One neat little fact I was told about the lacing system is the laces themselves are lined with a Kevlar weave for added toughness. I thought that was pretty neat.
Luke, Those look like nice shoes. Not sure I like the lacing system. Do you have an overall recommendation for WInter Boots? I'm going to need to purchase some for the upcoming winter here in Minnesota.
Hey Luke, just want to point out, the reason the drain holes are on one side, is so in a similar fashion to the Vietnam jungle boot, you can walk out the water. If a jungle boot gets flooded you simply need to stand on your toes and stand up and down.
Salomon definitely makes some good shoes/boots. Personally, my daily’s are the X Ultra Mid Gore-Tex. But, when it comes to grip; Danners with Oil and Water Slip-Resistance are phenomenal. A little on the heavy side, but they make short work of mud and slippery river rocks.
Good one brother. I'm a fan of Salomon footwear. The Ultra X shoes are one of the most comfortable shoes I've owned and the lacing system is very smart. I like it. Also have boots by them that are very comfortable if a bit weighty. I really like the burrow brown solid colour. It looks good. Earthy. Great video as always Luke! Be well Craig
I just demo' some salamon running shoes and all of their shoes seem to use the cinch lace now. I actually like them a lot now and feel like they provide a nice sock-like fit quickly over traditional laces that need to be tightened individually at each loop.
Just got mine in tonight. They feel tight to the point where they're cutting off circulation. I'm normally a 10.5 size which is what I bought so length wise they're perfect but the tightness in the width of the shoe is rough. Did you experience the same issue? Hoping I just need to break these in a bit. Edit: Just noticed you mentioned the answer around 6:20 in. Also just noticed mine do not have the two drainage vents on the side of the shoe
I do like the looks of those and man the weight is the same as my trail runners. How is the comfort in the sole when walking over roots , rocks, etc ? is it about the same as a trail runner or is the shank more substantial ? Thanks for sharing !
I have found with salmon shoes. You differently don't need a break in like leather boots.. but the laces and textiles do need a :break in" to settle. After while they wont loosen up when then outer martial wares in from use.
glad you also don't like wearing Logo's . I refuse to being a walking billboard unless I am paid for the advertising. Great video like all your other videos
Yes I understand that but I was talking about being able to have that quick-lace on any other shoe you want. I got them for several other shoes and they work pretty well on most.
Andrew Stavola They're about the same, as far as build and design. They both have the same lace system, and build. The XA Mid GTX comes in 3 colors, and the regular XA Mid only comes in two. If you're a first responder, honorably discharged veteran, or currently serving military; U.S. Elite gives discounts on all gear.
Nice but not as good as my Lowa Renegade GTX boots. The lacing system is good though as I have it on my Dachstein Yukon Snow boots and they are so quick to put on. Also my Adidas Terrex Fast R boots have a similar lacing system and give ultimate grip on wet rock but are blue, so not very tactical. Love your work, tanks.
Would´ve been good to see you actually wearing the shoes to see how they look when worn... But still nice Review and thanks for all of your quallity videos :)
I just bought a pair of the Salomon XA Mid GTX, and was very disappointed to see they're made in Vietnam. Worse still, my Salomon Quest 4D GTX boots were made by the ChiComs. So, buyer beware on that score as regards the Salomons, nowadays. That said, alot of badass military guys and military contractors are still using the Salomons, and U.S. Army Rangers, I believe are even issued the Salomon 4D Quest, now.
One neat little fact I was told about the lacing system is the laces themselves are lined with a Kevlar weave for added toughness. I thought that was pretty neat.
Shoe looks good, at least there's no crazy colors or stupid graphics on it. I like leather with composite toe myself though.
My favorite shoes/ boots. I found that if you purchase 2 sizes larger the salomon brand fits better.
The quick on/off feature would be great for multiple water crossings-
kind of like Velcro shoes for grownups.
They look like a modernised version of the lightweight, rubber soled shoes the British commandos got in WW2.
got em, love em - and they are good as a backup pair of boots in your rucksack - lightweight and dry quick
Luke,
Those look like nice shoes. Not sure I like the lacing system.

