Why do you never age Ben? Lovely playing as always. Particularly beautiful registrations. I think the use of a solo stop for the chorale melody in the third variation was judicious. Here in Norway we often have a strong flute on one manual and a weak flute on another, but even then following Mendelssohn’s direction to use 8’ flutes on both manuals makes the chorale melody quite obscure. I’m also baffled by minim = 96 for the fourth variation (especially for writing which is quite unidiomatic for the organ with pianistic rangy arpeggios that are a nightmare to execute cleanly on the organ, and) so I was encouraged to hear you took it slower. Not sure I’ve ever heard anyone play it at minim=96 even in a dry acoustic.
