glock: The Rise of America's Gun" - which is THE go-to "biography" of the Glock handgun.
Not only does a Glock have no business being a $500 handgun, *_but not even Gaston Glock wanted it to be the equivalent of that much._* And considering how the price of Glocks just kept going up and up from the late 1990s after it got popular enough to get away with it (not like it's alone in this, either, remember the HS2000 and how you could get, basically, a Springfield Armory XD without Springfield's stamping all over it for a little over $300 back in 2001 or so, the XD shouldn't be a $500+ handgun, either).
But it's not like it matters. Glock fanboys will still be the Apple fanatics of the firearms world and still justify their purchase. A Glock 19 could run $3,700 used and require them to be personally urinated on by Gaston Glock in order for them to purchase it and they'd still gladly throw their wallets at Glock for it. Hell, some of them might pay $3,700 just to have the "honor" of being pissed on by Gaston Glock...
      EDIT:
Oh, in case this seems out of place (and it should), this is just copy and pasted from my own stand-alone comment. It's not directed towards anyone in particular - except any Glock fanatics.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: I'm putting this on every Security 9 review because there is a common mis-understanding on the slide lock. Per page 8 on the full size S-9 manual, It is not a slide RELEASE. It is a slide lock only to hold it open only. Not designed to be pushed down to release the slide. Manual says to rack it back to release the slide. Ruger really does need to make this plainer and I do wish the would maybe put an easily removeable sticker next to the the slide lock saying "Slide Lock Only, Rack Back to Release". Hickok45 is the only one that caught this and is why I know. IMHO, the Security 9 does everything so well, I couldn't justify the extra cost of Glock.

For me the main advantage of the 26, other than track record, is the wide variety of larger capacity Glock magazines you can use in it, the 15, 17, 24 and 33. Not to mention all the mag extensions and magazines from other manufacturers. I really love this for the range. No other compact or sub-compact will ever match this.

Well actually the security 9 mag system is kinda close? Not nearly as big but the compact will take the full-sized 15rd mags, and Pmag makes a 32rd version for the security 9 system. I mean, I know I should have gone with Glock but the interchangeable mag system is why I’m buying the sec9 compact.
I already have the sec9 full sized, and also have the PC carbine, which also takes security 9 mags.

@@luvfreedom1470 I closely followed the M9 trials, and suggest you look up the actual trial results. In every category, the Ruger P85 won by an exceptional margin. Accuracy, reliability, durability were all won -- except that there was a push to find ANYTHING to score against the Ruger; so, one trivial and one actual, "failures," were found: a grip screw backed out at about 25,000 rounds into testing, and the slide release broke internally disabling the pistol at about 44,000 rounds. Ruger remedied the cause of both failures and called it the P87, and offered free upgrade parts kit to all P85 owners. Ruger then paid out-of-pocket to re-run the M9 trials on the P87, and passed with a literal perfect score. The only remaining complaint was from three of the Army shooters that the Ruger's DA trigger pull was beyond their reach (two females, and one male with small hands). That is literally what was used as the reasoning for disqualifying the Ruger was.

I'm sure the Ruger is a fine gun and well worth the $300. But, my own experience with the Glock 26 has been nothing but positive as well. I bought mine in 1995 and have carried the same one daily for 24 years, both on and off duty, with nothing more than very limited routine maintenance. My Glock 26's finish still looks pretty much like it did when new. The gun was butt ugly when I bought it, and remains so a quarter century later. But even though I've been totally submerged in water or covered in mud while carrying it, it has experienced zero rust, ever.
Glock gave me a law enforcement discount, as an individual officer, that allowed me to buy the gun on my then-meager salary. Glock offered and I attended a free Glock armorer's course that allowed me to fix just about anything on my gun. Fortunately I've never had to use those skills except on other people's guns, due to ill-advised tampering. When they became available, Glock installed a set of factory night sights on my G26 for the grand sum of $56 parts and labor. Then I participated in my first GSSF match, and won a free Glock. I carried the G26 overseas with me to work, and when my magazines got stolen from a piece of luggage, I was able to replace them the same day, even in a Third World Shithole country. So far as I know, none of these things is available from Ruger, but I could be wrong.
Not counting the free gun I won, at today's prices, a brand new Glock 26, if it lasted as long as my current one has, would cost me $1.50 per month to own a world standard professional tool over its expected service life, and that is if I were to simply it away at the end and not recover any resale value. That is a hell of a deal no matter how you look at it. This is what the extra money between the Ruger and the Glock pays for. If you don't need or want these things, feel free to choose a good budget gun. But there are reasons that armed professionals gladly pay the extra money for a Glock.
This is in no way intended to be a slam against the Ruger.
