Precipitation Reactions: Crash Course Chemistry #9
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2024
- A lot of ionic compounds dissolve in water, dissociating into individual ions. But when two ions find each other and form an insoluble compound, they suddenly fall out of the solution in what's called a precipitation reaction. In this episode of Crash Course Chemistry, we learn about precipitation, precipitates, anions, cations, and how to describe and discuss ionic reactions.

Ok hank and co
Woah, recent. Only one week ago on a 7 year old video?!
Yes! That's awesome. TYSM
Crash Course is really amazing. I love learning here, but I find that only so much of the content can be absorbed and remembered... It would be even more amazing if there was an attachment with notes for each episode so that it can be reviewed afterward... Just a suggestion... If anyone agrees please thumbs up this comment, and maybe we can get the CrashCourse team to see this!
MichaelTebeleMusic Good video ! I really do appreciate all the points that were emphasized . Yet, I would also like to support your suggestion concerning the attachment of notes for every episode that we can view after watching the video for learning purposes . Thanks .
+MichaelTebeleMusic I totally agree with this! There is so much information that it is difficult to retain, and it would take many watch-throughs to make sufficient notes.
SURE
+MichaelTebeleMusic agreed! A revision/summary component at the end of the video would be great!
+MichaelTebeleMusic I watch it once then watch it again and take my own notes....seems to work for me!
No matter how confusing chemistry might seem, there's always a silver lining!
CATions are always PAWsitive
or pussytive
Anion= A Negative ION
And y'know, it's cool to be a cat, which is a plus.
or purrsitive
Skates 35 Yeh, 'cause a cat's the only cat that knows where it's at, that's why everybody wants to be a cat :3
I wish Hank was my chemistry teacher
Mee toooooo
I wish he was my teacher for every subject.
Same!
Flamebuster32 lmao hell yea
Amen. My chemistry teacher right now is soooooooooo boring
all chemistry teachers should be like him
Javier PrD Sure buddy.
Just want to say, that Metal Gear Solid reference you snuck in there was *chef's kiss*
My brain may be made by chemistry but it sure wasn't made for it '~'
Hank, I know you addressed the difference in an earlier episode, but you might want to tell the animators to use "mol" in stoichiometirc equations instead of "M," as that is the symbol commonly used for molarity. It's all semantics, but if you have viewers who are taking chemistry in school it could cost them on a test or assignment
"Because science." is literally the answer to probably every question. "Why are you late for school?" "Because science" Why are you limping?" "Because science"
"why did the fire nation attack??"
"Because science..."
+awesomeaoife :3 also, "Because Words" is another good one.
xxXTITAN HAWKXxx Might use that one
+abdur rahman oH GOD THAT WOULD BE AMAZING
BluFuri ants Canada
Only 1:40 in, and we are given a Metal Gear reference. That is why I love Crash Course.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yes.
dude i noticed that too and i love you profile picture
***** It was SOLID snake, important. For whoever didnt get the pun, Hank is taking about solids falling out of soulutions.
+king fireslayer HAHAHAHA! THANK YOU!
+NINmann01wiiU I paused and rewatched that part several times.
I LOVE finding MGS in random places. XD
Thanks for snapping me out of the "I've been studying this for too long tonight" stupor, Crash Course!
Hank, I have not studied chemistry since high school in the 60s, and I almost failed that. You are making things much easier to understand. Thank you.
"Now you want that silver even more don't you?"
10/10
I was great at math and English, but I struggled a lot with history and science because my GED textbook didn't contain a lot of information, so I decided to watch your videos to help me out, then the time came to take my GED. I always regretted dropping out of highschool, but what's done is done. I went into the GED test and realized a lot of what was on the exam was what you guys taught me. Thanks to you guys, I passed my GED. Thank you CC for giving me a shot at a future.
why didn't I find this channel earlier I have no idea what's happening in ap chem lol
Caroline O. What grade are you in?
i'm a freshman lol yikes
Nobody in highschool does, welcome to hell.
Error at 6:49. NOT a REDOX REACTION. You need to change the heading to DOUBLE REPLACEMENT REACTION (or PRECIPITATION REACTION will work also since double replacement has not been mentioned at all in the video).
Oh wow
Donald Trump reference 2 years before he started running for president, nice
exactly what I was gonna comment
+sassytela haven't I see you in almost every one of these?
+EnsonTheVile lol yh I love crash couse vids. It helps me with my college work :)
+sassytela I always saw your comments when Donald trump is in the vids
+EnsonTheVile I hate the guy even tho he ain't running for president in my countru
"Chemists have to dictate what they say to they moms due to their terrible writting skills." Did anybody noticed the Bohr reference?
