Refugiums strip out more Nitrate than Phosphate, so you can get to a point where the nitrates is almost zero and there is still plenty of phosphate, but you cant dose something like NOPOX without wiping out you nitrate. In addition the Fuge is a breeding place for aiptasia.
Steve, when I handed you some products on Saturday, I wasn't expecting a whole promotion - let alone a spiritual reefer shout out! You're an absolute star. Your feedback regarding the poles was really helpful too. It was a pleasure to meet you, and I'm very much looking forward to meeting again in future. Harry 😊
Thanks Harry, always happy to help! You were kind enough to give me the parts to try, the lease I can do is offer constructive feedback and share such a fantastic product.
it was that, I submerged the whole pipe, sealed one end and took it out of the sump and into a bucket then unsealed it creating a siphon and used that to clear the sump.
removing the refugium will likely raise parameters, thought this is likely to have much more impact on nitrate than phosphate. I combined this with moving from phosiex to rowaphos as rowaphos is more aggressive against phosphate in my opinion, though I do like that phosiex is cleaner.

So what’s the cons for having a refugium?

A big bonus for me was not having a light in my sump causing algae everywhere
@@ryanwashington3330 I had the Tunze fuge light and was able to angle it so that is wasnt causing too much spillage but you have a great point!

How did you hoover the sump out. I saw a flexi pipe but nothing else

Does this solution address phosphates? Thanks

What are all those magnets on the front glass of the sump for? If they're not doing anything why keep them in the sump?