They have the black version now, just bought it today. Love it, very light.
those would be great for travelling in Japan, always taking off shoes there

Great video as always Luke!
Be well

I need a pair of boots to have ready for a end of the world type of situation. Any recommendations?
Youre lookin at em right now.
Anything by Salomon or danner
Salomon X Ultra 3?
Love the laces and shoe so far. Hopefully I want slide around in them
It looks a pretty good deal!
Thanks for putting it up and sharing your experiences.
That was such a excellent review, I'm flabbergasted. Thank you Luke.
I just demo' some salamon running shoes and all of their shoes seem to use the cinch lace now. I actually like them a lot now and feel like they provide a nice sock-like fit quickly over traditional laces that need to be tightened individually at each loop.
Josh Patrick I had a pair of Salomon boots that didn’t have the quick lace and they kept coming untie. Bought the Forces XA pro and they were great.
I have 3 pairs of Solomons and like them all. A bit on the expensive side but so far worth it.
The laces are just like their Speed Cross 3s! Solomon's newest trailrunners!

Hi Nick. Got the same problem with tightness in the width. On the lenght perfect. Something better after start wearing?
Great review as always Luke, they look great quality boots all the best. Feth uk
Good looking boot, nice and light. For $120 I may need to get a pair, thanks for the review.
Their shoes are the most comfortable ones I've ever worn, wear them as house shoes (loafers).
Durability? Particularly for fast rope?
I like them, I hate things around my ankle really. what size toebox might they be, they look pretty wide though you said narrow.
How do you think these would work as hiking/hunting shoes?
I do like the looks of those and man the weight is the same as my trail runners. How is the comfort in the sole when walking over roots , rocks, etc ? is it about the same as a trail runner or is the shank more substantial ? Thanks for sharing !
Great video, exactly what i was looking for when i heard about these shoes. Does sand or dirt get in easily through the drainage holes?
Great review!
Do they even come in women's sizes?
One problem I have had is that the laces come loose just a little when I'm really getting it!
I have found with salmon shoes. You differently don't need a break in like leather boots.. but the laces and textiles do need a :break in" to settle. After while they wont loosen up when then outer martial wares in from use.
I've had them for quite some time and used them a lot!
I like them. the definitely look like they have more support than the speed cross 3. I think I have found my next purchase.
hey man i cross train swimming and running you think these would be good for that?
glad you also don't like wearing Logo's . I refuse to being a walking billboard unless I am paid for the advertising. Great video like all your other videos
Those laces are sold separately and can be used on anything less than a full boot.
Jason Aguirre those laces come standard on those boots
Yes I understand that but I was talking about being able to have that quick-lace on any other shoe you want. I got them for several other shoes and they work pretty well on most.
Great review, thank you
Where are they made?
How long its takes to completely dry?
Would you recommend these over the Salomon XA Forces ?
Andrew Stavola They're about the same, as far as build and design. They both have the same lace system, and build. The XA Mid GTX comes in 3 colors, and the regular XA Mid only comes in two. How do the soles hold up to stepping on sharp stone?
It does come in black also.
How would you compare it to your favorite hiking boots? Have you ever had a pair of shoes with "BOA" Luke?
Nice but not as good as my Lowa Renegade GTX boots. The lacing system is good though as I have it on my Dachstein Yukon Snow boots and they are so quick to put on. Also my Adidas Terrex Fast R boots have a similar lacing system and give ultimate grip on wet rock but are blue, so not very tactical.

Any updates?
i like different, I am a tactical fireman though. Go figure!!
Would´ve been good to see you actually wearing the shoes to see how they look when worn...
But still nice Review and thanks for all of your quallity videos :)
Check out the Bear Wallow Mountain Day Hike video. - Luke
TheOutdoorGearReview Oh, thanks :)
TheOutdoorGearReview
Not a lot of Jumping Chollas out your way, I take it?
third to comment.
those shoes remind me of my snowboarding boots, except a lot lighter and with a lot more traction surfacing
It gives me a more fornicating feel of confidence.
Check out the speedcross 4. I have 6 pairs of salomon shoes, they are the best.
how do they compare to the speedcross 3?
Light & Shadow same materials more comfortable and better sole design and grip

The ligther the better
Luke i think they are inspired by basketball shoe designs, that's why they look a little different
Obviously the "speed" description is an oxymoron.
What does it even mean for shoes to be "tactical"?
Tracy Reed that they are tactical....
That they’re the equivalent to organic, gluten free, artisanal to an overly aggressive white dad

Salomon makes good boots but most of them are ugly. They all look like Donald Duck feet