He specifically mentioned is when he introduced Bohr a few episodes ago.
Please keep these coming and expand into advanced concepts! I love chemistry more than anything.
Crash course: making Donald Trump jokes before it was cool.
This man threw some sodium chloride at me the other day it was a salt.
Andromeda Florine came over to hydrogen and said "Hey, I'm going to steal your electron. Why? Because I'm feeling a little negative today..."
@L Vamanara hydrogen peroxide :)
@L Vamanara I might be 4 years late, but epic joke
OMG I LOVE the little periodic table guys! they're so cute! Squee! ( and thanks for the help with my chemistry class)
I'm a Physics major working on a biophysics PhD and I find these videos a nice review of my high school chem that helps my be better comprehend the chemistry-based portions of research. Thanks!
Precipitation reactions are the reason why there's a permanent vomit stain on my toilet from when I didn't flush it until the next day because I passed out.
I'm real glad your channel is here. I'm way behind in science class, and your channel helps me understand everything better
the part where he talks about the mountains made of silver in the beginning was a reference to how Argentina was named, Lol.
The first time I came across Crash Course was six month ago when I was doing research about the first world war, since then I have been hooked to Vlogbrothers, SciShow and ofcourse Crash Course. So thank you Hank, John and Michael for making me smarter and happier person with your knowledge and witty humour.
Is anyone else absolutely living for the adorable little element drawings that are put up when he talks about each element? Just me? Okay.
Am I the only one who gets super excited when I see a new CrashCourse chemistry video? I love these videos, Hank!
I'm in college Chemistry now and these are awesome for reinforcing everything I'm learning, even teaching stuff I didn't cover in class! Thanks so much Crash Course!
I was so happy to see the conversion equations. I could do those all day every day they are so much fun. Same with balancing reactions.
This has helped me so much in every class!!!! Thank you. I really enjoy chemistry and I never thought I would.
I came here for Chem 101.
Then upvoted for Snake.
Crash course is awesome can u guys do a course on physics
You have no idea how useful this is for GCSE Chemistry! Thank you :)
i really appreciate this series, the guys at scishow have no idea how
helfull these videos are for chem class!!!
"Montana, where I live..." may the stalking commence!
+EssThree Most likely Bozeman, MT. Start there then try Butte if still no luck Billings.
1:04 OMG I CANNOT ESCAPE TRUMP!
You cannot escape meme magic, good sir
Maybe harden up abit.
@@ABC-rb5uf that's what she said?
I love when this has to do with things I'm doing in class. I don't pay attention to my teachers but I could listen to the Green Brothers for hours on end
I love that these videos let me learn chemistry while I procrastinate doing chemistry lab reports.
If only this series could be complete before my Chemistry regents :( Great videos. Way more interesting than my actual Chem class.
cations: displays cat. anion : displays anne hathaway catwoman.hmmm
lol, yes !!! i messed up.
Anovia WikiAnswers Yes, but a cat was displayed.
Anovia WikiAnswers Pikachu is a "pika"(google it, it's actually more closely related to a rabit than a mouse), gg
Pikachu is more closely related to a rabbit as a Mouse Pokémon. gg
***** My childhood was based on pokemon, and you just blew my mind.
Thank you guys so much!! i have a massive science test coming up and this saved my butt! thank you so much!
I'm really enjoying Chemistry. It's great to review chemistry, a) to refresh my neural pathways, and b) to make sure I catch all the new stuff that got discovered since I last took inorganic chemistry...in 199...5? I think?
Thank you so much. You are about the only revision channel with any kind of personality.
this would be a great refresher for an exam...but for someone trying to learn from scratch, it's slightly fast...
That's because it's a crash course
Watched this today in class and subscribed!
I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS VIDEO BC MY CHEM TEACHER KNOWS NOTHING AND I HAVE LEARNED NOTHING BU THIS VIDEO HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH, THANKS FOR EXISTING HANK
Did you know that Francium was almost named Catium because it is the most powerful Cation, but Marguerite's colleague suggested that she name it something else because it sounded like "Cat", so she named it Francium
Cation
Caution
Spelled similarly, sounds differently (sorry for bothering you, it just came to my mind).
Lol
Ohhh didn’t know that earlier before
ender cow :/
Why the hell are all elements so dang CUTE!!?? (^.^)
watch the vedio...u'll know...oh, and i didn't really mean to share it on google+...
thank you hank green for helping me pass my GCSE Chemistry, it makes more sense than my teacher.
The cation pikachu comparison is the best thing!!! I could never which ones were positive and which ones were negative!
1:41 "This is Snake, I've reached the entry point."
