Before this, I had only listened to The Bee from this album. Now, I think I`m gonna have to buy the vinyl. This is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for introducing this to me.
Amorphis, nice! They're one of my favourite bands. They're just consistently good (except for a small lull in the late 00s) I've actually known them since the mid-90s ("Tales from a Thousand Lakes" and "Elegy" era) but then they drifted out of my sight. I got back with "Circle". Ever since then, they've been on a winning streak: Circle, Red Cloud, Queen of Time, Halo, all just full of atraight bangers which you absolutely gonna love, Jim.
Glad you're enjoying it, Jim! I agree they don't sound like Opeth at all, they've both forged their own styles, and both have evolved over time. Just thought they deserved to be in the discussion if we're talking prog metal. 😁
Yeah Amorphis rules Jim. They take that Ne Obliviscaris/Opeth like trope of harsh v smooth vocals (or beauty and the beast) and condense the art form into power meets thrash meets symphonic metal songs that are so well crafted. 8 albums in and very few albums disappoint. In fact I think they keep getting better even they are so many albums in. Top Amorphis for me at mo... 7 Circle 6 Skyforger 5 Tales From The Thousand Lakes 4 Halo 3 Queen of Time 2 Elegy 1 Under The Red Cloud Superb band.🤘👨🎤 Next on my list to discover is... Eclipse. So many more to go....
I bought there 2nd album "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" way back in 94 (me thinks). That album has strong Maiden/Paradise Lost influences with the guitar play style .. completely different sounding band to their current day releases. Even though i prefer the older albums i think their changes in direction was the right choices for them, and together creatively they are absolutely superb. Mostly consistant in their releases & rarely a bad album by these guys. Enjoy the Amorphis journey Jim👌
I'm in no way expert in music, but I think that you would appreciate their acoustic Genelec artist room -session. The sound quality is excellent and you get to see them playing "live". I would recommend their classic tune My Kantele. It's quite different from the style of The Queen of Time, but one of the most loved songs from their earlier albums.
Nice beginning : you play as intro the song, that was supposed to be on my upcoming Finnland mixtape, but when you announced the whole album, I changed to a song of the album before. Message in amber is the best among lots of great songs ... let's listen together ... maybe there'll be some new impressions for me 😆 as I sometimes do my little notes so that I can find certain songs easier on a CD as it's getting harder and harder remembering the titles - as we did, when we were young 😏 - I realize during listening, that my personal ranking hasn't changed. the opener is a real good song, track #2 my favourite, but in track #3 I don't like the growling, it's not as deep as in the songs before but rather harsh ... what I don't like too much After Opeth and Jinjer Amorphis became the 3rd band, where I can really stand listening to a bunch of songs with growling 🤘
I think the harsher vocal is intentional, since it's meant to be the words of the Daughter of Hate herself. Of course, that doesn't change whether you like the sound or not. 😁 Heart of the Giant is probably my favorite, followed by Daughter.
My friend, if you haven't already, give Leprous a shot. Their vocals are incredibly expressive, and the harshes are very few and far between. Just enough to make you understand the importance of that contrast in tonality.
Hi Jim, I thought my memorie was bad😂. Don’t worry, I can’t remember anything about them either. It starts with great music but then that bloody growling starts and I’m going to quit. Not for me this band.
If you do want to hear a bit more, go to the Part 2 video Jim posted. The second song starts at 8:32 and only has a few seconds of growling at the very end.
I really didn't like this and I wasn't sure why for a while, but I think in the end it's just -too- polished and produced to my ears. Or maybe it's something else I can't put my finger on.
What a great band Amorphis is, really melodic and heavy. Really underrated as well
Great band and a great album. I’d also recommend the album before this one Under The Red Cloud.
Nice! I'm really glad you found Amorphis, and especially this album. They should be more renowned.🤟😊
Before this, I had only listened to The Bee from this album. Now, I think I`m gonna have to buy the vinyl. This is absolutely fantastic.
Thank you for introducing this to me.
Thanks Jim. The clean vocals and the growling both are well pleasing to the ear.

I know them since the early 90s, i also simply left them go after elegy, the next album was lame.. Im glad they went back to do heavier stuff...
I am a fan since the mid 90s too and love every album honestly 😅😅
They are from Finland 🇫🇮 and they put up a great live show !
Amorphis is in a league of thier own. Absolutely amazing production and performance. I'm stoked you hit this!
So underrated, they are a superb band.
Glad you're enjoying it, Jim!

Amazing request - thank you so much! I am really enjoying this one so far!
Gonna see them live tomorrow!

My Kantele (Acoustic Reprise) is one of my fave songs of all time
Such an awesome album!
Give a listen to “Live with friends at Huvila” album. Bit more stripped back and brings out the gorgeousness of the songs even more. Stunning :)
Superb live album. I was on that gig, too bad that the mixing was horrible live.
Tuonela is the best album of them

Listen to (Silent Waters) Full Album. Trust Me. It's Fantastic.
I love that album too. That was my entry for the band that has been a sleeper for some time until nowadays

I did appreciate the sax, however!
