I LOVE that the characters make cameos in the other books. It makes you feel like you're a part of something bigger. It's hard to explain. First real novels I remember reading. Love her.
I think people tend to be really hard on Remy and her views on love but I think a lot of people forget that passage where she mentions going to a party and getting sexually assaulted. She didn't tell any of her friends either and I think that's also a reason why she's so cold when it comes to romance. That was one of her first real sexual experiences and rape survivors can become hyper sexual because they're trying to reclaim their bodily autonomy (obviously not everyone copes this way but it does occur). And if you consider Remy growing up with her mom's failed marriages, it's pretty easy to see why she discredits romance so much. I dunno I have a soft spot for Remy and This Lullaby was the book that introduced me to Sarah Dessen. The Truth About Forever will always be favourite though.
I woudn't call it assault. Just a bad first time which I personally felt was written that way to say how having sex is bad. The book really shames girls who like sex. I love the book but on re-reading it, it has issues.
From what I remember, she was underage and drunk and that older guy kept pushing her to have sex when she didn't want to. Sexual coercion. But I do agree with you that sex seems to be a shameful thing in Sarah Dessen's books.

Yessss, Sarah Dessen is queen. Saint Anything is probably my #1 from her and I love Lock and Key too, I feel like it's so underrated! They're all so well done, it's hard to narrow down your favorites. Great video!

I love Sarah Dessen, I grew up reading her books. My top 5 favourites would have to be 1. Just Listen (First book I read by her and have read it 10 times) 2. The Truth About Forever 3. This Lullaby 4. Along for the Ride and 5. Lock and Key. I think I have read most of these books at least more than once. I read Dreamland the first time three years ago, I thought it was ok. I barely remembered what happened in Keeping the Moon. I've enjoyed Dessen's other books but I've mostly enjoyed my top five.Great Video xx

I loved this lullaby because of Dexter too!! He was amazing and it had a good message, but rent did get on my nerves sometimes. And I cried throughout this book bc I was sad that Dexter got hurt haha shows how much I love him..
My favorite one by Sarah Dessen is Along For The Ride. Read it when a was 16, right before I entered college. That book changed something in me that pushed me to broaden my horizon. I wouldn't have experienced a lot of good things if it weren't for that book. Though, The Truth About Forever is a close second. Wes and Macy will always be my fave couple.
Sarah Dessen is one of my auto-buy authors, so yeah, I love her. I plan on reading them all again this year, probably in the month her new one comes out. Can't really say which is my absolute favorite, though, as I don't remember too much about any of them except for Saint Anything.

100% agree that That Summer is not the best of Sarah Dessen’s. I just didn’t think that it had a main plot or goal. But I do really love What Happened to Goodbye, Just Listen, and Someone like you. I’d recommend reading dreamland again because it deals with domestic violence pretty well. 💓

The only person I liked in that book was the artist guy. As of now I'm not fond of Saint Anything either BUT I haven't actually been able to finish it so I can't actually say I dislike it yet. My favourite was Along for the Ride. I also remember really liking Just Listen and Lock and Key but the others I need to reread.