On a (possibly already mentioned) separate note, at time 6:50, a reaction is put up with states for each of the salts. This equation is titled a "REDOX REACTION" which is incorrect. It is a precipitation reaction. Or more precisely a "double displacement" precipitation reaction.
thankyou very much for this, you are only a little slower than my introductory chem course at uni but im sure by the exams you will have helped a lot!
An informative chemistry video made me chuckle now that is something!
Mr. Burns extracted gold from the ocean in Little Lisa Recylcing Plant
Precipitit
This guy is the only entertainment I need everyday
So well taught. I love it!
"Solids falling out of solutions" *Solid Snake falling*
That was GENIUS!
I hate when my friend turns into a werewolf
honestly these videos help me so much
loved your energy and the way of presenting ^^
At 6:49, did you mean precipitate reaction or redox reaction?
my father gave me a small loan of a million dollars
+cobi toor balance the redox equation for it!
cobi toor grats!
seriously, is it possible to like a whole channel, because I SURE do. Good stuff bro. As always rocking!
this is actually pretty helpful thx alot
1:05 Is that donald trump?
+Sedrick Alcantara he even says "to get rich
+Sedrick Alcantara The hair(:
+Sedrick Alcantara I think so
Lol yes it is! 😐😐😨😐😆😅😄
Sedrick Alcantara Why not he loves to roast Donnie
Really like these videos. Haven't found many videos on physics though. Just saying it would be better if there was a physics section on crash course. Really good otherwise though.
+Jack Douglas Later this month your dilemma will be solved!
I just, I love you so much, i have a test on this next week. Thank you CrashCourse!!!!!!
figured out what i needed in the first minute, thanks
At 10:09, it should be m NaCl not m Cl.
Don’t argue with da hank
Reminds me of standard grade chemistry. Being 15 was so simple...
Thank you, I'm a chemistry graduent and it gave me a good resume of general chemestry :) !
Sir, you may have just saved my Spring Semester. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
METAL GEAR SOLID 1:40 I LOVE YOU :D
ArkangeL
"What is this white stuff down here?"
Thaaaaaaaat's what she said.
Thank you Crash Course!
This video has helped me a lot!
These videos are great for studying for exams! And considering how truly terrible I am at anything remotely science related, they are extremely helpful. Oh and I like your jacket. :)

Am I wrong, or is 6:49 improperly labeled as a redox reaction? I don't think it classifies as a redox reaction because there is no change in oxidation numbers and no electrons are transferred. Or am I just confused?
Noticed that too, might be wrong.
You're absolutely correct - it's not a redox reaction. To be nit-picky, one of the 'O's in the nitrate compound was not capitaliazed :/
Regardless, I still love Crash Course.
These classes are the best!!
Wow!! Amazing explanation.
!!!!your the best! but please talk slower!!!!!!!!!!!
or slow down the video
You can adjust the speed by pressing the gear button. I personally think that 0.75 is ideal
I feel that this is him talking slower than normal
who does this guy's art style?! IT'S SO FREAKIN SLEEK AND SEXY!
+Crazycrux Gaming
Graphics Team used in crash course is, Thought Cafe, look them up on youtube.
I'm sure someone has asked before but I do it anyhow. I love the way you guys present material in a way that anyone can understand and absorb the material which makes me wonder. Did you or your brother ever think of becoming a school teacher? If so or not why?
Thank yyo so much for adding closed caption
6:55 This particular precipitation reaction is NOT a redox reaction!!
There are NO changes in oxidation states for Ag, Cl, Na, NO3 !!
They recycled that silver mountain illustration from a crash course history on the spanish empire
Thanks mate, this was really helpful.
Eh,I miss chemistry, haven't studied it for the past 2 years. This course helps me refresh my memory!!
Wait did you really say, "What is this white stuff"?
Must be milk. *"Milk"*
yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
things i
I agree, he's speaking quite clearly. Yes the video is a little fast paced but then again it is a UA-cam video so it's pretty easy to pause and rewind if you don't understand something he just said. All in all I find these videos pretty darn interesting. :)
Thank you for making this video, Kim Krieger, John Green, Heiko Lagner and all the others at _Crash Course_ Chemistry! I actually think this information is going to help me on my next chemistry exam, in 2 weeks. Unfortunatly, we have not been taught atomic masses, moles or molar masses yet so I am afraid that I will not be given any values to count with. Anyway, thank you!
Also, why didn’t you write your script yourself this time, John? Why did Kim Krieger have to write it for you?
some nintendo references in this video
4:30 THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID XDDDDD
These videos are so helpful!
I'm loving the blobified elements.
