    Your lessons have inspired me. When I listen in English now, I try analyzing sound with what you've taught us and I've read in Wikipedia and the web. It helps me understand a bit why they didn't talk like the words and what happened in their speaking even though I can't imitate them all.

    25:03 fun part? It's the worst part or well, the part most difficult but we must do it, is the best way for improve our pronunciation, I take 30 more minutes in that part, I repeat it maaaaany times until I get it right, especially when there is a long thoughts group, that's why it's worst part for me 😭

    7:10 you said ( help you ) i know the letter in help is dark L, but my question, is the tip of tongue, touche anywhere in mouth like down back teeth or upper back teeth after the back of tongue touch throat .

    • @rachelsenglish
      @rachelsenglish  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! For me, I find that the tip of the tongue is lifted a little bit, and maybe slightly pulled back, but I think that it will be a little different for everyone. The important part for the Dark L is the stretch in the back of the tongue.

    Hi Rachel. I have a question about the last sentence in this video. In the sentence the word “fit”, does it function as a verb or an adjective? If it functions as a verb, shouldn’t it be “fits”? I am confused so looking forward to the answer from you! Thanks a lot!

    • @rachelsenglish
      @rachelsenglish  4 роки тому +1

      I believe because it is past tense 'fit' works as a verb here. For instance, if a friend tried on a shirt at a store earlier, you might say: 'The shirt fit you when you tried it on earlier." However, if it is present tense, "The shirt fits you" - you would want 'fits'.

    • @jamesxia9072

    Hi Rachel. I really appreciate your detailed explanation at 11:48 regarding the vowel change of the word 'told'. This cleared up my confusion which has perplexed me for such a long time. Does this type of change also appear in words that consist of /eɪl/ sound (e.g. detail, fail, hail, pale, sale, trail, wail)? Oftentimes, I hear native speakers pronouncing simply like /el/ rather than /eɪl/. Thank you. 😀

    • @rachelsenglish
      @rachelsenglish  4 роки тому

      Hi! I have definitely heard native speakers do this with the AY as in SAY diphthong as well. However, I would say it maintains it's AY as in SAY sound in those words more than the OH as in NO in 'told'.
